Don't understand the mid series retirement. Screams a bit "me me me".
Nah, seems the best time to retire if he knows he isn't getting picked for the last 2 tests. Series is alive and anything can happen.

“I got to know about it (Ashwin’s retirement) at Perth but I somehow convinced him to be there for the Pink-ball Test” - Rohit Sharma

I guess then he wanted to retire after NZ but that would have been confusing in the moment since we got thumped 3-0. Fair play. Great player.

Also - good on him for retiring as soon as he felt he was done, and didn't wait for a farewell test at home to do it.

Probably.got told he isn't playing in Sydney or Melbourne.

Gambhir and Sharma are a crap team tbh. Both should be sacked. Gambhir is an arrogant cnut who has accomplished nothing

Just hearing the news about Ashwin. Mixed feelings as England won’t have to face him no more, but shame I won’t see him play test cricket again. Great cricketer, all facits of the game really, and one of the all time great spinners of any era.

Felt like an important slight change of momentum for India that final day.

Will tune in properly for the boxing day test now England's glorious, faultless victory over NZ is over.

Not sure, I think Australia were trying to add runs quickly to give them a chance of any victory so they were a bit reckless. Obviously India took advantage. No doubt India will take more out of this test having salvaged a draw. I think Australia have more in form players such as Head at the moment. India's batsmen aside from Rahul are struggling.

Mcsweeney 4 off 25
Labu 1 off 8
Marsh 2 off 13

If Cummins had not smacked 20 at the end they'd barely have been going at 4s!

Not claiming Australia still aren't favourites - just defo a little momentum shift after about 7 straight days of Aus on top

Just listening to Grade Cricketer and they have a funny take on it - same vibe.

WTC spoken about far more in last three months than in previous three years it feels like.

This rounds close fight has finally created some interest outside of the final itself.

Hope England take it seriously next time.
Yes, agreed. They probably need to create a 3 match finals, home-away-home for #1. Would be fun.

Haven't seen much of this series so maybe McSweeney has looked out of his depth but it seems harsh to toss him aside 3 games into a role he's not used to when you have Khawaja and Labuschagne averaging just over 20 across the whole year.

Yea - I think Michael Clarke made the point that Khawaja should've been getting the axe given he's 38. I think that is a very valid point.

Pak really became a good team or SA just going through a transition? SA lost the series at home, Tests might be interesting.

RE 4th test, Gill needs to come good this series, he’s been struggling for over a year against good attack. Sharma and Kohli should count this as their last hurrah. And Siraj should be dropped.

before India toured England in 2021, someone in this thread bet me that Gill would average sub 30, and I took them up on the bet. Luckily for me(in hindsight), Gill got injured and didn't play the series

Pakistan has always been a dangerous white ball team, though we clean sweep the T20’s didn’t we? But yeah, we’re (SA) not exactly vintage SA of a decade or so ago, though still dangerous, as proven by our T20 final appearance (white ball cricket, especially T20 is just so unpredictable isn’t it?). I’d think (maybe hope!) that we’ll take the test match due to our pace bowlers but I guess our cricket team is about as consistent as current day United

This is quite easily the worst SA side I can remember. Credit where to credit is due though, sweeping is an achievement, but I don't think winning the series is as big of a deal as it was in 2013, when we won there for the first time.

Our ODI team has had two impressive results back to back now, winning in Australia and here. The bowling attack seems to be back firing after a horrid world cup.

Tests is a completely different matter though as SA bowlers will be much tougher to face than in white ball. Jansen and Rabada are much better red ball bowlers so they'll definitely be tougher, SA's batting will be the weakness.

Gill dropped, KL will bat at 3 and Sharma back to open. Krishna must have not done good in nets, otherwise hard to explain Siraj.
Aus winning the toss and batting first, looks a good pitch.

Such a funny first session, love Konstas’ attitude, India have let themselves down a little bit approaching him.

Yep! I wonder if this was always his plan, or whether he’d realised he’d have gotten out attempting to play traditional cricket against Bumrah

Dunno, basically a T20 innings in the power play. No idea if this is just how he plays or how he wanted to approach this situation. More impressive thing is how he handled the shithousery from Kohli and Siraj.

India and getting thumped by debutants. a tale as old as time. we suck at dealing with them!

As impressive as Konstas has been, I think Bumrah was quite poor with his lengths when Konstas started to attempt those ramps early on. The ramps that he got boundaries off looked impressive but they were on full deliveries that he could play a normal drive on and get boundaries. All of the boundaries of Bumrah came off full deliveries, including one full toss, which is a massive surprise given how consistent Bumrah has been regarding his line and lengths lately, that was a reason why he has been so deadly as well.

Would be interesting to see Bumrah pitch map today compared to the previous tests. He seemed to start bowling full way to quickly.

India have bowled like crap, not enough deliveries hitting the stumps up front, Konstas seemed susceptible the one that comes back in and they have barely tried any sustained short stuff to him since he’s got his eye in.
