Cricket

From India domestic circuit news, Mumbai have won their 41st Ranji title. There have been total 82 seasons till date. Mumbai have reached finals on 45 out of 82 times and won 41 of them, conversion rate of 90%+. Amazing domination which is going on right from first season of Ranji trophy in 1934-35. The 2nd highest title count is 8.

Hoping for a super over.

Edit: Wtf, India's match has already started.

Where's the official T20 WC thread? The first round is quite interesting this time around.

Bangladesh no doubt favourites in Group A, but Ireland & Netherlands aren't pushovers by any means... I've never seen Oman play cricket before. Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan for group B qualifications.

 Big 3. How convenient that his action was illegal for the WT20 and all of a sudden legal two days before the IPL.

I'm fairly certain he removed himself from consideration for selection for the world cup to work on it.

feck him anyway, cnuts made millions cheating at cricket and hiding from testers.

One of them is higher in the test rankings than England.

India were #1 in the test rankings awhile back. Were nowhere close to being the best team in the world. Rankings are an artifact of how your test programme is.. teams move up if they play enough times at home.. rankings are no indication of ability away.

Most teams are mediocre away, almost all teams are mediocre in England. Apart from NZ I think all other current teams would get spanked in England (even SA who look ordinary without Smith/Kallis and Steyn on the decline).

India would make a decent fist of playing in England now I think.

Australia would be good to watch as well.

India have won 1 of their 9 tests in England since 2011. Australia have won 2 of their 10 tests in England since 2013. There is nothing to suggest that these teams would have made a decent fist of it all of a sudden.

Besides India and Australia have had the main tour of England in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015. You can't have the same two teams touring England every year. There are other test nations in the world.

Putting the cutoff at 2011 is irrelevant because none of that team play now. The Indian team toured England last with the same team in 2014 and lost 3-1 but there was some decent watchable cricket and that team's improved now.

I am not saying other teams should not tour England. I don't know what you are arguing against. I am just stating a fact that it's two ordinary teams in England this summer.

I'm not sure about that. Thought you were largely pretty awful Lords test aside and this England team is markedly better than they were then. Think Pakistan will prove a sterner test.

I do not remember the specifics, but post Lord's, I think India just bottled it mentally because the team was inexperienced.

Did alright in SA and NZ despite the results. The bowling has improved a bit as well.

Are England better than that side? I don't know about that. Anderson's faded a bit and swing is India's biggest nemesis.

I wanted to catch one of the first two tests before school starts but can't be arsed as I can't see any of them lasting more than 3 days. If last year's pitches are anything to go by then even making it to day 3 will be an achievement.

Has he? Anderson was wonderful in the UAE, poor and unfit in South Africa, and decent again last summer before getting injured. As long as his wrist still works, he'll trouble batsman in England. More importantly though, he's better supported than he was then. Broad's bowling as well as ever, Finn is back, Wood is looking promising. Stokes is in as a 4th seamer. It's a far better attack than what you faced last time.

You came over at probably English crickets lowest ebb for about ten years, we'd been whitewashed in the Ashes and just lost a two test series to Sri Lanka (who acquitted themselves far better than India did that summer), Root was barely established, Cook had been averaging 30 for the best part of 3 years, Bell was still in the side etc...

I honestly think if you came over now we'd whitewash you, whether depending, you'll do the same to us in India, mind.

Who's going to take James Taylor's place in the England team, will they go back to Jos Buttler?

Reckon this uncontested toss lark will be scraped before the end of the month. Absolute roads up and down the country to the benefit of no one.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has joined Sri Lanka Cricket in agreeing in principle to a proposal from the England & Wales Cricket Board to implement a points system for their tours of England later this summer.

The PCB have given their blessing to the same suggestion that was put to SLC earlier this month, ahead of their own tour of England in May and June. The idea comes in the wake of the successful implementation of a similar system for the last three Women's Ashes contests.

Pakistan are due to play four Tests, five ODIs and a one-off T20I on their two-month tour from July to September, with the suggestion being that four points should be available for each Test victory and two points for the limited-overs contests.

That would tally with the weighting given in last summer's Women's Ashes, which Australia won by 10 points to six.

Initially six points had been on offer for the one-off Test match in the Women's Ashes, but that figure was reduced to four after the 2013-14 series in Australia, in which England retained the Ashes after winning the Perth Test despite losing both of the limited-overs series 2-1.

With a possible 28 points to be made available over the course of the ten fixtures in Pakistan's tour, but with the Tests due to be played first, a 4-0 clean sweep for either team would be enough to secure 16 points and, with it, the series.

The proposal has met with a mixed response from England's cricketers, particularly those who might expect to play a part in all three formats.

"Whatever it is, it's going to make it extremely competitive and it might bring all three formats together a little bit more," said Joe Root during an Investec golf day last week.

However, his team-mate Ben Stokes was less enamoured, particularly by the suggestion that the idea might eventually be rolled out to the men's Ashes.

"I think it would be rubbish," he said. "They've changed a lot of things, but Ashes is Ashes, it's a massive series for England and Australia and I don't see why it should get changed.

"People who watch the game and follow the game, especially in the Ashes, would get a little bit like 'why are we doing this?' and I'd probably be in the same boat."

An ECB spokesman confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that the prospect of a points system was taking shape.

"We have received an agreement in principle from the boards of both Sri Lanka and Pakistan and will release further details of the proposal in due course."

What nonsense. Idiotic way to decide a series winner.

If any one fancies a change from the IPL Sky are broadcasting all 4 days of Notts vs Yorkshire. Tonnes of international players on display.

Mickey Arthur to become Pakistan coach. I expect this to be a disaster.

Does anyone play btw
I've got a lovely farmer's tan from two games this weekend, took 3-19 yesterday

@DiseaseOfTheAge Thoughts on Charlotte Edwards?

Seems a bit mad to me, stripping her of the captaincy is one thing, but the rest of the side can't hold a candle to her as a bat.

Tony Cozier's passed away. Damn. One of my fav things about the WI tours.
