Cricket

Quite astonishing the level of re-jigging Kohli's done to keep Rohit in the team.

Used to be a fan of Rohit, but surely that's that.

fecking Woakes' over costing us. Don't think it would've mattered much, didn't score enough runs.

Willey looks a real talent.

I'm so conflicted who I want to win this.

I thought Lancashire at the start, but I think I'm backing the plucky underdog.

Also Faulkner's finger looked fecking horrific there.

Not the best finals day, thought it was 3 fairly ordinary games. Well done Lancashire.

Surprised we've managed to win this really. Thought we rode our luck a bit to get to finals day, and I wasn't expecting much today. But after last years disappointment this is brilliant.

Well done lads.

India finally win a test series abroad...well our neighbors, but still counts as an away series.

@anver What you think about the current Sri Lankan team? With the big wigs gone, you looked woefully out of depth against a mediocre Indian team. Any new and exciting players coming up? Or is Lankan cricket heading back the pre '96 era?

We've fecking done it!! Finally!
Was trying to explain to the friend I was watching with why even when it looked like we were sure to win I was still stressing. So many bloody finals days that went horribly wrong... Was more relief than joy when we finally won the thing.

Congratulations to India.

I dont think there are any new players in the mill. But, if you see the present team, there are quite a few players, with just four or five test and ODI appearances. I feel the team of the future will revolve round these players. Angelo Matthews is a good leader, and commands a lot of respect from the youngsters. It will take a year or so, and a couple of foreign tours, for the team to settle down.

Good luck to them.

Do you derive any enjoyment from the teams you apparently support?

This Indian team is hardly mediocre.

It depends on what the comparison is, I guess. It's a fair bit worse than Indian teams gone by, I think.

There's a decent argument that everyone but South Africa is a mediocre test team, right now, if we compare standards to the last twenty years or so.

Anyway, impressed with Sharma's figures. Is he finally fulfilling his potential or is this just a rare moment of quality? I don't follow too closely.

We are terrible away from home but I think that stands for literally all the teams right now. Compared to the standards of the past Indian teams maybe(that too in batting, our bowling has been pretty good) but in context of other teams right now. India is clearly not mediocre.

He's been pretty good lately in away test matches.

When you say 'South Africa' do you mean their actual team or their team of 2 years ago? Because the've got as many problems as most other teams now.

They've always lacked a spinner, they've got two very inexperienced openers and lack a quality all rounder.

Yes they've got the highest concentration of world class players -Amla, De Villiers, Du Plessis, Steyn - but they haven't replaced Smith, Kallis or Boucher

And they also hardly ever play.

Pass.

We can wait and see how they get on in India but I suspect it will be better than anyone else would do over there right now.

Dunno, they really don't have a good enough spinner let alone two. Hard to know who would win, but I reckon Nathan Lyon's the best spinner outside the subcontinent at the minute. If you're talking about best side in India in general then I reckon Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar would out bowl anyone in Indian conditions.

Besides, even if South Africa would do better than anyone else I don't think it shows that much more than their just the best of a bad bunch.

Lyon, as far as I can tell, is only good against England. His average is... average.

Best of a bad bunch by a long way, is what I'm suggesting. I still think they'd be up there with any team there has been since the end of that freakishly good Aussie side.

Ravichandran Ashwin says hi.

Just checked Steyn's record in India again. 5 test matches and 26 wickets at an average of 20 runs. Incredible bowler.

Their side 3-4 years ago yeah, but this current iteration I'm not so sure. They'll beat England at home definitely, but they struggled against Bangledesh when they did get to play and can see them struggling in India too.

Also on Lyon, an average of 34 is perfectly good for a classical off spinner. Harbhajan's is only 32 (at a worse strike rate as well) and he bowled in considerably more friendly conditions for most of his career.

He was a bit crap though, after his astonishing burst on the scene.
