Cricket

Expecting De Kock to score a lot on this pitch. His type of pitch.

What a win by the West Indies against Pakistan, great result.

I think it's good for cricket that they've won. First win away from home and excluding Bangladesh since 2007. Shows that the cricketers that have stuck around and still play Test cricket have a bit of grit about them after all. Braithwaite looks a good player and still only 23. They've still lost the series but great result today.

Chase looks a great talent. Played really well against India as well. I hope that they really come good and are a force in Test Cricket again.

That Neville decision was terrible, I also think the Smith dismissal was bs as well. But whatever, we should hopefully take the lead here.

Watching it live, I gave Smith out so I'm not going to criticise the umpire for that call. Nevill shouldn't have been given out but that's what happens when you've lost both reviews. Shaun Marsh wasted a review, absolutely wasted one. Still fancy Australia given Steyn won't bowl in the second innings.

Stupid BT taking the rights to Aussie cricket. Now SSN won't even acknowledge there's a series going on because Sky don't have the rights. Wankers the lot of them.

Typical of the Aussie batting lineup these days, all sizzle and no steak. No idea how Mitch Marsh still gets in the team. Smith decision was stiff but ultimately was vindicated by the DRS. Expecting the ball and pitch to do nothing at all for the next day and a half, before Warner falls cheaply and another train wreck ensues. Similarities in performance and personality between us and United at the moment are remarkably close.

I wonder if folks will complain about the pitch if the Aus-SA match ends in 3-4 days.....

Outstanding from SA. Rabada brilliant.

That run out from Bevuma is the best runout I have seen, bar none.

South Africa were 4 down in Adelaide four years ago at the end of day four and hung on for a draw. Feels i'm like clutching at straws hoping AUS can do the same here..

Quite a bad loss considering the position Australia was in during the first innings.

Also for the aussies do you think the david warner oled tv ad has been on a shitload during this match?

What a performance this. They lost Steyn on first day too!

Aussies's batting is a joke.

Shaun Marsh will miss the second test with a broken finger

Joe Burns and Callum Ferguson come into the squad with and impressive return of 0.4.7 in the Sheffield shield over the weekend

First time Australia has lost the first test of the summer since 1988. First time Australia has lost four consecutive test matches since 2013 when they lost six straight - four vs India, first two vs England. Just two of the negative records they've set in this match. Australia hasn't lost at the Gabba since 1988, it's almost always the venue for the first test of every Australian summer and it a fortress. Always worried it would be a mistake playing the first test in Perth - South Africa haven't lost a test vs AUS there - 3 consecutive wins, one draw from four matches.

Well done SA, they came back into the game containing Aussies in the first innings which was crucial in my eyes.
Any idea on who will replace Steyn in second test?

It'll be Morne Morkel or Kyle Abbott, most likely Morne Morkel.

Rabada looks be quite a talent for South Africa.

I remember seeing him in an ODI series against India (I think) and couldn't really see what the fuss was about, looked sharp but like he lacked control and was expensive.

And then I saw him in the test series against England a few months later and jesus I got it.

Still has a lot to learn in LO cricket I think, but as a test match player he's already great.

Its his ability to bowl long spells pounding away at the right areas at 145+ that I think is most impressive. Just never seems to tire.

These days its hard to find bowlers who can bowl with consistence line and length.

Australia are in a pile of shit at the moment. Philander off injured after an accidental collision with Steve Smtih.
