Conte | Spurs Manager

Sitting third in the league and through the group stage of the champions League. I'd have snapped your arm off for that at the start of the season. Imagine what we can do when we start playing well.
What leads you to believe you will other than blind optimism? You’ve never really ‘played well’ under Conte.

We won the group mate. If we got that var call last week we would have qualified with a game to spare.
That VaR call which was correct?

If kolasinac scores that sitter in the last few minutes you would be out. I would call that barely qualifying tbh.

Because he is a world class manager who hasn't yet got the players required to successfully play in the way he wants. Therefore it's common sense to assume that if he gets backed by the club and we bring in more players he wants, like we did with Kulusevski and Bentancur (both have been brilliant for us) we will improve a lot.

Like the other poster said, you barely qualified. It was a factual statement.
You talk like we win the champions league group every time we are in it and it's a walk in the park. The group we had may not have had a stellar club in it but it didn't have a dead rubber either, every team was capable of winning the group and there were no easy games.

Common sense would tell you he’s been in charge for what, a year? & hardly gotten a tune out of you.

Many a ‘World Class Manager’ have failed at clubs far better equipped than Spurs have ever proven to be but I do find the optimism almost as amusing as spending time on a United forum on the evening your team scraped through in the Champions League.

Every failed manager thinks they hadn’t got the players required to play the way they want.

If him getting us our best start ever to a premier league season after 10 games and qualifying from our champion's league group is hardly getting a tune out of us then I hope he continues to not get a tune out of us for the rest of the season. Not forgetting him somehow getting us into the champions league last season which appeared impossible when he came in.

Also I like this forum and enjoy talking to most of you so let's not have that thrown up in my face please. I'm here through thick and thin whether we win or lose and put up with a lot. Genuinely going to sleep now.

They are definitely functional, in a Conte way, it's just boring for neutrals to watch. They have 2 DM's in midfield, it's Jose style with wingbacks, and the less said about Royal as a wing back the better.

I think most fell asleep watching the match.
To be fair the match was very excited and alot chances were created both sides. Spurs are doing come backs alot lately and that is a sign of a winning mentally. They stopped being a bottle job. Games like this tonight, you could bet that they would loose. Conte is a proven winner.

There is nothing wrong with his tactics otherwise the results would be different. If he gets a creative midfielder in January that will end the side ways and the back basses.

As a Manchester United fans we shouldn't look at the houses of a team that is in the last 16 of UCL and above us in the league while our house is not that clean. We barely beat Westham the other day.

And they barely beat Marseille who have been in poor form for close to a month now

The game was basically a coin flip - either team could have won that's how close it was.

Are you referring to the fighting cock? A lot of those guys aren't even spurs fans. It's honestly the worst football forum on the internet full of morons. Please do not think it is representative of spurs fans because it isn't. I'm in another very large spurs forum and I've not seen a single fan in there say they want Conte out. Many are frustrated with how we are playing, as am I at times, but the vast, vast majority want the Club to back Conte as we know he is the best manager we have had in decades.
We don't have a separate forum for top reds here but surely the one you're referring to must only welcome top cocks.

I think Conte is the best manager that you can get -- Poch has always flattered to deceive. Conte actually gets results. As United fans, we may not always agree on the style versus results. But there is no doubt that Conte will get you silverware.

But they won,

What's that saying....good teams find a way to win when not playing well?

Heard it muttered a few times after the West Ham game, same rules apply here as well.

I've always tried to understand why this forum has so much hate and disrespect for Conte. Since he has taken over, he's got Spurs to the CL, they've topped the group, they're 3rd in the league, 3rd most goals scored. Not sure what else are people expecting from this Spurs side, which is not filled with world class players.

This forum laughed at Pep and called him a fraud, he's won 5 of the last 4 league titles. Same with Arteta and now he's top of the league. As far as boring football is concerned, people here used to find prime Barca boring. The way this place talks about Conte and his football, you'd think they're talking about Southgate or Big Sam.

The man has won the league every time he was expected to. He might not win the league with Spurs, but what he has done so far with what is available to him, it's baffling how people are having a go at him.

It's exactly like Mourinho here. At some point you'll stop winning then there is nothing to kook forward to and it becomes toxic. Even draws feel like a waste of time.

And if PEH hits the target rather than the bar 20 minutes earlier, we would have been comfortably through with no late drama at all. And if my grandma had wheels, she would have been a bike.

Such a strange way of looking at things.

I'm not always entirely sure what people are expecting either, in terms of results at least. It's a strange mixture of simaltaneously saying we're shit but then also expecting more of the results.

We barely qualified from one of the easier CL groups this year? Well, I mean yeah. We're not an elite team or club and were undoubtedly one of the easier pot 2 clubs to draw. We'll potentially go through the next round if we get a good draw and then almost certainly will be knocked out at the QF if we do. We won't be challenging for the league realistically. That's fine, few people seriously thought it that realistic a possibility. Top 4 would be a good achievement this season.

I'm not actually as defensive of Conte as many spurs fans and for reference, never thought Mourinho and Spurs was a good fit. The football is at times truly mind numbing and I don't like how we start games.

Still, despite that, we're picking up points and have been doing so at a good level now over a seasons worth of games.

I hope the performances improve because that first half yesterday was a real tough slog. Regardless, a lot of us will give Conte time because of his (very recent) past achievements and how we looked when he took over. I genuinely thought we were staring at a period of time in the wilderness and a total squad rebuild. That rebuild is happening, just with semi reasonable results in the meantime.

Conte is not a world class manager, his record in the Champions League is far too poor to label him that. They will get beaten in the knockouts. They will finish top four because Kane and Son alone are good enough to beat most of the teams outside the top six. I still think Pochettino is nailed on to return to Spurs, that is a match made in heaven.

I wouldn't be so sure. Like Chelsea or United they have frailties which could see them finish off the pace. If we assume that City and Arsenal will finish top 4 that leaves 2 spots. Chelsea, United, Spurs, Liverpool and perhaps Newcastle will be in the mix.

Anything could happen but if you're not playing well and reliant on two players then it's a very fragile foundation for a top 4 push.

So you wrote an essay to agree with the point.

Of course anything can happen, Spurs do seem to have an annoying ability to defend well (Conte) and then one of Kane or Son to do the business. They are consistently good against the weaker sides. But anything can happen, you're absolutely right, especially with this season having a world cup break. I do think Man Utd are currently looking better for a top four finish considering our fixtures but a long way to go.

Stopped reading after this.

If anything, Conte is a downgraded version of Simeone.
I'd take Conte above Simeone, Conte has at least proved himself at different clubs. Conte is probably the best of the defensive counter attack managers right now but below peak Mourinho.
