Could Barkley be the answer?

Barkley was excellent at the back end of last season, playing in the right wing position.

That's a good point, I probably didn't see him excelling as I'd started abandoning much of the PL coverage from that time once Jose had fecked the league off for us .

However I still have questions over Barkley's effectiveness and frame of mind from before last season. I should obviously take a look at how he was doing then, but also I'd still like to see him turn out for Everton under their new boss to see if he can pick up his good form.

If Barkley is the answer I don't want to know what the question is.

I'm not surprised, since the question is: "Who will be next in the long list of players that Spurs will sign and United later wish they had signed"?

A list that currently stands at one since you didn't sign Kane, in the decades before that there were 2, Bale and Modric, given all of the trophies we've won in that time in comparison to Spurs, I don't think we've missed out on much.

Really? You're clearly not reading the same threads/posts as me then, concerning Eriksen, Alli, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose etc.

Whoever wants any of them bar Eriksen is vastly overrating the need for the others, and we sure as feck don't need your shiny new CB, we already have 3 better ones.

To improve squad competition and cover ... and also because Poch will likely improve him considerably and possible deploy him in a different role - more CM - from that at Everton.
Hes not close to good enough to play cm.

Think he'll end up staying at Everton now that Koeman has gone.

He wants regular games, and the teams he has been linked with wont be able to offer him that.

Rumour is he want some a move to us, and it's why he tuned down Chelsea on deadline day. Funnily enough now I question if we will o back for him in January as with Lamela returning and Winks improving he have plenty of options.
Regardless he'd be a fantastic option. You imaging having him, Lamela and Son as options off the bench to switch things in attack. And on peak form Barkley could fill in for a Dembele allowing a Winks to even play a DPM role. I doubt you'd be unhappy with that as a Spurs fan

No not at all I think he's a better attacking mid than a central midfielder and we do need someone in a creative attacking midfielder.

One of many answers if the question is Which player could we sign who'd be unlikely to improve the team in any discernible way whatsoever?

I'd be away to the Irwell to end matters if we ever signed this lad. He's shite.

This is actually the Barkley Utd should sign. As a wide right player he is more than good enough to play for us...
His dribbling, pace, strength, crossing and shooting ability... He can develop into a top player and not the faux Iniesta, England and Everton are willing him to... He lacks the vision or passing ability to play central for any top club.

Barkley would thrive at Spurs and you need him.

He wouldn't fit Joses system.

Alli would struggle at United right now. Little point in making the post that you did.

Surprisingly underrated on this forum. Then again a lot of posters here thought we shouldn't sign Lukaku because of his first touch.

Still a very raw player considering he is turning 24 in December. Clearly the talent is there and I believe his decision-making is very poor a lot of the time but when he gets it right he is one brilliant player to watch.

I believe under the right manager he could develop that footballing brain and improve on his decision-making as he still as a few years before he hits his peak. Maybe under Mourinho this could just happen...

If I am not mistaken, he is out of contract next summer? I wouldn't mind us taking a punt on him if it's for free! But not at the cost of us signing a more proven player with more quality in his position. I would happily take him to add squad depth and that's all and maybe he could end up being a key player for years to come.

If Barkley is the answer, I don't want to know the question.

16 PL goals and assists in 15/16, 13 PL goals and assists in 16/17. He played nearly every league game in those two seasons too. I think Everton are missing him this season.

At 23 the question is if he can kick on, he has not insignificant flaws in his game still.

Can't think of any question that Barkley could be the answer to. He has the physical attributes to be a fine footballer but none of the mental attributes.

Who would be a better squad option for midfield than Herrera that is going to be available on a free.

Could Barkley be the answer?
Only to the question "name a player we could waste £20m on and our midfield would not be noticeably better"

I suspect there are better options.
possibly - but better options on a free in the summer who can play a number of positions and fulfill the homegrown criteria?

If he would be happy to come as a squad player I would be all for his signing (and if by some fluke he suddenly consistently started playing to his full potential he would have the possibility of becoming a much more important player for us)

Consistent attackers are what we're lacking at the moment, and Barkley is as inconsistent as they come.

So what if he is free? I would rather we spend some of our budget on a better player, one that would actually improve us.

Why?

What would Barkley add to this side we don't have?

A proper no.10 who is strong and quick, who can shield the ball properly and not lose it 20 times in a match? I'm not his biggest fans but seeing how dire our no.10 situation is, I'd rather have him as playing with Mikhi is like playing with 10 men

I'm not suggesting we buy him at all cost, but IF there is no other option, he simply is better than any no.10 we have
