Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

The English reaction to the hot spot issue has been quite ironic. All of a sudden, there's English opposition to technology while there's been general mocking and jeering going on in the direction of the Indian team. It's all good taking a stance, but they should stick to it.

In all of the criticism of the review yesterday, it seems to have been 100% implicitly accepted that Laxman actually nicked it. Laxman denies it and I'd believe him. Snicko shows a sound, but only a few frames after the ball passes the bat.

The noise was actually in between frames. I reckon he hit it.

He's got Zaheer in there, can't be on the basis of this tour.

It's of the squads on this tour what would your combined team be - it doesn't have to be based on their performances on this tour only. Otherwise Tendulkar wouldn't be in there.

Maybe. But the thing is, Laxman immediately denied hitting it right when Strauss reviewed it and you never see players doing that after hot spot's implementation because they start looking like idiots. Unless Laxman did have vaseline on his bat.. Broad checked and made sure though, the tit..

Yeh, but the Indian view on the technology is retarded

Hawkeye is more accurate than Hotspot, yet India oppose Hawkeye

Nobody is denying that. But Hotspot has always been used, so why suddenly question it's reliability when one decision has gone against. Sounds like sour grapes.

Do you not think something has happened though
When it first came around, it was seemingly the perfect technology, but all of a sudden it seems to be producing more doubts

You do wonder if they've found some kind of get around for it

300

Anything over, we're fecked

In fact, I can't see us chasing even 300 tbf with this batting. Gambhir and Sehwag are huge cogs in this lineup.

The owner of the hotspot himself said that it's only 90-95% reliable even before the series. It was never a perfect technology.

I am assuming they know it's unreliable because Broad's statement was "Hot spot doesn't show all the nicks" sounds like he knows someone who had a nick and got away with it on hot spot.

How're we bowling? I'm not watching now. Finding our bowling a little uninspiring, runs ticking away... will watch a bit later

Lacklustre and bland so far mostly. Pitch seems to have flattened out a bit.

This game was all about the toss
Think England gambled quite a lot on that, I couldn't see them throwing away such an advantage the way India did...they may still go on and win it, but really we should have been looking at India having a much much bigger first innings lead, at least another 50-100 runs

England will get a lead of 350 now.

Great innings by Bell

So much character in this England side, more often than not when they need someone to step and score runs, they do

Take Prior in the last match, and now Bell here

and what should Trott do?

My thoughts exactly
It is quite a luxury to have a player of Bell's quality batting that low, perhaps they could use Pietersen as a lower option and give him the licence Morgan has to score quickly....but perhaps that would be a waste as well

Nothing wrong with the lineup as it is, imo.. great balance

Pietersen gone...things could change very quickly now, we need to maintain focus...

Especially with the new ball not a million miles away

152/3.5 in effect

Very much game on, you've got to think they can score at least another 100 runs, which gives them a chance

Big innings for Morgan, as he's not going to hold onto the place much longer the way he has been going

Morgan seems settled enough, India remind me of England's bowling in the last Ashes series at home.

India need a wicket or two, can't rely on the new ball doing the damage, as otherwise they'll probably be ~250 behind

If I were them I'd gladly take a 250 target at the end of the day. England should be aiming to handover a dozen overs into tomorrow with a lead of 300 to 350.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough

But a lead of ~250 will be the lead when the new ball is given, then they'd still have time to score more runs

If we can get there with wickets in hand, we'll look to build a 400+ lead and bowl at India after lunch tomorrow.

India need someone to bowl a Broad-like spell to prevent that from happening.
