That's just the Dutch, who normally pronounce 'G' as 'H' when it's the first letter of a name (Gaal, Gullit, etc). Gakpo is a Togolese name so the proper pronunciation is 'Gakpo' with the 'G' sound.
Think he can play either LW/ST. Still young but has a good height might go down Cristiano/RvP route as wide forward transitioning into striker.
Sancho/Antony will play on the right, we have then Martial/Rashford/Gakpo on the left and ST spot in a fluid front 3. Not too different to Neres/Tadic/Ziyech forward three that ETH had initially at Ajax.
Elanga is not ready for me apart from cups and occasional injury crisis, whilst if we get both Gakpo and Antony IMO Cristiano is good as gone.
If/when Antony comes, I believe we will see Sancho on left wing a lot. Imagine Sancho and Antony on both sides, constant trickery and danger to opponents, it would be wasted potential not to play them both.
And Gakpo might play more centrally as a striker.
All in all it would be great to finally have so many quality options up front.

My guess is Gakpo would be replacing Ronaldo and we won't go for both if Ronaldo stays. Depth wise, if we get Antony, we'd have 6 players in the front 3 already without looking at young guys. Maybe Elanga out on loan and Ronaldo out with Gakpo in would make sense. Give a versatile group of 5 to play in any of the front 3 positions.

Oh really? Surprised to hear that. I could swear I hear Dutch commentators using that throaty 'H' sound all the time. A bit like how the Scousers pronounce the hard 'C' sound. I've heard them say 'H-akpo' too. Might just be how it sounds to the ears. But yeah, Gakpo is the G sound.

Basically something like this is what I think Ten Hag wants. Of course, some of the depth will basically be on the same level as starters and it's full competition/rotation based on form whereas others are more clear backup roles which is fine.

Well Rashford, a £60m+ rated player according to reports. But he obviously didn't use many more. Rashford was fortunate, but I'm sure if we were to give a player like garnacho a handful of starts in a row, he'd show his qualities I believe strongly in promoting young players and I think we have a great young crop coming through, having bought some of the best youngsters around Europe a few years ago.
It's becoming increasingly difficult to blood young players though, because of the pressures of short term success. Glazers demand CL football when a progressive owner would have priorities that lie elsewhere
Yeah of course, there was luck involved. But it was kind of luck by design because van gaal wanted a smaller squad and pathway for youngsters.
Id love to see garnacho get a similar opportunity. Garner too. We have some quality young players that I think would thrive among our other talented players. Sometimes I don't think we learn much from these loans they have, but I guess you just have to trust the coaches that see them train week in, week out.

I dunno. But he doesn't look like a striker to me at all.
I think we'll buy a striker next summer and make do with one of Martial/Ronaldo/Rashford this season.

Honestly I’m very excited at the prospect of both Antony and Gakpo at United.
I didn't think the result of tonight's match mattered but Whitwell said today that it could have an impact on the Gakpo deal so while I'd love to see him play out of his skin I think its for the best that he has a quiet one.

I think its more that if PSV qualify it will probably cost us more or PSV wont need or want to sell.
Us waiting until after PSVs biggest game of the season to talk to them is just politeness/respectful on our behalf.

Im not surprised, I never believed that we were able to sign both Antony and Gakpo especially if the fee is very high for Antony. With more reports of a higher bid going in for Antony I guess we are moving on from Gakpo (for now at least).

He's really Mr positive today, totally flattened De Jong and now suggesting hopes are bleak for this guy as well

Not really but that’s only because I think Ronaldo will stop us playing the pressing game we want to play so should only be a sub.
