He’s got the same agent as ETH so if personal terms have been agreed then he can rest easy knowing the transfer will be wrapped up. United are allowing him to play the last qualifier to avoid distractions and media around it until after.

That's some insight you have there.

I never gets fans speaking with such assurance on transfers.

If United get Antony and de Jong you still think we'll get Gakpo?

Olise at Crystal Palace looks a real player. Can play either wing and is left-footed. Hope we can sell them AwB for a reasonable price to sweeten the deal.

Read the message properly, I’ve said “if” I don’t have any insight and just going by media reports and what Romano has said over the last ten days or less about the transfer. It makes sense having the same agent as the manger that assurances have been given and not to distract the player with them until after the game.

Again this is not me having insight, it’s an opinion.

From literally all Dutch sources on the matter. I haven’t “pulled” anything from anywhere.
It only takes one story which could be b/s and for a lot of others to repeat it .
All I have read is that personal terms would not be a problem but that is just a throw away line anyway!
Which one is your best reputed source that states it has been agreed?

Can't believe the price would really be <£40m, but might be worth a punt if it is. Not totally sure he could step up but he has some ability. A bit like Rashford tbh.

Considering what we paid for Amad, the quoted figures for a Dutch footballer of the year seems like a very good deal.

He has played 7 games as a striker in his career and he is 23. He has played the rest of the games as a LF/LW. If he can’t make it as a winger what makes you think he is going to make it as a striker?

So? I`m not saying he is a striker currently. I'm suggesting that he will have more impact in the PL as striker. I think he will have similar issues as Depay on the wing. However, he is a bigger lad, has decent movement and has a knack for 1-2 touches and shooting. Given time, just might be converted into a good central player.

If we get Antony, there is no reason to get Gakpo. Rather invest that money on a no 9 option, ideally a younger player that won't mind sitting on the bench and rotating. There's still options like Joao Pedro who we could get at a lower fee than likely for Gakpo. In addition, he can also play on the RW for us, so gives the more squad more options than another LW. He's young, EPL proven and talented. This makes sense but looks like Newcastle are trying to secure a deal

It doesn't ring true to me that. I don't think it's actually been confirmed by anyone either. Just journalists guessing.

Gakpo would be doing his nut if that were the case.

Possibly missing out on a transfer to United so he can play four games for Feyernord.

We'll see I suppose.
Gakpo is an immensely committed player and has a great mentality. He’ll be very comfortable I’m sure with playing the final play off.

He wants to help PSV qualify regardless of any move because it’s the kind of player he is and personally I think that’s admirable.

Everything I’ve seen and heard would suggest this gets done once that game is played if we have genuine interest.

It would also makes sense that maybe we lose Ronaldo in this process but this is me speculating.

I think this is the closest deal to happening next. Waiting for after tomorrow to make it official. Think we get Gakpo and Antony. ETH made it known that he needs more players with how many games there are. He wants the flexibility to go

Gakpo-Martal-Antony on Thursday in Europa

Elanga-Rashford-Sancho on Sunday

Elanga is Europa League level.

Martial is going to be a starter for us in the league this season. Elanga will not be.

The way ETH talked about winger targets at Ajax I assume he wants Gakpo for his ability to play as a 9 (kinda) too. But then it only makes sense if Ronaldo actually leaves to spend 130-150 million euros to have 4 wingers to choose from, while other areas have way less luxury in their choices right now. Especially since ETH isn’t afraid to deploy Bruno on the left as a Ziyech type, either

Rik Elfrink is a PSV correspondent and among the very best reporters for the club. And he's saying that United have more or less reached a personal deal with the players agent, but a fee with PSV has not yet been agreed.

The below tweet is from yesterday.

I can confirm this. The best actually, the only one with actual insights. Would be very surprised if he doesn't go to United. CL or not.

Honestly if you see Rashford play like this and Martials preseason then I have no idea why United would spend money on Gakpo. He is not better than any of them now, he does not have more potential (unlike Antony) and he's also not used to Hag ball (unlike Antony). Moreover PSV obviously have gotten some kind of Ajax fever too. They're not going to let him go cheaply after seeing United splashing crazy money on Martinez (and probably Antony). They are also going to ask crazy money (and they should).

If Ten Hag had completely given up on Rashford I could somehow see the logic in it. However given that Rashford was in the team today and also played really well, this just doesn't make sense to me at all.
This is the problem. It’s probably the first time Rashford has played well in over a year. He’s honestly been that bad. For us to gamble and think this will continue is a huge risk.

Rashford needs to perform against teams who will sit deep and not give him a huge pitch to run in behind.

I just wanna this moment to highlight how knowledgeable @Adnan is on this forum, they're an asset to the CAF!

I know it looks strange just bolding just that, but if you see their posts all over the CAF it's always highly detailed and often come with evidence to back up their point.

We've agreed terms with the player. You mean the player who plays in a much smaller league on far less money? Hahahaha.

Of course agreeing wages wouldn't be an issue for us. I think these journalists and sources just make this stuff up knowing that Utd would of course not fail at personal terms so there's very little chance of being proven wrong.

Besides Rik Elfrink (who is indeed the best PSV watcher), today there was news from Marco Timmer that might be interresting. (https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/als-gakpo-vertrekt-wil-psv-nog-twee-aanvallers-aantrekken)

PSV is keen on signing Jesper Karlsson from AZ as replacement, however he is priced at around 25 mln euro’s. That might not seem much, but for PSV that is allmost double the price of their most expensive incoming transfer ever (which still is Mateja Kezman at 14 mln)

It is stated that PSV will only let Gakpo go for 50mln excl bonuses

Personal terms are not exclusively financial.

So potentially a 250mil pound spend this summer???
These cnuts are having a laugh!
More like 350m: c.115m already spent, then:
+ FDJ (70m)
+ Antony (80m)
+ Gakpo (35m)
=300m gross spent.

Then we also need a RB and a GK - so closer to 350m gross (but up to 50m can potentially be offset with sales and Loan fees, so think 300m net spent)

We’ve already spent more than this supposed budget of ours and we are clearly going to spend more so at this point it’s fair to say nobody can accurately cap our expenditure yet.

We have already spent c. 110m net including latest Casemiro purchase and accounting for Pereira sale income /a couple loan fees received.

Given Bailly is being sold and there is interest for Garner, we can very easily spend more than 100m more, so more or less Gakpo plus Antony/FDJ. And then it’s possible that more spending will be approved of, considering the situation we are in.

IMO Antony is the main target for the right wing and Gakpo is a Ronaldo replacement. If Ronaldo cant find another club we could either end up with both for a season or hold off on Gakpo.

How would this signing affect Garnacho development ?
If Garnacho is good enough, he will break through anyway. If he isn't/doesn't, we shake hands and move on. The club's footballing success comes first always.

Tadic was footballer of the year in the previous season and I don’t recall him doing much in England.

Do you think it's so binary? Its not FM.

Everyone requires coaching and player development. Why do you think United has such a history of producing academy players? There has never been any player to my memory at 17 that broke through and played immediately.
Giggs didn't break through immediately. He was played sparingly even though everyone at the Academy thought he would be the one. Even Messi wasn't played immediately nor consistently at 17/18y.o

Rooney was an exception but also he was at Everton. But he's an outlier.

Rashford broke through and played regularly, did he not? More out of necessity than anything. But I like how Van Gaal preferred a smaller squad to allow youngsters the chance to break through. Sink or swim. Gotta admire that given the pressure that managers are under to get results so quickly in this era of football.

Yes. But how many of his youngsters are still round? None if I remember correctly.

Either he was a poor judge of talent or I think he was such a systems guy that only certain profiles of players could fit with his philosophy.
