Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

Any of the locals can brief us on the weather for the next 2 days?

England's approach will be interesting. If they play the 2nd innings at the same pace as the first, the game will get away from them. Will Strauss, Cook and Trott play like they're not used to and attack?

There's no need to fully attack, they just need to play a little quicker than the first innings and they should be able to build a healthy lead.

They batted very slowly in the first half of the first innings. If they score at 3 per over, they'll have a lead of 370 or thereabouts which they'll be slightly apprehensive about declaring with, considering what happened in Chennai in 2009. Admittedly, this is not the sub-continent but they'll want to be a touch faster than that.

They'll want 4 sessions to bowl at India.

All depends how much the ball is moving around, no Zaheer will help, but if it's difficult to bat, there is only so much attacking you can do

I think with that batting line-up of India's and the pitch looking decent to bat on now I think a draw would be favourite. But alot will depend on the atmospheric conditions and the Lords pitch does usualy take some decent spin on day 5.

The pitch is still playing relatively flat from what I can see anyway..it's still a bowling wicket. Zaheer is obviously a big blow, but Kumar looks a lively bowler and is swinging the ball dangerously. There's definitely a few more wickets in for him as long as his delivery is consistent and relatively full. England will need to up the RR for the second innings and will need the likes of KP and Trott to really bang home the advantage. Pitch getting beaten up by the last day will favour the batting side but I don't see it as a major issue as of now, since it's still playing relatively true.

So, is anybody still under the illusion that England are shit?

Read the whole thread. Nobody has said that apart from one who was sarcastic. Don't be so bloody precious over things which haven't been said by anyone.

Just when I thought Anderson wasn't having a good match, he takes 5 wickets. Anyways great performance by England though, very professional.

England have been great to watch in recent times, their batting unit has performed under pressure and the bowlers have usually stepped up when they needed to. I've been really impressed by Strauss & Flower and the work-ethic they've introduced and England have improved in all forms of the game as a result, particularly test match cricket.

Will be a huge game for India, cannot afford to go 2-0 down and Zaheer's fitness will be important for their chances.

I don't feel like repeating myself...but England are the best side in world cricket.

I would wait till the series ends to say that.
I am not taking anything away from the fact that England played well and have been doing so for a while now but you have to consider
1) India is missing Sehwag
2) Zaheer only bowled 13 overs
3) Tendulkar was unwell in the 2nd innings
4) Gambhir played with an injury in the 2nd innings
5) England are at home

I thought India was first in ODI's too. When did they drop to second behind Australia?

Beating even the best side at home does not make you that.

Even a mediocre Indian team used to beat the best Aussie side at home.

Come beat us at home, before you want that tag. Dominating a poor Aussie team in Oz does not make you the best side in the world.

Agree. The only thing you can rely on is the test championship ranking at the moment where we are number 1. And world champions in one day cricket. Which would suggest we are the best.

But if you're judging purely on the basis of head to heads (which would be wrong) then you have to take into account both home away and not simply a series at the home of one and not the other. And we're just one fourth into that as well.

India need to drop Tendulkar. I know they want to keep him in for sentimental reasons because of the 'hundredth hundred' and all that rubbish, but seriously, the bloke's a liability now.

Bring Yuvraj in.

Nice one

Anything can happen in the future and someday he will lose his touch and it could be soon but just to show how retarded your 'I know they want to keep him in for sentimental reasons because of the 'hundredth hundred' and all that rubbish, but seriously, the bloke's a liability now.' statement is as things stand,

Year Tests Innings NO Runs Average Highest 100's 50's

2010 14 23 3 1562 78.10 214 5 7

Fantastic last day at lords. Got there at 7am, and the queue's were over a mile long. Took us 3 hours to get in, and their was a real buzz around the place normally reserved for when the Aussies visit,.

As always in England a good attendance from the Indian community.

We were brilliant TBH, even with all your batsmen fit in the first innings we set up the game by bowling you out for less than 300.

India never looked like saving it, even with 5 down at tea, there were still 48 overs left.

Shame Sachin was at the races, would of loved to see him play a cameo atleast.

You can just see it in the way he's playing, he's lost it. I bet he doesn't score any meaningful runs in the series.

This argument again no one can ever give England credit this so called bad Aussie team had just beat South Africa in SA. Oz were looking pretty good before that series, they were at home and England had big injures through out the series but still won. We've only beaten bad teams over the last 2 years now its beating an India side with injures all excuses. England IMO are not the best yet but 2nd beat India home/away then we will be.

Fair enough. In any case you can become the no.1 ranked test team if you best us by a margin of two tests.

I don't know what you really said there because you could do with some punctuations, but yes, England will be the best if they can beat India home and away and do well against SA at home. People are very quick to discount SA in the talk of #1, probably because their media's not as in-your-face as either the Indian one or the English one in cricket, but they're a top side.

They're closer to the #1 than England for me because they do well in the sub-continent. England haven't gotten the chance to show what they can do, but I can't see them doing well because their success has been built largely on their bowling which won't quite work in the sub-continent. Can't see Anderson or Tremlett playing a part here.

Unfortunately, England don't play tests in India for another 16 months, so the situation will be entirely different. India won't be in the race by then.

You let yourself get too easily wound up by Spoony and Mike..

Hawk-eye works very well and it eradicates shocking decisions like the Raina lbw appeal. The ICC needs to man-up and force the DRS system in all games whether the BCCI likes it or not.

Removing the DRS on LBW is a strange one to be honest, does make you wonder what went on behind the scenes.

Anything that improves the quality of decisions is a good thing for any sport.

Not a bad idea, at least he won't bottle it in a 4th innings situation.
