Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather | Again?

Who was the whopper who sounded surprised Mayweather was inside the weight limit? he's weighed 2lbs inside the limit for a 147 fight.

And why do UFC summarisers think their weight cut is any more severe that what boxers were doing before it even existed as an organisation?

The weight cutting is probably more severe for them. There's less divisions in the Ufc than boxing so fighters have bigger cuts.

Can't believe McGregor called out Mayweather out for looking like sh!t at the weigh ins

It's possible that you are 6'4, Nick. Everyone is tiny to you.
That's a fair point, but he still looked surprising small. His bouncers don't help on that front in fairness.

Boxers have boiled themselves down for years and put a stone on between weigh in and entering the ring - it's not anything new.

154 should be a piece of p*ss for McGregor - he's not a big man by any means.

He looked drained. He'll rehydrate and get up about 15-20 pounds, but clearly struggling to make weight. That's fine if his plan was to come in like this and make the most of his physical advantage, but he could be gassed.

That always seemed natural. This seemed forced.

Definitely. Will be interesting to see how he is tomorrow, but I sense it won't go well for him (which would be a "good showing"). I don't see him getting knocked out, but he could easily be stopped. In my mind the fight will play out with McGregor getting frustrated chasing shadows as Floyd counters and lands every other punch.

People were having a hard time saying who was faster (McGregor or Mayweather). To my mind it's not even a contest. Mayweather is mentally and physically the faster man. He's small, awkward and smart. McGregor doesn't have a boxer's physique (he's not a boxer, so that makes sense).

I get the sense that he believed that all throughout the build up, but now I'm sensing the occasion is dawning on him. We'll see tomorrow.
He's reminding me of the Conor we saw for the Aldo fight. What we're seeing is excitement.
He also can't just rely on telling everyone about how much richer he is which has been his biggest criticism since then. He's had a few massive title fights called off at the last minute and came out and said he never believed Alvarez should have been allowed to get into the octagon with him. Conor has been fighting last min replacements, lost title opportunities and had a massive falling out with Dana. This is the first time in a long time I've seen Conor genuinely hyped up for a massive moment in his career.

I don't disagree with any of that. But since the likes of McGregor have been pro I'd suggest there's far more weight classes in boxing so they don't have cut as much cos they have more divisions available.

Agree with second point to but fighters have tough cuts it happens and it looks like it did here purely from looking st him in the weigh in.

Conor was excited for the weigh in!

Don't know who let the armchair psychologists out of the United forum. Didn't see anything to suggest Conor was nervous, acted the same as he does at every weigh in.

Him claiming Floyd was in poor shape seemed baffling to me though given he was lean and ripped.. Guess he couldn't think of anything else to try get under his skin.

The lack of weight classes. It's around 15 lbs per class in MMA. A lot of people need to drastically cut weight or they fight much bigger opponents from 2 weight classes up who face the same problem.
It's a lot different in boxing. If Conor went up as many weight classes as Floyd did he would be fighting Stipe next.

Mcgregor is entertaining. Wish we had special characters like this in football. Sometimes it's cringe-worthy, but it's way better than the humble malarkey we get all the time. It's bound to form some United-Arsenal type rivalries as well.

If that's Floyd in bad shape then feck knows what McGregor thinks he looks like when he's fit.

I see your point but boxers have boiled themselves down the same way since forever to try and gain the same sort of size advantages. You could have someone who is fighting at around their natural weight facing someone who has boiled themselves down exactly the same amount a UFC fighter might do.

I get there are less divisions i was just saying it's nowt new as far as i'm concerned because i know for a fact boxers have cut similar amounts of weight to fight in a weight class much lower than they should really be competing in.

MMA weight cuts are more severe because there is far more to gain from it in grappling exchanges.

A stone (14lbs) is a pointless figure to throw around unless you also mention what weight class you are talking about.

Conor trains at 165-170 and regularly fought at 145, 20+ pound cut. Brock cuts from 300lbs to 265lbs, a 35lb cut. There was a guy a few years back who would cut from 195lbs to 155, a 40lbs cut.

Just dropping this in here, highlights of my favourite Mayweather fight. Corrales. 5'11, for the record.

Yes but MMA fighters go to extreme lengths because they need their weight advantages or they'll be grapple fecked to death by the bigger man.
UFC. Is ridiculous with this, it's actually dangerous with the new iv rule to the point they've implemented early weigh-ins so they can fully hydrate before the fight.
A few boxer's may do this but nearly every MMA fighter goes through this.
Anyway it's dangerous for both sports, a dehydrated brain getting smacked around does a lot more damage in that state.

I remember in the derby at home last season when we lost 2-1, there was an interview with a United supporting fighter at halftime. Anyone remember who it was? I was at Old Trafford but can't recall who it was.

Crolla?

BTW, why do white fighters never have big chests? Mayweather looks as cut as the most perfect marble statue. McGregor looks more like the loudmouth member of the local building site crew.

Floyd looked so calm.

Was watching the ShowTime feed on Facebook & he said he's dedicating the fight to Paulie Malinaggi... I bet the whole thing with McGregor was scripted to generate hype.

Dana White's a dickhead though, he ain't done shit and he's taking home a big piece of the pie I bet.

:smirk:

McGregor has the bigger chest. He just went through a tough weight cut whilst Mayweather isn't depleted of food or water. McGregors also broader so he's not going to have that barrel chest look. Certainly has nothing to do with him being white.

Not that the chest will do anything for him in the fight.
