Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather | Again?

Does no one think this match is going to be fixed?

Nope. Don't see any real reason for it to be. Mayweather doesn't need to fix the fight to win and, much though he loves his money, I doubt the prospect of a rematch is enough for him to sully his undefeated record by losing to a non-boxer.

I think there is no way Mcgregor would have any chance of beating Mayweather, and there must be some fixing to make the match entertaining before Mayweather knocks him out.

Does Mayweather really care about making the fight entertaining? People will already have paid their money by the time that becomes an issue. I don't see what he really has to gain from carrying McGregor for a while when he'll get the same reward for stopping him asap anyway.

No, but I'm very sure McGregor would have inserted a clause where he's made to look strong.

Honestly, I don't think McGregor's advisers would have allowed him to fight in a boxing match against arguably the best boxer in history without having certain terms on how the fight is played out.

He's getting paid more money than he will in his entire UFC career combined. In fact he could fight in the UFC for the next 15 years and still probably not make what he will in 1 night of boxing. He doesn't give 2 decks about the outcome it's not his sport anyway.

There's very likely some sort of agreement to make it appear competitive or even go the full route. McGregor has less than 0.2% chance of winning and obviously he knows this it's just a money grab. Mayweather needed McGregor as much as McGregor needed him and here's why; Floyd isn't interested in real boxing matches and certainly not challenging opponents (Crawford, Spence, Thurman, GGG etc;) so to fight Berto and his like Showtime and his promotional team may lose money. Also let's say Floyd makes $200m to McGregor's $100m he needs than $200m more than Conor needs that $100m with all his debts, back taxes, entourage, gambling etc;

So, it's very likely with McGregor's ego he has gone into this one with some guarantee he isn't embarrassed. I'm sure he's fine taking a guaranteed loss but with stipulations. Floyd is all about protecting his "0" so the misinformed can say he's the best of all-time and he gives absolutely zero shits about entertaining anybody. I sort of think he makes his fights deliberately boring so that he discourages you from watching other boxing so that he can say "Oh well Boxing died with me. I'm the only guy people would pay to see" etc; Massive egomaniac prick that he is.

Yep, this is how I read it. There's really no other reason for this match-up apart from making money and sadly they will because fans will pay for this shit. Boxing really needs to move away from this PPV model to something more sustainable for the sport.

The problem they've got is there is to many titles/promoters/companies in boxing to move away from it completely.

Companies like the UFC have a monopoly on MMA, WWF has it on wrestling so they can afford to make their own network (albeit UFC doesn't put live PPV on theirs), boxing can't really do that. Al Haymon is trying with PBC and we have Box Nation in the UK but both aren't really working great compared to something like Matchroom's Sky Box Office numbers or a card like this in the states. YOu even say it yourself, people will pay for it so why would boxing move away from it? The other methods people are trying aren't working.

Cant stand neither. They just promote this to fill their pockets and people will pay into it. Anyhow, I hope Floyd knocks him out badly but that wont stop Conor's big mouth I'm afraid

Seems trash-talking is a bigger sin than woman-beating, judging by those looking for a Mayweather victory.

I'm not sure about that. Seems a bit of a sudden conclusion to jump to.

I think plenty of people try not to get themselves worked up over a celebrities private life to that extent...equally a load of people in here have brought up Floyds past.

This. We are mainly discussing the outcome of the fight here, as for private lives of sportsmen (including Giggsy), it is not much of my business.

The glove weight is such a non issue. 90% of mayweathers fights he's wore 8oz gloves

That is because he fought at welterweight and under for most of his career. In boxing 154lb fights are generally 10z. It is definitely an advantage for the bigger man who is supposed to be a big puncher. Surprised Floyd agreed to it.

Yep. He has taken it to a new level imo.

A new level? Think that is OTT. How many respected boxing historians would even have him in the top ten off all time? Very few I would imagine. There are more skilled fighters out there at the moment IMO. Obviously Floyd career is unmatched by any other active fighter but that is as much for his out of ring nous as much as his skill in the ring. If you are talking about beating 'the game' then yes he has taken it to a new level.

Looking purely at skills, Floyd is absolutely top 5 all time.

8oz gloves favours Floyd seeing as McGregor won't land. If Floyd had 8oz gloves against Cotto, he probably would have stopped him.

I don't really follow boxing but i'd like to. Anyone more skilled fighters to recommend at the moment?

Basically 0. Realistically, he probably wouldn't be in respected historians top 20 either. He's great, but as you said it's more he figured the game out better than what he's accomplished in terms of ring achievements/boxing history.

Great defensive fighter, not a great offensive one, but overall masterful ring IQ and decision making mean his talent equates to one of the better ones of recent years and probably top 20-20 all-time all-around fighters but his resume/ring accomplishments are lacking though his longevity and consistency isn't.

Expert matchmaking and timing but to give some examples of guys I'd make even money or favored to beat him in mythical match ups at his weight classes (not going beyond the 70's)
Super Featherweight - Lomachenko, Chavez,
Lightweight - Whitaker, Chavez, Duran (would kill him)
Junior welterweight - Benitez, Pryor, Crawford, Tszyu, Pacquaio (styles make fights)
Welterweight - Leonard, Hearns (decapitation), Trinidad, Napoles, Curry, Pacquaio
Junior middleweight - Trinidad, Hearns, McCallum, Norris

Not all those guys I'd consider greater but I'd give them 50/50 chances or better. Yes, Pacquaio around 2009-2012 I'd favor over him. I don't put any stock into what happened in 2015.

You must really hate Floyd lol

The only guy I might favour over Floyd is Hearns at 47/54, cause of the styles match-up and size difference. Even then, if there was money on the line, I'd probably end up putting it on Floyd. No one else would I favour against Floyd.

A big thing for me is that we don't know how great he is when he's truly tested. Part of the reason we never found that out is because he's been dominant (not his fault) and also because he's been very picky about who he fights and when. There's a ton of opponents he either fought when it was longer the contest it would have been (Pacquaio still made money and was mainstream but was no longer a great Boxing match) and that was most defiantly his fault/choice.

The few times he was really tested gave me mixed results - Jose Luis Castillo I I felt he lost that fight (as do many), Maidana (who lets face it shouldn't be pushing him that close) being examples that I'd be hesitant picking him to come through when the going gets tough against skilled fellow greats. His hesitance to truly test himself vs. prime opponents and/or need for every possible advantage leads me to believe he doesn't have total confidence in himself. That's part of the reason I can't rank him in that top 20-30 all-time but I understand that's my policy and others are different. Still stands that next to no historians would rank him top 10-20.

From a technical standpoint I simply don't think he has the offense to really discourage warriors like Duran, Chavez, Hearns, Leonard. Whitaker is even better defensively than him and a southpaw (Floyd has always had a fear of southpaws dating back to his reluctance to face Casmayor and Stevie Johnston).

There isn't a chance this is fixed, there's no benefit to either fighter to do this.
Conor has ridiculous self belief and he'll see this as a chance at immortality. Asking Floyd to carry him is a bitch move quite frankly.
Conor will aquire as much mass as he can (lol) so he can bully Floyd in the clinch and walk through Floyds pillow hands to limit his arsenal.
It won't work of course but its more likely than a two weight mma champ asking a much smaller man to fecking carry him

It is hard for any fighter in this era to have careers like the greats simply because top fighters fight a lot less these days.

I'd put Floyd in my top 10, but it could have been higher had he not avoided so many fights when they were on the table. I don't believe he was lacking the confidence but he was and is more about protecting his record than testing himself to the limit. He just didn't want to risk losing. He's not the only one, Calzaghe also valued his '0' so much yet his legacy fights were Lacey and Bute?!! No way would I have had him beating Roy Jones Jr or Hopkins at their prime for example.

Mayweather's fight v Pacman happened 10 years too late.
