Such a poor answer Liam, on many, many levels. Especially given what TB did with his, which I can now say was generally excellent. He had many flaws, but his forward thinking, approach with time, social attitudes and the knowledge that none of this would be easy or quick to do, was brilliant.

Reasonable point about the warlords knowledge but it would still take some adjusting to incorporate all of what the warlord knows with all that you know.
Don't underestimate all the tribes of Africa, some were not as developed, but others did have a variety of skill sets and has already been laid out this could be anywhere in Africa from Egypt to the South. Even in a society that maybe just had some basic skills like agriculture, hunting, maybe some low level metal smithing, some level of medicine, there would be experts in each field.
So you believe Social Attitudes are something that only applies to modern living.....Social Attitudes exist any place there is in fact a Society......no matter how advance it is or isn't.

Depends on the part of Africa they are in right? I have heard some of it has jungle which would imply some trees, which would imply well wood.
Charcoal filters are a piece of piss to make, your water might taste a bit burnt though.
This is a nation-wide solution? There is a reason why dirty water persists being a problem to this day. Proper filtration methods on a national scale are expensive and complex constructs.

How hard would it be to send a few tradesmen east? Get some knowledge of the gun-powder. I took Familiarize himself in the sense that he's taking stock of the situation he's in. Yes, you do assume the entire body and mind of the warlord, but you might still have to assess everything before acting, it's not like you just jump up and start pointing at things and making shit happen.
So it's undeveloped and uncivilized, do you think there were no Africans capable of specifying particular fields in areas they are better in? Are they all mindless zombies who just act as one, unified mind and think and act the same? Of course you are going to have people better in different fields, and it takes a good mind to recognize and nurture that.

- Criticized TB's part on changing the roles of women in society, despite him saying these things could take upto years to achieve.
- Talked about developing weapons. What weapons? Melee weapons? Can you be anymore vague in your answer? How are you going to develop armour? And than with these mysterious weapons, you achieve expansion and more resources. Again, it can't be more vague.
Most of your plan isn't actually a plan you've made for anything, it's mostly just criticizing, or praising TB's plan.

Your a warlord, so first you should be a good at war as you can. Take all your men, divide them into four. Take your four most trusted warriors and make them leaders of these 4 units. Infantry, Artillery, Calvary and Engineers. Each of these groups must be divided by their respective commanders in smaller groups, with a commander of their own, forming a chain of command ending with you.
Get the infantry steel weapons, some proper armour and shields. Have the artillery craft bows and some light armour (leather, heavy pelts) if possible use trade links to get yew tree wood (it's fairly common in north-west Africa) to make the bows about 6 feet in hieght, get them to train religiously, you want them able to fire 3-4 a minute then increase to 6. Calvary need to be trained to ride horses and fight on horse back preferably using short bows or spear. Engineers will be taught to fight with spears and and axes (halberds), until you can hire/abduct a few Italians to make proper siege weaponry.
Your warband is now the most technologically advanced fighting force in Africa and on par with any army in the known world, with some practise, you will be effective until the adoption of the firearm in around 400 years time.
