Cricket

Looks as big a problem with CSA being broke.

Abbott, I read, is signing at Hampshire for 100K a year. That's peanuts.

He should be earning that much even as a domestic player.

It's guaranteed though. He could probably earn more playing for South Africa, but he's worried (with reason) that he'll lose his place and make less, I think.

Certainly, I think it will be a relief knowing that you have a guaranteed spot if you're playing well and that you won't lose it to a worse performing player because of the colour of your skin.

Why would someone in Rossouw's position sign a Kolpak contract?

Understand the whole quota thing is there but he's the next cab off the rank, 27 and can play all 3 formats..

The chances of him getting in is pretty high despite the quota..

Am I right in thinking the Kolpak rule is directly linked to the freedom of people from EU countries to work in the UK? If so, are these two using their opportunity whilst they still can?

Yes. The window closes with Brexit.

Pakistan capitulated again in Sydney. Four test wins in a row now for Australia after they had a disastrous start to the summer vs South Africa. Four test wins in a row could become four straight losses if they're not on their game in India. Darren Lehmann suggested Matt Renshaw might be dropped for India on ABC Grandstand today which is bonkers.

It's a real shame. SA have lost Jacques Rudolph, Andre Nell, Trott, KP, Abbott, Russouw and so many others due to their internal problems with quotas and what not. Cricket has so few teams and if some of the best players decide to leave international cricket for the county first class and limited overs circuit, it reflects badly on the game as a whole.

Riley Russouw i think is a bit unpopular among CSA members and SA players. he once tweeted something about choking when SA lost in QF in 2011. Since then there have been multiple instances of players refusing to shake his hand. Of course he did get into the team, but he was always a last resort player because of this.

Pakistan do well at losing games they really should win. In today's 50 over cricket, 269 is far from insurmountable, a total teams should be able to chase down if they're able to bat 45 overs let alone 50.

Easy win for Australia after setting a highly chase able total. For Pakistan, they had AUS 78/5, yet still conceded 268 runs. That can't happen in Melbourne on Sunday if they're to win game two.

Good to see Junaid Khan back.

Babar needs 81 runs in this innings to become the fastest to 1k ODI runs.

Australia are now 2-1 up in the series vs Pakistan after chasing down 264 with 7 wickets and 5 overs to spare. Pakistan in truth, were at least 30 short and learnt a damn good lesson about bowling no balls and how costly they can be. Australia played well with bat and ball. Wade missed a couple of opportunities that better not happen in India.

79 Innings taken by Steven Smith to score 3000 ODI runs. He is the fastest Australian to this feat overtaking George Bailey and Micheal Bevan, who got there in 80 innings.

Smith just keeps breaking records

This didn't get any attention in the Celebrity Dead Pool thread, so I thought I'd drop it in here aswell.
A long way before my time but often heard her praised, previously, by those involved with women's cricket.

Clearly, was held in high regard for her work with Wolves, as well.

Don't get why Zampa isn't playing every limited over game. Match winner with the ball.

Good last 10 overs by pak though. 277/0 in 40 overs and anything less than 400 from there is job well done.

Australia is in massive trouble in the first Chappell Hadlee game at Eden Park chasing 287. Flat track bully accusations will come thick and fast if nothing changes. No Smith, Warner and Wade who suffered an injury this morning but that's no excuse.

Doubt i will see a better all round ODI performace for quite a while.

Never thought that Stoinis could do that

Amazing match for Stoinis! Unbelievable. Deserved to be on winning side.
