Cricket

Oops, I forgot format :) Meant tests, but can ask for all.

Depends where they are playing.

Well, I did ask where. Let's just say...

3 Tests
3 ODIs
3 T20s

One in England, one in the subcontinent, and one down under.

(I just wanna imagine Matthews in a decent team :()

Think Asian team wins comfortably in the sub-continent, Eng/Aus/SA everywhere else.

Lack of spinner hurts Eng/Aus/SA but the batting is absolutely stacked to the point where you have to leave out one of (probably) Root Williamson or Amla and the bowling as well: Steyn, Starc, Anderson, Broad, Rabada, Philander etc... I'd even go as far to say that with the possible exception of Amir the second string Eng/Aus/SA would all play for the other team.

In limited overs you have Tahir coming in to it, and Finch (or De Kock) for Cook at the top of the order.

I'd be interested to see how others saw this, but I think the Eng/Aus/SA is comfortably better.

What would people's teams be in tests

Cook
Warner
Smith
Root
Vogas
AB
Stokes
Broad
Steyn
Anderson
Lyon

Yeah, I think adding SA players to an England/Australia duo just overpowers them a bit. Would be more fair if it was Aus/Eng/WI versus the rest. ;) (With some sort of rule enforced on how many players should play at minimum from each nation)

Cook
Warner
Amla
Smith
Root
AB
Nevill
Steyn
Broad
Anderson
Lyon

Probably mine, Nevill as the best keeper, but could easily have someone else if you want a bit more batting. Would like an allrounder, but don't think you can pick Stokes over any of those.

As for the other one, just realised that NZ are included.

Tom Latham
Dunno lol - Dhawan I guess? Hafeez is pretty good except from when the ball swings
Williamson
Younis Khan
Virat Kohli
Misbah
Matthews
Southee
Boult
Shah
Amir

I'm not a huge fan of making Latham keep and would maybe have Shafiq for someone. Bring Ashwin in in Asia. Feck, forgot Vijay. So him to open with Latham.

Latham
Dhawan
Williamson
Younis
Kohli
Shafiq/Rahane
Sarfraz
Ashwin
Yasir
Amir
Boult

Really struggling to find 11 decent players for this team. Would get hammered outside Asia.

You wouldn't pick Angelo Matthews?

Kohli's captaincy is so refreshing to see. Actually backs his fast bowlers and seems to get the best out of Umesh Yadav who's probably our best fast bowler.

Trying out Ashwin as a middle order batsman is also a good plan, he's got the potential to be an all rounder for us and would be great if we can try out the five bowler strategy in matches in SA and England etc.

Australia Sri Lanka match is batshit. 12 wickets fell today and we're not halfway in the second session of first day.

I disagree.

This plan is good only against crap teams on pitches supporting spin. It's not a long term strategy and it is poorly thought out.

Umesh Yadav's a crap bowler as well -- not sure why you'd say hes one of our best. Shami who isn't great is comfortably better than Yadav. Ishant as well is better.

Sri Lanka have set Australia 268 to win. Currently 20/1, time not an issue, could be a very interesting day in Pallekele.

Didn't realise Eurosport 2 were broadcasting this series. Don Voges doesn't remotely look like someone averaging in the 90s.

Also why isn't Adam Zampa playing?

Can someone please explain what the deal with this Voges chap is? Never seen him before but he averages 95 and is 37 yrs old? Why has he just started to play for the NT?

He's just had a great start to his test career with quite a few not outs.

In his first year he made:

269*
130*
106*
83*
51*

+ Australia play 90% of their games on roads and have played mediocre sides since he's been in the team.

I think he averaged under 30 in the Ashes last summer.

One an average, one session has been wiped out each day. Once lights get bad in Sri Lanka around 3-30:30PM local time, it doesn't recover/improve this time of year. Most likely Australia will need to just ensure to be around for 60 overs tomorrow. With a RR of 3, they may even win.

This is great stuff. Smith hasn't a clue which way Sandakan is spinning but doing a good job sticking in.

Herath is amazing. @KM

Also, hard to believe this Sandakan guy is on debut. Fantastic control for a chinaman with with deceptive variations.

why did this guy come out if he cant run? theyve played 10 overs for 4 runs

Should they just have given up?

Their only hope is to play for bad light or rain.

Not necessarily.

If they have faith that Nevil's going to hold one end up, not get out and have faith in O'Keefe blocking, then they could've sent Hazlewood out and seen how many runs trickled.

If Hazlewood's out, O'keefe's anyway going to block the way he is.

Hazlewood could've blocked, played for the rain and still taken runs from the times that the ball goes into the gaps.

30-35 runs would put massive pressure on Sri Lanka.

Hazlewood's not a mug with the bat.

This is still compelling to watch but just not sure they got the order of logic right. Unless they're certain that there's not enough time to get 100 runs and rain is inevitable.

Australia had zero chance at winning as soon as Smith got out.

You didn't even reply to what I said, but ok

I did. Tail enders aren't going to last too long if they do anything but block. I doubt running a few singles would make too much of a difference. He's also likely batting at 11 for a reason.
