Kendrick, Jay Rock, Game, fearing for Kanye a little bit. I think that Pusha is dropping a new album as well.

Yeezy season approaching. He debuted the first track from his new album at some event for the shoes he's launching. It's titled Wolves and features Vic Mensa and Sia.

Also, I think I read the funniest post ever on reddit with regards the event...
I really hope Kanye comes out looking like this

and dances to this and then leaves.

I'm halfway through new Drake, and it's probably my favourite release from him in a long time. I'm not nearly as big a Drake fan as I was, I loved So Far Gone and Thank Me Later.

Three good mates of mine produced this, with one of their mates doing the vocals. I'm interested to hear people's opinions... Personally I think it's great but I am biased.

Drake has really shit handwriting doesn't he? The Riff Raff, Chief Keef and Skepta shout-out's in the liner notes intrigued me though.

Solid tape. Nothing more or less. Most important thing is this album releases him from Birdman and Lil Wayne's label, so it'll be interesting to see how that affects his "real" next LP, Views from the 6.

I don't think the label has ever influenced what Drake has ever done, ever. The interesting part is him aligning with Lil Wayne in this Cash Money divorce. I'm also very sceptical as to whether Drake using a mixtape for retail will actually fulfill his 4 allotted Cash Money albums, Birdman has been ripping people off for decades and it is not that easy at all.

As for the tape, the production is great but the raps are mostly boring and formulaic, he doesn't really extend himself until 6pm in New York.

Not directly, but you hear his pre-Cash Money tapes, and compare them to the 3 albums, and there is a dramatic shift in sound and subject matter. It's hard to deduce how much of the change was due to him aligning with a primarily hit factory label, I agree, but my blind guess is probably some of the shift was influenced by them. Lil Wayne has been bitching for months so it's not too crazy to see both of them aligning together against Birdman.

From what I hear, Drake took care of himself in contract negotiations unlike the likes of Juvenile and Mannie Fresh, so I think he'll be able to detach without too much hassle. Lil Wayne on the other hand...

The label would still have to ok it though wouldn't they, you can't just upload an album to iTunes willy nilly. Also I've always thought Drake's had a pretty consistent and distinct sound with 40 behind it all, I think any changes have always been down to artist development and personal growth and in reality Drake's subject matter has always been very limited but he's good at what he does. I guess there was more rapping at first but then he progressed more into songwriting.

Starting with Beyonce, a lot of artists are doing this upload the album and shock people thing. I can't imagine the labels not okaying it to some degree, but Cash Money is a different animal.

Looking at the track lists for his first 3 albums, 40 wasn't credited until So Far Gone, his first mixtape that featured Cash Money. Boi1da was there from the beginning. I would say that from So Far Gone onwards his sound progression has been steady and measured, but IMO there is a huge culture shock between the first 2 and the rest of his discography. But I'll hold my hands up and say assuming that jump is due to Cash Money is speculation and may be erroneous. A lot of money did flow in after So Far Gone, and that changes almost everyone's sound.

But yeah. Second play and IYRTITL is a meh album.

Yeah I'd say that he found his direction by So Far Gone, he'd known 40 since before then but that was the first time he utilised 40 as a producer. A lot rappers start off all over the place I mean Kendrick when I first heard him is nearly unrecognisable to what he's doing now. For me it's one of the joys of rap, following someone grow and develop, eventually you outgrow most of the rappers you love *looks at 50 Cent and Lil' Wayne* but boy is it fun to watch them become great.

Nope, didn't like the last three tracks. Other than that it was good.

Three of the best songs on the tape!

What did he say?

@Tyga

I heard a lil lil homie talking reckless in Vibe
Quite a platform you chose, you shoulda kept it inside
Oh you tried, its so childish calling my name on the world stage
You need to act your age and not your girl's age

In refrence to Tyga's girldfriend Kylie Jenner, who just turned 17 :lol:

@Diddy

Shaq postin' up on n*ggas that I used to have posters of
Real quick man, you couldn't have hated that
Let's be real n*gga you couldn't have made it that

In reference to Diddy apparently hitting him over the fact that Drake 'stole' the 0-100 beat.

@ birdman

Brand new Beretta, can't wait to let it go
Walk up in my label like, where the check though?
Yeah I said it, wouldn't dap you with the left ho

Obviously everything going on between Wayne and Birdman and the fact that Drake dropped this on iTunes to basically get out of his deal with CM.

Running through different videos on youtube while drunk yesterday lead me to the first track I've heard from J Cole (iirc), worth re-posting as both The Come Up and Friday Night Lights had some killer tracks on them.
