Cricket

Yep. Cricket is a batsman's game
The only recent change that helped bowlers was the OD of using two new balls, one from each end

Did it really though? Harder ball travels faster off the bat, eliminated reverse swing, wrist spinners prefer an older ball etc.

Suppose - helped new ball bowlers i guess, but then the way they bat now they quickly destroy those balls, too much power

They probably need to do something about bat technology, some of these bats now you barely have to time them and they fly. One of our lads has a few top quality bats, paid big money for them and they are something else, so light but as thick as a house and the middle on them, the sweet spot is huge, it's almost like cheating

What are some of cricket's great bowling pairs?

Broad and Anderson will be remembered as one.

Waqar and Wasim.. McGrath and Warne..

Australia Squad

David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith, Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, Matthew Wade (wk), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, Chadd Sayers.

I thought Maddinson is a good talent? Knew Handscomb would be in the squad after double hundred the other day.
He is but he is very inconsistent Patterson would have been a better choice or even picking Joe Burns as a middle order batsman too

With his 20th and 21st five-wicket hauls in 39 tests, Ashwin has crossed Allan Donald and Daniel Vettori (both 20) and now equaled Jimmy Anderson and Clarrie Grimmett. Next up on 22: fast bowling legends Waqar Younis, Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh.

8 wickets in his 41st test with a first innings five-wicket haul equaling the above legends. Next up on 23: Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Dennis Lillee.

The South African security dude had an altercation with a tv reporter from channel 9 at Adelaide airport. Peter Lalor, from the Australian newspaper, has put on his Twitter account the two statements made form South Africa about the altercation at Adelaide airport. I'd like to know how the reporter from channel 9 would have treated an Australian under the same circumstance.

I feel preparation makes a big difference and that lack of preparation is the main reason why all teams are awful travellers these days. I don't think it is a coincidence that Pakistan won the first test in England after arriving an entire month before the test, but that they are struggling big time in NZ with zero preparation arriving straight from a test on a dead wicket.

I know it's hard to make full preparations these days with busy schedules etc. but ideally all away teams should be playing two proper first class games against decent opposition to acclimatize to the conditions.
Absolutely.

Faf Du Plessis's hearing started this afternoon Adelaide time. I'd give him a substantial fine - at least 50% of his match fee if found guilty. I wouldn't regard what he did as ball tampering but the ICC makes rules that are different to mine. Biting the ball like Afridi or picking at the seam would constitute ball tampering for me, not what du Plessis did. Hearing David Warner take the moral high ground about on field behaviour at his press conference saying Australian cricketers would never do what Du Plessis is alleged to have done was funny.

Faf Du Plessis has been fined of 100% of his match fee and be free to play in Adelaide.

My TV crush has the following:

Faf du Plessis to appeal the guilty verdict. I'm told that is likely to be heard after the Adelaide Test.

This is beginning to drag on a bit, whats the point of appealing? I am a South African I think he's clearly guilty. he should just accept his punishment, be grateful that he can play on Thursday and get this whole episode behind him

I don't regard what he did as ball tampering but the ICC have different definitions of it than me and that's what counts. It's been fascinating seeing this saga unfold and made the build up to a dead rubber more entertaining.

There has been a lot of intensity from both sides in the buildup to this game, don't think either side consider it a dead rubber

Jimmy Neesham's payouts on the channel 9 commentary team last summer were brilliant and so truthful. Shame he won't be in AUS for the Pakistan series as he won't have access to the abomination that will be triple m radio's cricket coverage. He'll have a field day with bogan, crap, unfunny, dribble that they will produce as cricket coverage and commentary.

Triple M will have roy and hg on so at least that will good to listen too.

But i cant see how Triple M will work its style for tests and one dayers.

Only Neroli Meadows and Kerry O'Keefe would be worth listening to on triple m. If the former is still going to be part of the ABC coverage as well as triple m, I'll have no reason to give the ABC the flick.

Anyone following the Wi-Zim-SL series? After choking against Zimbabwe and getting a tie, WI lose to SL by one run. They were chasing 330. Horrible run outs in the WI team hampered the chase. They should've won this.

Strange to see a first day declaration when the score is only around 250!

Not watching but probably because they wanted to have a proper go at the Australian top order with the swinging ball under lights.

Yeah that was the reason. Alongside Shamsi being absolutely hopeless and it being only a matter of time until he got out or injured.

Pitch wasn't doing much mind.

Faf overheard the umpire talking to Smith and telling him that Warner can't bat for another 6 minutes due to him being off the field for a too long (shoulder issue).

As Faf said, once he heard that he thought it was time to 'have a crack.'

Amir is such an unlucky bowler. Never gets any support from the slip fielders.

Edit: Slip fielder actually caught one as I wrote that

Amir is fantastic. As @Samid said, he deserves better fielders.

Rain coming at a good time as Kiwis were starting to build some momentum. If they get 200+, we'll struggle in these conditions.

Faf was splendid yesterday. Some of those cover drives and straight drives... Oof.

On a side note, Channel 9 commentators are terrible. No one wants to hear your stupid jokes about each other you fools. Just talk about the game. These guys make Sanjay Manjrekar look fantastic.

ABC radio has been a blessing. Channel 9 dumbs down their coverage to cater for the lowest common denominator. Sadly, a radio station that's does just that will join the cricket broadcasting fold soon. Of the channel 9 crew, only Ian Chappell is worth listening to in my view at the moment, until Bill Lawry joins them for the tests in Melbourne and Sydney.

Looking forward to Lawry and Chappel's commentary. The other guys are really bad. Didn't check who they were but I remember hearing "Slats", "Tubs", and some other silly names like that.

How can I listen to ABC Radio. I don't live in Australia.
