Cricket

First game of the season tomorrow :)
Glad it's back, am sure by the time August/September come back round I'll be glad football is back haha

Failure to take wickets is one thing but basically going at 6 an over against the tail is very poor from our bowlers.

Windies still fighting & made it to 278 before rain came back. Excellent score considering the position they were in.

Amir with his first 5 wicket haul since his return from the ban, bowled very well. Though Gabriel hit a beauty of a drive off him!

Match is going towards a draw probably unless Pakistan can post a lead of 150 and rain stays away for rest of the match. I think Pakistani bowlers were poor over all, not enough deliveries in the right area.

Younis passing 10,000 Test runs - first Pakistani to do so. Fantastic player & a deserved achievement.

Pakistan in a good position. Hope these 2 can push on & get big scores.

No big scores for either of them :(

Tricky period now. Really can't lose another wicket before close.

After Pakistan's performance today I can't really see a way to victory for us in this match unless something very special happens with the bowling tomorrow. I just hope the batsmen in the second innings can manage to play us to a draw, these constant losses are very disheartening, even though i've come to expect them now.

The state of our test cricket sigh.

Misbah bottled the hundred there, he denied a simple third run on 97. Good innings though, can't believe he's still going strong at 43.

We should win this :nervous:

Ffs the actually took lunch

I feel sorry for West Indies

The WICB is destroying cricket in the region; you only need to listen to Darren Sammy's speech after the world cup final to get an idea. The team is suffering, the selections make no sense, it's all a complete mess. It's not nice viewing as a fan, especially when you can actually remember when we used to be good.

Most of the counties vote to introduce a new 8 team city based t20 tournament like the IPL and Big Bash League. This tournament will be played in addition to the County Championship, Royal London Cup and T20 Blast.

So England now will have two domestic t20 tournaments from 2020.

Unnecessary to have 2 tournaments. I actually like the idea to mimic IPL/BB but they should get rid of the Blast.

I think it's going to be a failure.

They're trying to import a model that works in other countries and plonk it down in a country where the sport watching culture is different.

The weekend slots for the Blast were working well, attendance was up, and it was genuinely quite well liked even if it was in a quintessential English cricket sort of way.

There are two issue that it had: lack of FTA exposure and lack of world class players which (it is argued) made it not appeal to the markets that the IPL and Big Bash has.

But I can't really see how they've addressed this issue and why it couldn't have been dealt with through the Blast by simply not selling the rights for it to Sky. I really doubt this 'new market' knows who AB De Villiers is and massively cares if he plays or not.

And to top it all off most of the games will be on Sky anyway!

I cannot see how they can fit two t20 tournaments in a 6 month season from April to September. Might go on into October too.

If they want international players as well, it will be taxing to for the players to fit this into their playing schedules. But 15 of the 18 first class counties voted in favour of it, with Kent voting against and two counties abstaining.

Wrong way round. Kent abstained and Essex and Middlesex voted against.

I'm amazed Essex were the only non-Test venue county (although I guess you can include Middlesex as they don't own Lords) to vote against. This proposal has the very real risk of killing counties like Durham, Northants, Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Glos, Derbyshire and so on.

What the heck is happening with the baord? Their PM is able to speak to the team but not the board? Why doesn't the govt intervene?

Dave Cameron is a trainwreck of a president, and he runs unopposed for the position. Too many people in the board pulling in their own direction, trying to select players from their own countries instead of players who actually deserve it. No idea why the government doesn't intervene or even if they can, but something needs to be done. West Indies is one of the greatest names in cricket, to be fading into oblivion like this is depressing.

The world cup win last year was great, but that was more or less the last hurrah of the Gayle, Badree, Sammy era. The current players don't have much on the generations gone by, in more or less all formats of the game and the leadership and organization being displayed by the WICB isn't helping at all.

Are there many players who bowl and bat with different hands? James Faulkner bats right handed but bowls with his left hand. His bowling action is a bit unusual to look at, with his follow through bringing his arms quite low. But he's a good bowler and bowls the slow ball well. Destructive batsman as well.

Interesting how cricketers can bat and bowl with different hands. Some bowlers can bowl right and left handed and sometimes switch in matches or in the same over. They have to inform the umpire before doing so.

Anderson, Broad, Michael Clarke, Zaheer, Faulkner, Ganguly, Stokes, .. I think England test team once had 5 (?) players who all used different hands to bat and bowl.

Are they really using different hands though? If you're bowling right handed and batting with a 'right hand' stance, are you really batting with your dominant hand? Not in my opinion. To maximise your full potential you should be using a stance where your strongest hand is the top hand. So these guys who you say are using different hands are in fact making full use of their dominant hand with both bat and ball.

It's very hard to bat with your dominant hand as the top hand. Will you be able to get enough power on the ball? Also, creating space for yourself will be an issue. I think these people who bowl right handed but bat with a left hand stance are actually using their left hand more whilst batting (which might or might not be their dominant hand).

It really isn't, it's just a matter of what you're used to.

In fact, it's probably easier: http://www.cricket.com.au/news/righ...ara-anglia-ruskin-university-study/2016-03-24

On the subject, tymal Mills bowls with his left and throws with his right. I remember Samit Patel doing that. Cannot be a lot of others who did that?

Must be loads of them. Ganguly is a good example. Finch in this game as well.

Ganguly bats left only because his older brother was a left handed batsman and they had only one kit.

More fascinated by guys like Sachin and Watson who are left handed (writing) but are right handed in cricket (bat and bowl)

Shadab getting his Test debut. Will be keen to see how he does in this format & how we play with the 2 spinners.

Nice catch by Younis. Pakistan in a good position having taken 5 wickets on a pitch which looks more like one you'd find in the sub-continent.

Terrific fight back by the Windies. Both batsmen looking comfortable on a flat pitch, Chase has played some glorious shots. Should be looking to get 400+.

Pakistan's bowling to these 2 has been a bit disappointing. Some glimpses of quality but no sustained pressure & a lack of accuracy on lengths. Shadab showing he can be a very good spinner when he gets it right but he will have to be managed well & the PCB will have to show patience with him (which they won't).

Said it before, we could really use an all-rounder in this side.

2 excellent sessions for Pakistan today. Shahzad with a couple of lucky breaks but otherwise a solid start from the openers. Should look to push on in the final session. Windies badly need to break this partnership.

Misbah again falls short of the century :(
