Covid Outbreak at Man Utd

What's the chances of Brighton being called off? I'm travelling up from London and rushing around for Covid tests specifically for it.

I fail to see how it won't be called off, isolation and everything is 10 days isn't it? So all those missing won't be back for it?

Yeah having half the squad and coaches quarantining will help us pull it together
Haha! I'm glad you pointed that out, I was thinking the same think.

They are a lot of angry members on here today. Does the new variant make people’s mood change ?
It's been like this in the world for almost 2 years now. People argue so frequently nowadays.

Why? Because I tend to like places where you don't live on top of one another and have to get the tube everywhere? I know a lot of people that live in London and it's not for me at all. As for suggesting Winter Wonderland as a place to visit? You think I'm the poor excuse of a tourist?
London is a huge diverse city with plenty to see and do, you can find something for everyone. Getting on a tube is a choice, there are plenty of bikes you can hire or even cars if you have a bigger budget. In London you have endless choices, I'm sure you can find something you enjoy.

Positive cases yes but we don't know how many of those there are in the likely lineup.

From this week contacts don't need to isolate anymore.

It's been like this for a lot longer now. With Google and the internet anybody can acquire just enough knowledge about something to be dangerous.

 You've read the quoted post completely out of context haven't you

We don't know how many positive tests, but have to be enough for the League to prefer postponing the game rather than to risk it to play.

I suppose it all depends on WHY the game was postponed. If it was postponed due to there being too many players suffering with covid or having to self isolate (those who haven't been vaccinated would still need to isolate after being a contact) then those players will still be isolating for at least another week or so meaning Brighton won't go ahead but Newcastle shold be OK. Like with Spurs their outbreak was announced just after the Norwich game, those players should be back in time for them to play Leicester on Thursday.

If it was postponed due to the fact that the training ground had to close meaning the club weren't adequately able to prepare for the game, then that shouldn't put the Brighton game in doubt

I just checked in with my daughter, who just completed her dissertation at Yale on an RNA topic. She laughed out loud at the suggestion that an mRNA vaccine could change your DNA.

That said, it’s a pretty good bet that the Brighton match will be postponed as well. Looking further down the road, things probably get worse before they get better. Time to rewatch United YouTube videos from the Ferguson era. Or maybe some of the greatest moments under Louis and José.

Why does everyone keep saying the Brighton one will be cancelled too?

Carrington is now open again, big reason for that postponement was because they were unable to train.

Brighton said they had positives but they have a match tomorrow which they haven’t asked to postpone yet

I think because even those who haven't yet tested positive are separated, haven taken part in close quarters training, sharing a changing room etc. puts them at high risk of later testing positive themselves for both us and Brighton.

42 positives n the league isn't good news.

Fecking hell this thread is worse than f1 2021 thread. Does future2future have any future in here ?

Good to see they are reinstating some of the measures from last year. It's unfortunate but hopefully we can see some football before New Year's and everyone can stay safe.

The one thing I find odd is that they're doing LFT before training but those tests don't catch Covid as well as the PCR and they're only doing a PCR to confirm after a positive LFT.

I know they are also doing PCRs twice a week separately but it feels like they can easily afford to do those, so short of taking into account the need for PC in the whole country, I am not sure why they don't just do PCRs.

Yeah I thought this, just get PCR’s done every day for everybody.

Pointless messing around with flow tests, get the proper ones done daily.

Just saying there’s a strong possibility. When in doubt, caution must prevail.

Does feel a bit mad that Old Trafford could potentially have 76k people in it for our next match.

Optimistic you think 76k people will either be fully vaccinated or provide a negative LFT.... Too many idiots for it to be that smooth of a process.

I mean I said potentially. Realistically we could still see above 60k.

Is Carrington open yet? If so, surely the game on Saturday goes ahead?

It's impossible to really know without information on the number of players and staff infected (and numbers of non-vaccinated players & staff also now isolating).

My guess is that our next game will be Newcastle away in 13 days' time.

I guess it depends how much of the squad test positive. If it’s only a few and the training ground can get reopened then probably fine.

I know its not great for fans but they should just cap to 50% capacity or something at least.

Yes that's it. I'm sure the reason for today was reported as lack of preparation due to the training ground closure. We haven't had details on how many positive cases or who's tested positive.

I go to the San Siro regularly which is even bigger than OT. It's an easy thing to enforce if they organise it correctly.

You know full well that isn't going to happen

As there are going to be fans travelling from around the globe for this game, I hope they don’t leave it too late and make an announcement asap if this game is going ahead or not.

So true. Even though its pretty much a given that I will fly out to the UK now, if they cancel it in advance, say by today or tomorrow, it saves me Airbnb money + the cost of the train. I’d rather just stay in London if the game isn’t going through. I’ve been to OT plenty of times before and done the tours so no real point in making the trip to Manchester with the game being off.

There's been nothing confirmed on either being a requirement yet. There may be the odd spot check but I doubt they'd enforce it.

Custis reckons that there were 4 players who tested positive. If there are no more, they will train on Wednesday and the game on Saturday will go ahead.

According to that BBC article posted here, from Wednesday fans will need to show a negative test result or proof of vaccination. Not sure how united will/if they will implement it mind.
