College Football 2009

Teams will still complain about a playoff system, and it will certainly take a lot of luster off big regular season games. It would be interesting to see how it turns out

How would it take the luster off a regular season match? If you only take the top 4 or 6 teams for a play off every game would still certainly matter. Plus those playoff matches would be huge. Nobody other than gambling junkies give a crap about the majority of games anyway. Prime example, anyone catch Cal v Washington last night? How about USC v Arizona? Might be a couple that watched that one as is was on a major network.. Both involved top 25 teams.

Non-playoff proponents always cry "the regular season is a playoff." Really... then how did LSU get in the national title game with two losses?

How did Oklahoma manage to get in the national title game and didn't even win their conference?

How do all these undefeated "small" schools get left out when they won every "playoff" game on their schedule but because they aren't in the "big boy club" (i.e. elitist) category, they get shut out?

All these points render "the regular season is a playoff" argument as BULLSHIT. Clutching straws.

Absolutely shocked the U will come back wish him well. He knew his shit.

I thought you thought Tebow was shit...better coach than Mac Cheese, the only better coach in college is probably douchebag at Bama and Carroll

Alex, that post makes no sense. How do you compare me saying Meyer will miss Tebow to me saying he's shit? Which I don't recall ever saying Tebow is shit, but I do think he's the media's glamor boy and probably not a pro QB.

And why the shot at Mack Brown? I've never rated him. Upset Texas is such a great school perhaps?

You're a bizarre one.

i just think you are a bit too much of longhorn fan that you have been blinded by how good meyer. That said I think rooting against you will make January 7th an enjoyable evening

What the feck are you on about? I have never once said anything negative about Meyer. Do you not comprehend sarcasm and jokes?

They certainly will try, especially Kiffin and Saban but Meyer's track record speaks for itself.

No doubt he's a good coach but wouldn't you just sell it as 'Meyer probably won't be back. Just come to (insert school here)'. I'd think FSU and Miami have the most to gain here.

When I heard this news yesterday, that was the first thing I thought, Miami have the most to gain

If he really does step down, I think Bob Stoops might be first name on the list of replacements. That said, I don't think he'll leave OU.

Florida could do no worse than hiring Chris Peterson. But I have a good feeling the NCAA may be bringing the pain down on USC soon, so I wonder if Carroll might be ready to move to something new. Unless he's itching at a return to the NFL.

Does anyone on here pay attention to college basketball?

I have most years. This one I've been a bit out of touch with. I used to be a college hoops nut a few years ago. I still say NCAA tourney is one of the best times of the year in sports.

Carrol might be a risky coach at that school. Could bring back the days of Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson.

Anyone see the ESPN special, The U?

I haven't seen the U yet, but i did catch the preview that ESPN had online for a while looks great.

I saw it liked it, I have enjoyed a couple of those films they have made, havent seen that many, might get them all when they come out on dvd if they do

I never realized just how close Miami were to three or even five in a row. The "fumble" was a major error by the officials.

Nebraska came close to a similar run in the mid 90s.

Yeah although the one they shared with Michigan(who incidentally I also dislike) in 97' was a joke and more of sympathy vote for Osbourne anyway

Well......we lost the 86 NC game v Penn State, won the 87 NC over Oklahoma, were a two point conversion against ND away from going undefeated the following year. Won the Sugar Bowl over Bama in 89, Lost two in 90, Won the NC in 91, lost the NC game in 92 v Alabama, Lost 2 in 93, Lost against Nebraska in 94. That's an incredible run

I hate Miami but Notre Dame crying about running up the score is laughable. They run it up on teams all the time....well a few years ago anyway......and hardly a peep.

The U is worth a look. My favorite were the interviews with Lamar Thomas. You really do forget how bad they were and how good they got. And fast.

Nebraska destroyed Tennessee who were a superior team to the Washington State side that Michigan barely beat. Not a joke but I'm sure Osborne's career earned him some votes in the coaches poll. Nowhere near the joke of say two loss LSU earning a national title game invite.

Nebraska were playing so great in the last few weeks of the season after that Missouri game that I'd have wagered on them hammering Michigan in a title/playoff game.

Nebraska were a missed FG in 93 and a loss to Texas in 96 away from five straight national championships. Florida got to the 96 title game (vs FSU) because Texas beat Nebraska in the Big 12 title game. FSU had beat Florida earlier that season and were undefeated.

Ahh yes, the 1985 game against Notre Dame. Remember it well. Bob Trumpy of NBC Sports suggested that JJ was trying to deliberately run up the score on Notre Dame. It was great.

Nice to see Bowden go out with a win.

On to OSU-Oregon. Pulling for Oregon. I'm an ASU grad so I'd like to see the PAC10 do well.

I'm a bit disappointed in Oregon here. I know OSU has been tough on defense all year but Oregon just can't get anything going. No rhythm.

They have been close to getting things going, but yeah in general I thought it would be a fairly highscoring game but I guess there is still a quarter to go

Again, disappointing night for Oregon. Why needing 10 points did they not go for it on 4th and 1? Stupid.

Oh well. Now I'll get to here how great the Big 10 is for months. I'd expect Penn State and OSU to be in the top 5 pre season next year.
