Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

Surely Liverpool get to start every game they play with a few goals head start just to acknowledge the gigantic lead they have in the league? You know, since sporting integrity is so high on the agenda.

Not at all. It’s a new tournament. Any other scenario lacks neutrality and integrity. Or do you disagree?

Liverpool* have been very unlucky but that’s life.

I wouldn't take any statements to date as being gospel, as the truth is that they're gambling on being able to play it out by the end of the summer.

At the moment that looks totally unlikely, and the whole relegation thing surely can't be decided on points per game. And they surely can't just not bother with relegation.
So what happens there?

The statements have consistently said the season will not be voided. That doesn't mean that it will be played out and considering the UK's current covid19 situation it looks increasingly difficult to conclude it with even a reasonable degree of safety within the timeframe UEFA has imposed.

The two main drivers for playing out are money and contractual obligations with the FA and EFL regarding promotion - both are huge problems in different ways but something will eventually give. My bet would be a current placings are final with no relegation and if the EFL and FA push hard then possibly two promoted for a 22 team league whenever season 20/21 eventually gets underway.

Surely Liverpool* and their fans have to rise to the occasion and take it on their chin and move on to the next Season.

If United were in Liverpools position 95% of post in here would be totally different.

All that talk of integrity...

How is it resolved? I can't see any legitimate way for you to win it without an *

He said it's the easiest to resolve, not that it is resolved.

And it is the the easiest to resolve, regardless of whether they ultimately award it to Liverpool or not. Relegation & promotion is a lot trickier as it carries much greater consequence financially.

United are second in loss due to this. You can feck of with that

I think Utd and even Liverpool are a long way behind Leeds, WBA and co - not in terms of prestige but financially and for the futures of their clubs.

Three Florentina players test positive and one Torino player too tests positive to Covid 19.

We are missing out on 2 potential cups and the CL, which could have a major effect on out tranfer window, setting us back years.

We also have the CL clause in our Adidas deal

Would be typical after a long gearing up to June/July that 40 PL players test positive against a handful in Italy Germany.

All true but I still think a promotion from the Championship is more valuable but can see your point. Even if no more games in this seasons PL or EL happen I still think you will be in next season's CL if it takes place.

How do you think that?

Assuming you think city will be banned

Have you just sprung up this last week?
The "Integrity" talk was totally from Liverpool fans for weeks and week and weeks, just based on any chance of them not getting the league.

The true integrity argument covers a huge amount more than one position. All this nonsense of neutral venues, shorter halves, no relegation, that's more In the ball park.

Yes, I could see that happening. Scrap the League Cup and try to play out a 42 game season behind closed doors from September/October.

That is option one but that's unlikely unless CAS fast track the case. i was thinking more of the point Figgins made earlier in this thread - Utd have the highest Co-efficient of teams left in the EL. If its not played out but a place is still awarded in lieu of a winner then it would give UEFA a legitimate way of getting Utd back into the CL which is good for the competition.

The league cup that a lot of teams barely play a game in anyway, or play youth teamers?

So you're packing extra games in, but starting later? All with the Euros next summer?

Needs work, that plan.

Missed that now, hmm, feck it, cancel the season haha

I know it sounds crazy considering the situation but it might be the only real compromise that most teams would agree too.

Now you're getting to grips with how to act on a United forum  :wenger:

I expect next season to be curtailed by subsequent lockdowns, so it's already doomed to failure, but this is a plan I could see the FA/PL attempting.

oh dear my standards are slipping

In all seriousness I would prefer Milan and other big clubs to be in it every year including Utd (just as long as you don't win it of course)

Milan are a great example.
Such a supreme club with their history and rollcall of great players, and such a shame they've totally fallen off it.

Probably the first club that you associate with Italy being THE powerful, rich league.

If/when they do start awarding stuff this season, you'd imagine they hastily write some amendments to the rules book in case of the worst next season.

Otherwise, if Liverpool are awarded a league 75% of the season in, albeit with a huge lead, what happens if it's all called off at xxx, or yyy games in, with much smaller leads? Precedents are a dangerous thing.

You do realise if there is a vote, no one would be surprised if chelsea vote no?

They have everything to lose and nothing to gain from the league being continued vs. stopped and the CL being picked based on current standing.s

I wouldn't be surprised either but i'd just as happily call them out for it being complete BS if they tried to dress it as anything other than "it suits us".

If they play out the season with no relegation I will never watch an English football game again.

There is no way this season can be finished with legitimacy or be considered as viable. It won’t be a title, relegation/promotion that is deserved if the money men keep pushing it through. Any continuation of this season is false and worthless. So the intelligent thing to do is void it and work toward the next season. Illiterate plebs who think a restart of this season, also decimating NHS stock and killing thousands of people in the process, is worthwhile just to get a pseudo league running need to take a good look in the mirror

Yes, its a delicate subject in terms of the CL and awarding places to clubs based on historical success. I see more pros than cons though and as a Liverpool fan I'm hedging my bets in case we fall off a cliff - again!

I am a sportsman, but I really do hope that this season gets voided....just so that LFC don't win the title.
Some people said that LFC cannot be prevented from winning the league this season....in walked in Covid19.

Regarding the Cup competitions - I think that they can be resumed at some stage, but if they aren't, no big loss for us.

I’m getting sick of this circus now. Just void the fecking league and start afresh in August or September. I want the season resumed more than anything but with so many clubs coming out and opposing playing at neutral stadiums it’s curtains in my opinion.

If this is doing your head in, why do you think a new season in August would be any better, the virus will still be here then.

Someone been unbiased would either say don't play games now "and" then. But when someone says void (without understanding that's not even an option now and would cause legal chaos) and then play a new season, you can tell right off there is bias.

My last post for the day so no more replies to replies I get now.

--

Also I see many replies that have not read existing posts, to clarify to those who don't understand.

UEFA have decided next season qualification is on 2019/2020 merits, no coefficient, no last season standings, if an association tries to nominate teams not on these merits, UEFA will reject it.

Voiding would also cause legal chaos it is not going to happen. Abandoning is a possibility, but not voiding. If we abandon, then in my view this should automatically mean no new season either, you wither finish this season, or you don't get next season either for consistency.
