College Football 2009

That's why you never know in most rivalry matches. I have no idea how A&M managed to create so much offense. I think it's a combination of Johnson being so mobile (like a Vince Young back there) and having tall receivers that run great routes. I also have a suspicion their receivers used stick-um on their gloves with some of the catches they made seeming near impossible. Biggest offensive game and most points combined in the history of the rivalry. Texas should knock off Nebraska though we'll see some defense in that game most likely.

How about:

Alabama lose to Auburn
Then Florida beats them in 2 weeks
Then TCU plays Florida in the natl. title

And TCU WINS !!!

Bama-Texas is what it looks like it is going to be

SEC fans already talking up Alabama when moments ago they were wanting Florida. I could never root for a rival. Only the lame ass SEC does this. Mind boggling. I could never imagine a Michigan fan rooting for Ohio State so they can claim the Big Ten (plus one) as the best. Lame.

Shit first quarter for Texas. Suddenly it's as if McCoy can't read a defense. Two interceptions already, although one was a batted pass by DL that went up in the air. He lost the Heisman already IMO, regardless of outcome.

Probably going to be Ingram from Alabama I'd guess now. Too bad defensive players rarely get a look. Suh looks like the best player in the NCAA.

I never realized just how fast this Nebraska defense is. Too bad their offense is about as potent as Liverpool's attack.

The defenses dominated. Nebraska's best offensive player is their kicker and he can boom it long. Nebraska has played the best so far and still are losing.

If you could add a couple of these Nebraska defenders to the Texas defense, the Horns would be virtually unstoppable.

True. If Nebraska can keep Texas under 17 points they have a chance. otherwise it's probably to much to ask.

Wow. Nebraska just went to a new freshman QB. Wonder if he's a runner or option QB to mix things up.

McCoy's passes have been woeful today. Overthrowing receivers all over the place. Some may be intentional with the coverage.

Texas up 10-6 late in the third.

What a stupid play call and decision by McCoy. There was :01 left when the ball landed so correct decision to put one second back.

Final kick... BCS mess or Texas in the national title?

Oh well. Looks like Alabama v Texas. Too bad for Nebraska. That play right before the FG was totally bizarre. What the hell kind of play call was that?!?!?! Shocking. Would have loved to have seen a Cinci or TCU get in.

How is TCU going to leapfrog Texas?

BCS bowl projections - ESPN

The real tragedy would be the bowls forcing TCU to play Boise State instead of allowing TCU to play Florida. I'd prefer the below but it won't happen because of "tradition" (really it spells "money")...

BCS Title: Alabama vs Texas
Rose: Cincinnati vs Ohio State
Fiesta: Boise State vs Georgia Tech
Orange: Iowa vs Oregon
Sugar: Florida vs TCU

In my playoff system, the division winners from each conference get in the playoff. I'd merge/add/subtract schools so that every conference has 12 schools. Iowa State to the Big Ten (renamed the Big North), Boise State and Utah to PAC-10 (renamed PAC-12), Army, Navy, Notre Dame and Temple to the Big East, Colorado State to Big 12, which leaves 24 schools in the Sun Belt, Mountain West and WAC to figure out a way to make two conferences of 12 schools each. I would much prefer Notre Dame in the Big North but they'd balk at going to a conference where they could finish in the bottom perennially. So they'd join the Big East. TCU would probably balk at joining the Big 12 since they dominate the Mountain West. Same with possibly desiring Cincinnati in the Big North since they are dominating the Big East currently.

That's 10 conferences so that's 20 playoff spots. Just need 4 at large bids, most likely 3rd place schools from Big 12, SEC, Big North and PAC-10. But perhaps a formula could be developed so that when one of those conferences slips up, they lose a spot the following year (like how UEFA determines CL spots). 24 team playoff.

Scrap the conference championship games. However, the system could take the top 6 rated conferences and give them 12 spots, while the bottom four rated conferences hold a championship to get 4 spots. 16 team playoff.

Scrap the conference championship games.

Certainly agree with this. How is it right that the #3 team in the nation knows they will play for the national title before the last week of the season is over (assuming they win)? Essentially Florida was punished (severely) by having an extra game. I think the BCS was an improvement over the previous system but a playoff is still the best solution.
