I guess he picked it since it's one of the few grounds in the world that offers something for everybody - pace, spin and some marathon batting. It's hardly deserving of the final though. I wouldn't even consider it Australia's best. Surely that should be Melbourne - 100k capacity, first ever test match and sheer spectacle. Sydney's picturesque but it takes what 40k (Edit: the Bible says 44k)?

I'd pick Lords for the history as you suggest.

That was the reason.

The last test draft we had was very lop sided in favour of fast bowlers. Cricket unlike many other sports can be heavily influenced by the venue of the contest. That is why I specified the ground we may be playing at. I will take on board some of the suggestion and may change the venues before starting the matches.

Also should we go for 12 per team or more?

12 should be fine if we are having reinforcements later on.

I'm not sure about the venues. While it is realistic, it's not possible to draft without knowing them and luck would play a strong role if a team gets a surface most of its players and not the opposition. I'd rather prefer if we consider a hypothetical surface that suits all types of players so that the result comes down to the ability.

Venues were already there before the draft began so it is up to everyone to make sure they pick a team for all seasons. Great cricketing teams have performed well on all surfaces. Luck will come into play when a venue is picked for a match but then it is part of any sport.

What I am saying is a lot of great players had differences in performances depending on surfaces. So someone can be justified in picking someone who would be good at Lords but not at Eden Gardens, and would be unlucky to get that venue. There's not much you can do while drafting to counter that, and it is pure luck.

I don't think people are going to be specific about venues to that degree. The purpose of venues is to have ones that are spin friendly/pace friendly. Don't really expect anyone to vote with the level of granularity of specific venues.

That's cool. For example if someone doesn't have a spinner, him being on an Indian dustbowl would be a disadvantage. That's fine with me as long as people don't abuse statsgure by bringing out averages of individual players on given venues.

That's gonna happen and it is no different to people dissing Hearth because of his away form.

Which doesn't make sense. There are players with legit concerns of away and home form but particular performances on ONE venue doesn't define how that player plays in those conditions.

Blame IL for picking both Cairns and Greig. I so wanted another allrounder to go with Kallis.

Does anybody have ghali's next pick/s? We need to get it from him before he goes to sleep and we wait long hours.

Crappy if a player had debuted before 1970 but played during that time period(i.e. from 70s till 90s) can he be picked?

Jayasuriya. You dirty cnut.. Time for my number 2 choice..

Could and did want to take a punt, but there was no way he was lasting, what with RI and his Dujon love.

Good pick with Cairns btw IL. Was surprised to see Flintoff go before him.

The Herath pick appears strange but I am struggling to come up with a better spinner that KM could have picked.

If I didn't pick Stewart, I would have picked Dujon. Brilliant keeper - but I needed an opener. I'm surprised Anwar lasted this long. Do others not rate him?
