Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather | Again?

This is even worse than i imagined, what an embarrassment to boxing.

I still like McGregor and find is stuff funny, maybe it's a bit childish but I dunno it's just a bit of light relief and I suppose it is a throwback to the days I used to watch WWF and found that entertaining. I just think people take these press conferences way to seriously over analysing them every time, they're just a bit of a laugh. I'm curious as to why people criticise them as well? We all knew it would be like this, Dana White himself said it will be a "shit show" so why are people surprised now? It was streamed on YouTube, if you don't want to watch it then don't watch it...similar to the fight I think plenty of people will slag it off but I reckon plenty of them will pay for the eventual fight.

You see I despise his press conferences for the same reason you enjoy them! I watched WWE when I was in primary school but find the whole thing deeply embarrassing now. The less that pantomime stuff creeps into genuinely competitive sports the better IMO.

To each his own, though. That's just a matter of taste. Did McGregor really say "dance for me, boy" to Mayweather though? That does seem to cross a line. Whatever you think of his antics.

Hope Floyd knocks him out even more.

But McGregor wears a suit very well, I will give him that.

I just don't get why. It's a freak show fight sure but to suggest it's an embarrassment I don't quite agree with. It'll do way over 1 million buys. Floyd is a semi-retired fighter who holds no builts and has his own promotion so it's not holding anyone, any belt or any organisation up and Conor is clearly a huge name in sport.

Boxing has the biggest fight possible a month later and after this is done I doubt anyone will be that arsed about it really.

Haha yeah true I think it depends on your views on the stuff now. I can't watch WWE now I just think it's a bit silly (again each to their own) but I do quite like the throwback of it with McGregor. People not liking it is fair enough, it's bound to happen. Maybe I'm guilty of reading to much into stuff myself but sometimes it seems people get genuinely annoyed buy the whole thing yet continue to watch which just seems strange. I stopped watching The Walking Dead cos I thought it was shit, it seems strange to me to watch something that you dislike.

Equally I like the guy and his story of coming from nothing and getting this big in the space of 4 or so years, it's genuinely quite an inspiring story I think and I do find it quite nice to see especially as he obviously enjoys it as well and at times now he still seems taken back by the whole thing. The 1st press conference when he's on stage on his own he looks pretty amazed by it all. I dunno I just think it's good to see.

I've not seen the 2nd press conference but he did say it in the first one. In fairness though Mayweather at the time was shadow boxing right in front of him. I don't think it was meant in an untasteful way but yeah it could be taken that way.

The fight will be such a let down and these conferences are just cringeworthy. I wont watch or pay money for that

Where's all the "Mayweather schooled him" eejits now?

Oh dear

Mayweather comfortably came out on top in the first and the second was pretty even, as expected McGregor learned from the first one and stepped it up for the second. None of McGregor's antics work on Mayweather though like they have other fighters in the past. He loves it because he's all about the money. Even McGregor ripping him about not being able to read, Mayweather took it on the chin and came back with "I'm not about the words, I'm a numbers man".

Seems quite clear that they're saving up the Mayweather female abuse stuff for the final conference.

Well, nobody cares what you think, though. Most people are in it for the fun, not for the actual fight itself. You're an extremely small minority.

McGregor is an embarrassment.

McGregor is the antithesis of classy. I wouldn't be one to stereotype, but a study of McGregor's fanbase is the closest I've seen to a hive mentality with McGregor their Queen Bee. They lap up everything he tosses their way and is never, ever wrong about anything. Ever.

Quite peculiar to say the least.
Agreed x2

I know the fight will probably be a joke but I expected the pressers to have been amazing. But it's god awful. Going to the Wembley one... hopefully they go all at it then.

You could say the exact same thing about his naysayers & detractors.

Constantly harping on about him, only coming at it from the opposite angle.

He's this, he's that... not gonna watch his presser's, his fights yet they always have a comment to make about said presser's & fights. They're never wrong either.

That in a way could be said to be even more peculiar.

I think it probably comes down to some inate form of jealousy.

To deny his star and his abilities is just ignorance. I don't necessarily like him but his confidence in himself fascinates me, far too many reporters ask the same questions over and over and no one tries to dive a bit deeper into his mind.

I'd really rather not see press conferences for this farcical bullshit. Unfortunately, Sky Sports news keep showing it because they are under some illusion that this nonsense is sport.

When Sky Sports start showing Cricket, Horse racing, F1 or any other shit I don't like or have interest in I don't watch it.

Are you not able to do the same?

Switch it off then. You'll be watching like everybody else when the fight happens.

If I had 20million dollars I'd bet 19million on Floyd, but there is a small window of opportunity for mcgregor when Floyd is trying to figure out Conor's movements, if conor strikes then and gets inside he'll cause damage. Personally, I think mayweather could probably take mcgregors best shot plush on the chin and stay standing, the right hand he took from Mosley was as powerful as anything conor could throw and mayweather held on for a few seconds then recovered and dominated.

This is like a professional figure skater going to compete in the Stanley cup finals of the NHL, but it's watchable and all the soundbites are unique enough for me to keep it interesting. Plus, for anyone who's bothered, we are getting the analysis of Paulie Malignaggi who hits the nail on the head every time he speaks, he's an excellent commentator.

If it had a dedicated channel I certainly wouldn't ever have it on. However, I watch Sky Sports News because I'm interested in hearing news about sport. It becomes a bit wearing to have to keep turning the tv off 3 or 4 times an hour simply to avoid having to see 2 nauseating, money-grabbing assholes playing out a pantomime for gullible idiots.

50/1 odds for the fight to be finished in under a minute if anybody fancies a punt

I don't buy that excuse.

It's not that deep.

That's a lot of denial if ever I saw it.

I suggest you need to go outside for a bit if your biggest gripe is having to turn SSN over a few times an hour.
That's a lot of SSN!

All in all this is a glorified exhibition, I don't know why people are so down on it.
I don't even consider this a boxing match TBH.

The publicity tour really is cringeworthy, like some knock-off WWE horseshit.

Agreed. They should've just stuck to the original format. This 4 day tour is a bit OTT. Having said that, I've tuned into every one so far

As have most.

I'm just wondering if mcgregor is saving the wife beating stuff or if he's signed in his contract he won't mention it, it's literally all he needs to say to win the press conference fights.

"Why you fighting me Floyd, ain't you got some girls to beat up" or something to that effect and it's over.

What's your prediction for the fight @rocks13
It's hard to call as I haven't seen how its been scripted yet. I've heard The Undertaker will be helping Mayweather but then again the producers are currently in negotiations with He-man and Conan the Barbarian to be on Mcgregor's team so it's really difficult to predict.

You haven't knocked out anyone in 20 years, even your wife took you to a decision.

Mayweather wins and it won't have been scripted though. McGregor will have been found out and is only the bollix etc etc you and the Bee's from the other Hive have been saying all along. ''Didn't I tell ye so....''

Is it any wonder he's rolling in it.

You seem to be under some misapprehension that I'm a Mayweather fan. I'm simply one of a very large number of people who think that this is an overhyped piece of nonsense which is an embarrassment to the name of sport.

The "that was cringey" and "embarrassing" comments are weird. The actual fight is bollocks but the McGregor just delivered with that presser.

Most entertaining boxing press conference I've seen in a long time.

Semi retired boxer against a glorified thug. I feel a bit sorry for serious boxers who haven't made it when I see the money these two are getting.

Mayweather is a better boxer, McGregor is a better human being, the fight is a joke, the build up is a circus. However, you can quite easily avoid as much of that as you want to. I mean I get not liking it but I don't get going out of your way to engage with something you dislike. It's not in any way important so just ingore it if it's that annoying.
