Conte | Spurs Manager

Nice out of context post that.
Not really, as the point was to counter the post that said that VAR sucks all emotion out of football. It does remove some happiness, but only for the team who without VAR would've scored an unlawful goal, but for the other team it can bring lots of emotion as well.

What I'm trying to say is that VAR giveth and VAR taketh. Not to say that I think it's a flawless system but like @kouroux has been saying, why is everyone acting like Sporting should just accept having an offside goal go against them? They'll be happy to not have conceded an offside goal in the last minute to lose them the game, won't they?

It took almost four minutes to make a decision, that's what he is complaining about and he is totally right. It completely took all the excitement out of the game.

Nah idk looks to me like Conte was still very very excited and then 4 minutes later the Sporting players and fans were excited. And it's obviously not the norm that it takes so long, normally it's quite quick. VAR can surely be critisised (often they don't get the right decision even with VAR, it's very inconsistent, ...) but that every now and then a decision takes a bit longer isn't too bad imho. I prefer to wait a bit longer and get the correct decision.

No, it didn't. The VAR result added a lot of excitement to the game

Glenn Hoddle saying fans are going to stop coming to the grounds because they can't celebrate properly because of VAR. Why the feck would that be a reason to no longer attend the stadium?

Absolutely baffling the crap ex players say.

If it was the other way Glenn would have been livid and would have wanted it disallowed, they don't half talk rubbish the ex players

Problem for Conte is that playing this style of football you need a rock solid back line. I don't rate any of their defenders. Even Romero is hugely overrated I think.

They'd be better off just going for teams with a "you score 3, we'll score 4" attitude, because you're not going to consistently grind out results with Dier and Sanchez in your defence.

I have been waiting too long now for the wheels to fall of, I can't see a Top 4 finish for them with this mentality. If no CL, then Conte will leave in an acrimonious manner and it's back to the drawing board for Levy.

It's exactly what Neville was alluding to when arguing with Richards on Sky when Spurs were flying last season. Glad we missed out on Conte in the end, although I will admit being sucked into wanting him at the time when anything was better than Ole.

Conte is as short term as you can get these days. I was dreading the idea of him coming to United because it would have suggested we haven't learned from past mistakes.

Spurs have played dreadful football for years now. At least in the 90s and 00s, they played entertaining football and had the reputation for doing so. I really enjoyed watching Harry Redknapp's and Poch's Spurs sides.

But this Conte team, and the Nuno and Jose ones before it - are one of the worst 'footballing' sides in the Premier League.

He will be gone by February/March I think.

Yeah if they make it out of the group, can see them defo getting knocked out in L16 and it's probably curtains for Conte from there.

Yeah, even though I knew it would have been a disastrous appointment akin to Jose, part of me thought Conte might not be as much of a nightmare here because he'd get the financial backing that he always whinges about not having, so that could have been a difference.

But just looking at his football, even if he brought results, he'd bring nothing sustainable to this club and we'd be watching Perisic now instead of having someone like Eriksen in the team.

Dodged a bullet big time.

Only if you are on the receiving end. If it's rightly called, then it's worth it
I sort of agree. But even when your team scores and you have to wait a few minutes for it to get confirmed, personally that does take something away from it for me. It’s the two or so minute standing around with the noise levels dropping significantly that does it.

Spurs always do this, they aren't good the whole game and win with a late goal in the 90' minute, its bloody ridiculous

They’re still a very unconvincing team. Going to be tough for them to stay in the top 4.

A false down. They’ll continue to be shite going forward. They got out of jail today.

We were excellent in the second half. Not sure what you were watching?
Unfortunately, a match consists of 2 halves.

Bournemouth being 2-0 up we’re always going to sit back 2nd half. Did you expect any different?

Moura made a difference. Spurs really need that ball carrier in central areas otherwise their build up is so predictable if they haven't got clear space to run into. Really need to sign a CM who can do that even if it goes against Conte's principles.

Surprised Perisic has fallen out of favour already unless he's carrying a knock?

It's just rotation. We are playing a game every three days at the moment.

Perisic seems to have been on bench frequently in recent times unless I'm mistaken?

Are you linked to any creative CMs? Skipp, Hojiberg, Bentancur and Bissouma is just four players all doing the same job so restricts the balance of squad, saw enough of Bissouma at Brighton to see he isn't great once he ventures into opposition half.

Really surprised you didn't go back in for Eriksen once he'd shown he could play high intensity football regularly at Brentford.

Nobody linked as far as I know but it's a glaring hole in the squad so hopefully we bring someone in.

Important win for Spurs after couple of bad results. Their next league game is against Liverpool at home and might be a good chance for some kind of result, though they only beat Liverpool once since 2012 so it'll take some performance to win that game.

Are we back to thinking we made a massive mistake not appointing him yet?
Or does that peak and trough cycle need a couple of wins?

He's still doing o.k. Still in top 4 although they are getting exposed more in games now as the general stats suggested. CL is so so but nothing new with Conte given his previous decade in that competition. Cups yet to start so need to judge him more in six months.

People just throwing it out there Spurs could seriously challenge for the league in August, come on. Miles off getting up to 90 points as Man. City can do in their sleep so if that's the metric Conte will be judged by he's obviously going to fail.

Such a strange thing they are so high in the table, despite playing very average football and relying on set pieces. BTW how the hell are they so effective at it?

People who think we made a mistake in not appointing him need to give there head a wobble. We looked at the bigger picture, someone who will build an exciting team and play good football. Not another mourinho who’ll sign average players and play average football. I guarantee Ten Hag will win a trophy with us before conte does with them because he’ll probably be sacked next season. Grinding out results won’t last forever.

Winning individual duels and episodes instead of amassing catchy, cumulative metrics is just another way to play football… the difference, at the end of the day, is made by the quality and the number of superior players you will field three days in, three days out. They are rotationally thin, a bit meh here and there and fatigued… that said, their most important game is midweek and then they still have Liverpool at home? Insane!

Would Conte have won a trophy with us is the question. It's a bit harsh to judge Conte winning one for Tottenham, against Ten Hag for us.
Tottenham have won 2 league cups in 2 decades. Even in our "downer" decade since Fergie we've still been in countless finals and won a few trophies.

I'm delighted we went Ten Hag by the way.

I get what your saying but if we’d of gone with Conte then I don’t think we’d be going upwards… we’d be still in the same situation as we have been for the past few years. We’d be looking for a new manager again next year. I’d say conte as just a good enough chance of winning a trophy with them as Ten Hag as with us but I don’t think it will happen. Conte is rated higher then Ten hag and has more experience with winning.

Imagine having to watch this football every week, I almost feel sorry for Spurs fans.

Really dreadful stuff, almost anti-football.

It’s such a delight and relief to know we didn’t have to suffer with this especially after Jose.

Incredible that they've had Mourinho, Nuno and Conte back to back.

Must be eyeing up whichever of Simeone and Southgate is out of a job first when Conte's rattle exits the pram.
