Does he have no sense of loyalty? Does our messing him around for large parts of last summer count for NOTHING?

I’ve a good mind to send him a supportive, but also quite insulting, call to arms via Instagram DM.

Is he going to pay the money himself?
don’t be pathetic

he’ll kick up a fuss to the hierarchy and demand that he is signed, it’s been known for months he wants him if our biggest rivals take him from under our noses, ETH won’t be happy whatsoever

So you buy a player for 2 months? For £37m? Doesn’t really make sense. If you buy him it’s because Klopp sees him as part of the team long term.
He's likely replacing Firmino long term, who will probably be shipped out in the summer. There's similarities in their games and Gakpo can probably fill that role quite well for Liverpool.

Hands up if you weren’t bothered about him up until you heard he was going to Liverpool, now you’re desperate to see him in a Utd shirt? Can’t be just me….

Haha yeah, it’s always the way. But, honestly, I wasn’t sure about him.

Absolutely

As a PSV supporter, it would really be dissapointing if we let him go for 42 mln euro. PSV always stated that for Cody to leave, a transfer-record must be broken (45 mln for Lozano). And that was BEFORE the World cup.

Don’t see him leave for less then 50mln

It made no sense for us to sign another left sided forward. Maybe ten Hag saw him as a player he thought he could develop as a second striker?

But for us it makes much more sense to develop Garnacho and carry on with Rashford as the left sided forward.

It’s also hilarious how so many on here turn their noses up at a player until a rival club is interested then suddenly the player in question turns world class and we’re a bunch of incompetent bastards for not getting the deal done. I’m sure people were saying the exact same when they signed Nunez, were we wrong for not outbidding them on that one? Obviously every scenario isn’t the same but I’m not too convinced with this guy either.

Well that's ridiculous because he's a player the manager desired in the summer. Fans don't sign players the club does, it's a reflection of a poor hierarchy if an agreement is in place with the players agent and nothing materialises with a bid.

Fairly sure it will reach €50m including addons if the base fee is £37m

How the sentiment about him has changed now Liverpool are supposedly signing him

Take a look at City’s squad
Yea I'll never understand the argument that having loads options is a problem or detriment

We've watched City dominate the league for years rotating quality after quality player.

The best sides in our history each had at least 4 top class forwards in the team

my post was, of course, tongue in cheek…

Despite the offer, Liverpool still have a bit of distance to cover:

Gakpo-Liverpool: first offer of 42M€ but PSV asks for 50/55M€. Talks between the clubs will move quickly in search of a definitive agreement. Optimism.

I'm sure VVD will have been working on him throughout the world cup, just like Trent and Henderson did with Bellingham.

I can see him doing really well there. They excel at getting these circa £40m players who are on the cusp of exploding and who are good scorers. The relative cheap price means less pressure, less likely to fail etc.

Will be interested to see how he does there and where he plays, coming from someone who’s on the record not to sign him.

Bit bizarre if that amount is true. If we seriously don't sign anyone next month  :nervous: we must have other plans, to not get the player who clearly wants to come and the manager clearly wants?

We're apparently also skint with owners looking to sell. Might be pretty mundane reasons not to sign anyone

This will be surprising considering all the smoke around United and Gakpo. I hope this is okay with Ten Hag.
As I’ve said, club needs sold before we can take the Ten Hag project too seriously.

Either it's a move to force our hand, or we've decided he's not the right target at this time and moved onto somebody else.
