Cricket: ICC World Twenty20 tournament Sept 2007 in South Africa

165 to win for England. Lame batting effort by the Black Caps

62/1

Solanki the wicket just gone. A good start.

KP didn't get a terrible reception when he came out, some booing of course but still.

87/2, 13th over.

Got to get a bit of a move on here, run rate and all.

EDIT: 87/3 Colllingwood's just been caught. This parntership of KP and Shah has got to be a big one you'd think.

104/5

KP never really got going before he was caught.

Freddie run out in a a right mix up with Shah.

Looking dodgy now.

28 runs of 18, England should get it.

Oram has gone off with a blow to his finger. Looks in agony.

We've thrown this away utterly.

You can't fault Solanki, Maddy or Wright really, just eveything and everyone in between.

Damn disappointing.

I missed the morning match (its way too early for me :D) it sounded like a good one though. Probably very likely now that England won't qualify.

Next up...

Australia v Pakistan

THE TOSS: PAKISTAN WIN AND WILL FIELD FIRST

Tanvir strikes first. Very strange action. Don't know how he generates the pace like that. 8-1.

Doubt it, the openers (Nazir and Butt) are non-existant in this tournament so Pakistan virtually start nought for two.

PAK haven't had a decent opener since Saeed Anwar retired, anyway...

Australia 164-7 (20 overs)

Decent effort by PAK that they tightened up in the last few overs so its made it look better than it was. Been impressed by the fielding, PAK normally have a bunch of monty panesars in the field but they fielded well and got a few direct hits unlucky to get only 1 wicket off them.

They have a decent chance of winning this but the openers will have to play their part.

Shahid Afridi will be pivotal, mind you that's hardly the most amazing punditry on my part.

The ground suits the chase though.

True; he's my favourite all-time player is Anwar.

Anyway, did well to restrict Australia. Need to avoid a batting collapse and its more than chasable in my opinion.

Afridi is hit and miss when the miss is about 9 times out of 10; can't remember him having much luck against Australia at all. Think others (i.e. Malik, Younis) will be crucial.

The Aussies have a problem here, Pakistan only need 30 off 29 and Malik is well in at the minute.

Great win for Pak.

Aussies have not looked that good in the tournament, England really should have taken that chance to knock them out. I could see SRL progressing to semis ahead of aussies

Pakistan 165-4 (19.1 overs) beat Australia 164-7 (20 overs) by six wickets

Great bit of cricket from PAK played like a decent team, fielded well, bowled well and eventually 2 people batted well.. :D

Australia struggled to get just a few more runs that they needed due to some great bowling in the last 3 overs. They looked set to get 180+ before the last 3 overs but somehow the bowlers took the wickets and stopped the flow of runs...

The PAK openers let themselves down again and when Younis followed them I thought it was all over but a good few knocks from Malik took over the match and the partnership of 119 guided it home.

Misbah-ul-haq was man of the match for his knock 66* off 42 balls.

The winning run came from a wide from Symonds...

I think that pretty much means Pakistan are likely to go through... not for definite yet though!

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka due to start soon...

Pakistan's through, surely. They've impressed me. As always, a very good bowling line up. The openers really let them down, I wouldn't expect anything from the top three.

20k posts up, Spoonez. Nice to see not much fanfare about having a huge post count for a change.

They should just let Afridi open. They look the favs atleast to reach the final but eventually the failure of top 3 would hurt them.

They should just let Afridi open. They look the favs atleast to reach the final but eventually the failure of top 3 would hurt them.

That's been tried before and as you may know Afridi only performs to what he is capable some of the time so it is just the same really. (Although maybe he should be put up the order)

The top 3 have all been openers at one point as well, we have used many more like Farhat but he has joined the rebel league so it doesn't look like he has a future in the PAK team. Dropping them just makes it worst as they need to get used to the role, I think it was only a while ago when it was pointed out that we used a large amount of combinations in a period of two years.

PAK just don't have a top class natural opener...

Anyway that's the only blatant downside at the moment - PAK are even fielding well but that might be to do with the younger lads in the team instead of big fat Inzy n Yousuf for example...

Should be through to the semi's where at the moment it looks like it will be one of NZ or SA...

Sri Lanka 147-5 (20 overs) beat Bangladesh 83 all out (15.5 overs) by 64 runs

Did okay just couldn't get going in their batting innings...

It sets up to what could be a great deciding match against Australia & Sri Lanka.

Tomorrows matches...
South Africa v New Zealand, Durban (1300)
England v India, Durban (1700)

Have you lot heard about this >> http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2007430259,00.html

The storm clouds are circling an England touring party once again. The media out there in South Africa sound like they're going to latch onto it, there has been no official reaction as yet.

Collingwood fined over strip club

England have fined one-day captain Paul Collingwood £1,000 after he went to a lap-dancing club on the eve of Sunday's Twenty20 match against South Africa.

England lost the Super Eight game by 19 runs, with the married Collingwood out first ball, and he said he later apologised to the England management.

"It's obviously unacceptable. I'm England captain and going to these places isn't the thing to do," he said.

"You learn from these lessons and hopefully it won't happen again."

Poor bowling in the end by NZ. Full tosses all around. Eng are out and India need to win both the matches now.

No doubt we'll put in a blinder now with the pressure is off and us virtually on the plane home.

Lovely

We're batting first.

Agarkar dropped.

Big blow for England that.
