Cop in America doing a bad job, again

This one is particularly heinous. They are there to help her - they can't even say she was a suspect. And it escalates out of nowhere, for no reason. The woman must have been absolutely baffled.
This is just mental. Give her a chance to put the pot down.

He's charged with murder, at least. But this will keep happening as long as the US doesn't properly train its police officers. And you know, the racism thing. Also the gun thing.

It's never happening.

Edit: and you know that if they didn't have body cameras, he would have gotten off without any consequences what-so-ever. Imagine how often this happened before the cameras.

Jesus. That´s the most insane incident ive seen here so far. The shooter is definitely going to sit behind bars for murder with this footage. "Drop the fecking pot!"

Felt threatened how?

After so many incidents which have included punishment for the cops, I'm amazed that cops keep doing this (I shouldn't be).

It looks like training kicked in, which is basically shoot first and then they realised what they'd done at the end.

This is, an indictment on just how different cultures can be completely ignorant of one another's idiosyncrasies
When she said "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus" as a black person, I recognised that as a light hearted attempt at being sarcastic, playing around, banter etc. it's something that is said often in the context of satire to poke fun at how over the top (typically) black church pastors can be and using things like holy water to 'cleanse' whoever needs saving.
Again - to me - that was clear from the outset.

To someone who isn't familar or hasn't been to a black church service, i'm sure it's strange and confusing - and in this cops mind, he clearly took it as a threat.

Just a complete failure in policing and highlights the importance of having people in positions of power who can understand the people that they serve.

You don't even really have to be a black american Christian to understand that as banter. The woman apparently suffered from Schizophrenia though which may or may not have played some part in the policemens apparent paranoia despite the vast majority of people with Schizophrenia not being dangerous.

Even if she said, "I'm going to throw this pot of boiling water over you", it should have ended like it did. Even if they deemed her a threat, she has a pot of boiling water. Not a fecking bazooka. That guy should spend the rest of his life in prison.

He’ll be invited to speak at the next RNC.

I wouldn't be so sure of that...:annoyed:

Oh i'm not giving them any grace, trust me. It's more because I've seen a lot of people not understanding "I rebuke in the name of jesus", and like RexHamilton said in the post below, none of it justifies the outcome.
Until police officers integrate with the communities they are sworn to serve, these types of things will continue to happen.
You can tell from otheir body language they were standoffish with her, had no duty of care and were treating this interaction transactionally - despite her being the one who called them for help. You don't do that if you are well versed in the community and build trust and rapport with the locals.

Yeah, exactly. In a lot of these shootings you can sort of understand the overreaction in the context of a country that is riddled with guns, so cops are constantly terrified someone will pull one on them. In this incident that is not physically possible because they know exactly where her hands are. Holding a pot of water. So fecking crazy to think that they would interpret this as reason to shoot someone.

Head shot for carrying a pot of boiling water, not a leg shot or a body shot, must be standard procedure.

I don't think leg or arm shots are a thing for armed police. Aren't they always supposed to aim for the centre of mass? The idea being that if you're in a situation where you're in so much danger that you to need to shoot someone then winging them will never protect you fully.

Crucify these motherfùckers

From CNN:
"The release of the video comes about two weeks after the fatal shooting and just days after Grayson was charged in her death.

Grayson, 30, was indicted by a grand jury last week on three counts of first-degree murder and one count each of aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct. He has entered a not guilty plea and was denied pretrial release, according to court records."

Hope he rots in jail.

Even the command "drop the pot" is a terrible one. By giving her such a stupid order he was essentially sentencing her to death. If I were in this situation I wouldn't drop a pot full of boiling water on my feet either.

I had read the description of the incident, and I still don't quite believe what I just watched. They go from seemingly joking around to apparently feeling extremely threatened in a couple of seconds, and then they murder her. I genuinely can't figure out from that clip what makes them react like that.

This guy should be behind bars for a long, long time, and I actually believe he will. It's so obvious. Good thing his partner had his body cam on - otherwise he would probably get away with it.

I guess they wrongly understood her "I rebuke" remark as a threat. But Jesus are they trigger-happy.

That's what I thought when I read it, but she says it playfully?

The really mental part is the way she immediately responds to them pulling their guns out by saying she’s sorry and cowering on the floor but they still shoot her. Even if the version of events right up to that point involved her telling them she was going to kill them there’s no possible explanation for pulling the trigger when they did. Other than them going into the situation actively hoping for any sort of excuse to shoot her.

Surely a Taser needs to be used first right, you would only pull your gun out if you are going up against someone is armed.

Or a warning shot. Or backing off. Really anything but a headshot as the first escalation step.

The main guy is a massive prick to her from the start. When they are outside he is talking with an attitude and slightly aggressively. Was clearly thinking "give me a reason" . I can't understand how anyone can even claim they perceived her remarks as a threat.

Warning shots are generally illegal, though I did hear that at least one state was looking at legalisation.

Backing off would be a good shout, or not be stupid and appreciate that the comments were a light hearted bit of banter.

Glad he's being charged as it was a ridiculous escalation, but you never know with juries and the police

She's also in the middle of a mental health crisis, so they should have cut her some slack anyway.

You dont even need traning. Common sense. Keep your distance and ask for assistance from a health care professional

There was a fecking counter top in between

Couldn't watch the video with sound but why not just back away if they genuinely thought she was going to throw the water on them? No critical thinking applied
