Cricket: ICC World Twenty20 tournament Sept 2007 in South Africa

Why is Joginder in the team? I would play another batsman instead of him and give Sehwag the ball.

In all my time on the Caf I have not read as bigger pessimists as Cold Boy and Zing...Both in the United forum and here when supporting India.

Have faith in your teams.

come on, mate

I said before the tournament started that India would win the cup. I'm just scared of playing Pakistan in the final.

Joginder looks nothing like an international player. I'm sounding negative here, but if Paul Collingwood was Indian, he'd have been selected for the team on the basis of his bowling. Our bowling pool is that bad.

Sreesanth should be dropped but we haven't got any replacements. He's bowling terribly.

And anyone saw that catch by Karthik? *amazing*. And Rohit Sharma's run out of Kemp was awesome, also.

Quite a turn around by India in that group after losing the first game to NZ, who eventually became the team they went through with...

I've updated the first post with the finished groups and results, here are the semi line-ups - on saturday 22nd...

22 - 1st semi-final: New Zealand v Pakistan, Cape Town (1300)

22 - 2nd semi-final: India v Australia, Durban (1700)

They should be tight games really unless Australia play anything like they normally do - they have blown hot and cold so far but demolished Sri Lanka this morning! Never thought India would get this far really so it will be interesting to see what they can do... NZ are a good team and PAK are playing like a good team with the only real problem being the openers - should be a decent match.

I would tip Aus v Pak final but as we have already seen anything can happen in T20 and very quickly at that. (it will probably be a NZ v India final now)

One thing I have noticed is the venues... Do you think playing on the pitch before matters? NZ have yet to play at Cape Town while Pakistan have played there once - their last match. Australia have never played at Durban whilst India have played there 4 times including their last match.

By the way does anybody else find it strange that the final is being held at midday on the Monday!? Surely most people will be at work or whatever at that time... When they were planning it why not have it on the Sunday...

Great game today. Tense stuff. Sreesanth continues to look terrible and RP is getting better by the day, just like I predicted. :)

Wonder who'll get dropped to accommodate Yuvi in the next match.

Yes, ridiculous to have the final on Monday. Someone screwed up with the fixtures.
Aussies will be the favs no doubt but I have a good feeling about this Indian team, they basically are going out there with no pressure in long time. Nobody here expected them to last this long or play that well. Reckon the pressure would be on the Aussies though they are used to such situations.

Anyway seems like I may as well be proven wrong. T20 is being latched up here in India, thought not by fans but the admins who see it as even bigger cash cow than ODIs. India rejecting T20 was the only hope of it dying down. :(

Karthik unless he has to keep, otherwise Uthappa may go.

Is Irfan Pathan the best 20-20 bowler or what??

Good stuff from the boys and with Mr.666666 coming back for the semis we have a good chance of beating the Aussies.

South Africa skipper Graeme Smith insisted the format of the World Twenty20 rather than their reputation as "chokers" was behind their exit.

The hosts went out on net run-rate after losing to India by 37 runs.

"Though we do find ways to get out of these tournaments there's a lot of disappointment knowing you've lost one game in the tournament and you're out.

"It does seem weird but we weren't as clinical with the ball and never really got a hold of the game," Smith said.

Full Story...

Does seem harsh when you look at it like that but that's a quarter-final for you!

You got to feel for South Africa ... But they had no one but themselves to blames yesterday. Besides Boucher and Morkel, none of the batsmen seemed to put up a fight.

Looks like karthik will be the one to get the drop for the semis. Hopefully, we can get him on the field as a sub though. :smirk: He was bloody brilliant in the field yesterday. I hope we have it in us to beat the Aussies, heck, Zimbabwe did it.

Clark's pretty fecking good so far

Vettori also.

Easy victory for Pakistan. Which I think everyone predicted. New Zealand have a thing about losing in semis. . .I wouldn't say they're chokers, just a mediocre team that sometimes plays above it's station. SA on the other hand are chokers. Which always makes me chuckle. Oh and that Umar Gul looks very good indeed. . .although the mullet is so wrong.

As for the next game, tough call. India'll give Australia a good game. The nappy wearning cnuts.

New Zealand 143-8 (20 overs) v Pakistan 147-4 (18.5 overs)

I just watched it and a comfortable victory as spoony said.

NZ started quite well though but then PAK stopped the flow of runs and got the wickets. That's what has got PAK so far in my opinion, the whole of the bowling attack is working as a unit with one being the pick of the bunch from Gul, Asif, or Afridi.

Oh and the openers did brilliantly for PAK getting the runs on board and lasting for a decent amount of time, making it easier for the rest who just had to come in and get a run-a-ball.

Good all round effort, Gul being the pick of the bowlers and Nazir for the batters...

Next game up will be interesting, unless AUS come out and play like we all know they can..

Easy call, though. Next one is tougher.

I said it before the tournament even started Spoonz.

Australia will beat India in the semis. India in cricket is basically the same as England in football, one WC win and we think we are favorites going into every tournament.

And that will continue till you start producing genuine fast bowlers. Although, I'm not sure it matters in 20/20. You just need bowlers who can keep it tidy. Irfan looks good in that respect.

And I would like to anyone but Aus win this damn thing.

I used to think the same thing but I reckon with the likes of Patel,Singh and Pathan we have a decent pace attack just like we did with Nehra,Pathan,Balaji at the last WC. I think its just a mental thing. Whenever the pressure is really on especially away from the sub-continent we choke.

Sorry, I was talking about Test cricket. In the other forms, it's not as important, as you've touched on.

Australia v India

Match about to start, India are batting first...

India: Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Uthappa, R Sharma, Dhoni (capt & wk), Pathan, Harbhajan, J Sharma, Santh, RP Singh.

Australia: Gilchrist (capt & wk), Hayden, Hodge, Symonds, Hussey, Clarke, Haddin, Lee, Johnson, Bracken, Clark.

10th over - Ind 60-2

I think they're behind runs wise... Still they have wickets left..

I'm warming to 20/20 cricket

SA have done a great job after the fiasco in WI
