Cop in America doing a bad job, again

just to offer some light comedy relief -

watch this sovereign citizen retard get owned

Absolute lunatic....I can only imagine what daily life is like for this nut....Surely his friends are just like his person because I can't perceive anyone on a normal level listening to his bullshit all day long. Hilarious none the less.

yup - they are all like that.

Messed up nutjobs.

This is from 2014-2015 -
The Sovereign Citizen movement was the most highly ranked threat, with 86 percent of respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing that it was a serious terrorist threat. This is a significant increase in ranking from an earlier survey implemented in 2006-2007, which showed Islamist extremists to be law enforcement’s top concern at the time. In that survey, approximately 67 percent agreed or strongly agreed that Islamist extremists were a serious terrorist threat

Those kinds of polls only matter as a feeler of public opinion. If you asked people is Hydric Acid dangerous? A good portion will say yes, not knowing it's water.

My bad...I should have clarified, they didn't ask the 'public'.

The survey asked 175 state, local and tribal (SLT) law enforcement agencies.

So, boots on the ground.

Or course, if they had asked the FBI...they probably would have mentioned Islamic Terrorism as the number 1 threat.

The article has an obvious negative slant and some of the incidents are seriously messed up.

I think it's a pretty complicated issue...

Reminds me of the raid at the end of S1 of the Wire.
SWAT, etc all armoured, communicating in signs, McNulty and Bunk walk in, arrest one guy, and walk out while those guys are still moving into position.

North Miami Officer Is Arrested Over Shooting Of Therapist During Standoff

Why did they opt for assault rifles from the get-go, with the precise circumstances yet to be determined?

Putting aside the fact that shots were fired on a man with a toy tanker truck (yah...), the officer missed the target. 150ish feet according to the report.

As much as the police in America do handle a lot of things badly, and there does exist some systemic racism, it must be an absolute nightmare to be a cop in america. Some part of me sympathizes with them. In a country where literally anyone could have a gun and blow your head off, that job must have you constantly on edge, which of course doesn't excuse most of what happens, just saying I would hate to do that job there.

I don't really see the need to get all high and mighty about this incident. The cops weren't profiling anyone. They were responding to a call from someone who said he'd seen those kids with a gun and it's reasonable to behave the way the cops did in that scenario. Witch-hunts like those only make the whole "us" and "them" problem even worse.

It's abut time they sacked this cop in America who's doing a bad job, the useless twit.

And this was how our shift started today.

SAN MATEO, Calif. - An armed suspect fatally shot by California Highway Patrol officers was pronounced dead at the scene this evening on U.S. Highway 101 near state Highway 92 in San Mateo, police said.

The suspect reportedly got out of a vehicle on the highway's northbound lanes and began shooting. Three CHP officers responded to the scene just after 5:30 p.m. and engaged with the armed man, police said.

All three fired their weapons, killing him.

The incident was initially reported as a traffic collision involving two vehicles on the highway, CHP officials said.

Northbound Highway 101 was closed around 6:15 p.m. Friday as officers investigated and worked to clear the scene. the CHP tweeted that the lanes reopened around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Following protocol in officer-involved shootings, three agencies are involved independently in the investigation of the incident, police said.

Inspectors with the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office will investigate the legality of the officers' actions. San Mateo police will investigate the alleged criminal aspects of the suspect. The CHP will also conduct an administrative investigation of the officers' actions, according to police.

All three agencies were at the scene for several hours and the investigation is ongoing.

No CHP officers were injured in the fatal shooting.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig-alert for all the highway's northbound lanes, just south of Highway 92. The incident caused a massive backup in the area and drivers in the San Mateo area have been asked to avoid the highway.

Adding to the traffic woes in San Mateo County, northbound Highway 101 in Menlo Park was briefly closed at Marsh Road due to a multi-vehicle collision, Menlo Park police officials said at 7:15 p.m. The highway in Menlo Park has since reopened.

Texas cop fatally shoots 15-year-old boy outside party #1

A 15-year-old boy has been shot dead by police as he and his friends were driving away from a party.

Jordan Edwards was hit by a bullet fired through a passenger window in Balch Springs, Texas, on Saturday night.

Police said they had been called following reports of drunken teens in the area and heard gunshots at around 11pm on Saturday.

Dallas News reported the vehicle had started driving towards officers in an “aggressive manner” when the officers opened fire.

The stricken teen was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Another source with more info:

Balch Springs Police said they were called to a report of “several underage kids walking around” in the 12300 block of Baron Drive about 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release. Police said the responding officers heard gunfire while looking for the teens and opened fire on the car Edwards was in after “an unknown altercation.”

The family’s attorney, Lee Merritt, told the newspaper Jordan and his friends were not the teens police were looking for and hadn’t been drinking. He said the other teens in the car are not facing charges.

“An unarmed 15 y/o child died after being shot in the head by Balch Springs PD. A cop shot multiple rounds into a car filled with teens,” Merritt said on Facebook.

“Another family ripped apart by police brutality. There was absolutely no justification for this murder,” Merritt said on Twitter. “We demand justice!”

Suggest reading this article way lot of info on it:

Jordan and the four teens with him had not been drinking, according to Merritt. They were not cited for underage drinking and have not been charged with any crimes, he said.

According to reporting from the NBC affiliate in Dallas, all Balch Springs squad cars have dash cameras and officers wear body cameras. Merritt said he was told there is body camera footage of the incident and that it has been turned over to the sheriff’s office.

Requests for comment from The Washington Post were not immediately answered by Balch Springs police, including on what policies the department has on shooting into moving vehicles.

Many major law enforcement agencies, federal officials and policing experts advise against shooting into moving vehicles, according to a 2015 investigation by the Guardian. The risk of harming an innocent party is too great, the Guardian reported, and the shots don’t often stop the vehicle.

Stunning about face from Balch Springs Police Chief, no longer says car was moving aggressively. Moving away from officer when he shot.

"the vehicle had started driving towards officers in an “aggressive manner” when the officers opened fire."

How can a vehicle drive in an aggressive manner?

Anyway, I think i've made my feelings pretty clear on this issue in this thread over a long period of time.

Nothing has changed in decades, it's just that now with social media more people will hear about it.

@vi1lain you miss the edit at the end? They're not even claiming that anymore.

Sounds like a clusterfeck of a situation and a cop has panicked and fired at the wrong car then just blurted out that the car was coming at him, but it's too early to really know.

The body camera footage will show what happened.

"Vroom! Vroom!" instead of "vrooooom"?

@Rado_N So the car was driving AWAY from the officers and they opened fire? Absolute shambles.

@JPRouve I'm thinking of those animated movies where the headlights scowl at the other car

There's nothing that hasn't been said on this recurrent topic.

The only major factor that has changed from probably last year or 2 years ago, is the current Justice Department's decision to withdraw directives that mandated several police departments across the country to reform practices. Luckily, some of the departments affected (Baltimore, Cleveland) have committed to reform; the concrete worry here is that for the next 4 years, all but the worst cases of systematic police misconduct in departments across the country will be ignored by the Justice Department. In addition, the Justice Department, aligning with Trump's "Law and Order" pledges, will ramp up pressure on district attorneys to ramp up arrests and convictions of drug crimes, which disprportionately affect minorities.

That thug was sat down very aggressively, cop really must have feared for his life.

What is actually wrong with the police in America. I mean I posted before about how it is a high stress situation being out in the field where anyone could be armed, but this is a guy sitting at a desk inside what looks like a school. Absolutely disgusting.

Yeah, but what was in the flat blue folder? Paper cuts can be nasty!

That front tooth could have been an offensive weapon, the cop obviously had to disarm him by removing it.

Not all police :)

True.

What's the general attitude within the force towards the current environment and these cases we keep seeing? Are cops angry about the bad apples giving them a bad name or is resentment aimed elsewhere, at the press maybe for example?

Also, would you expect the average cop to do something about it if they witnessed something bad going down or is there a locker room style attitude to having each others backs no matter what?

This is actually a huge problem in that there are not enough cops willing to stand up to the bad apples. There is still the idea that cops don't report on each other and if you don't go along with that you might find yourself with your fellow officers unwilling to back you up in tight spots. Even in my small city there have been instances of otherwise good cops turning a blind eye to the actions of their fellow officers or willing to help cover these actions up. We had one issue where a cop was fired from his job in a neighboring city because he was sexually harassing female suspects (though this was not made public at the time) our city hired him and within months had the same problem. Now you know the cops in my city had to have known why he was fired, they work too closely with the departments in neighboring communities for them not to, but yet they hired him anyways.
