Gapko may not be a world beater but much much better than Elanga. Smart club would have binned elanga and got gapko.
That doesn't mean anything. Sancho, Rashford, Antony, Garnacho are our options for wings and we aren't selling any of them .

I'm on the other side of the coin to most of you. Think he'll be very good for Liverpool and a player missed for us.

Predictable though, we'll spend no money this window.

If we don't buy a forward then top 4 will be impossible. Newcastle looking really strong and Spurs and Liverpool are obviously going to be in the mix.

So our attack:
Martial Rashford Antony Sancho Garnacho and Elanga if we need

Vs

Salah Nunez Diaz Jota Firmino Gapko And Elliott if they need.

Feck me that's a night and day difference. The most attacking depth in the world by far when they're all fit.

The disappointment isn't missing out on Gapko specified it's just that our team needs vast improvement in general.

Don't they need a midfielder? Why did they go for Gakpo?

Surely Diaz, Firmino, Nunez, Salah, Jota is enough.

Aren't most people saying we dont need him because we have similar players, rather than he'd flop? I'm sure he'll score a few for them, but his all around game is lacking.

No, most are critising his ability.

He'll be very good in the Premier League, has the right physique, got pace, can actually score chances and dangerous when on the ball. We don't have many options at all, Garnacho is 18 years old, Rashford is decent when in form but hasn't shown consistency at any point. Sancho is MIA. Our attack in general lacks bodies, we're missing about 3/4 options and Gakpo was a player that was achievable to sign this window which is very rare.

Instead we'll end up loaning in some trash and then scratch our heads why we're scoring no goals and our forwards are knackered.

You were severely doubting this signing up till now?
Whether I doubt him or not is not the question. The club wanted him and will sit sucking their thumbs because they poorly allocated their resources in the summer.

Ive been on record for preferring Felix over Gakpo. But that's not the point, the annoyance for me is a managers seemingly first choice forward in the window has been fecked up. But that's also because of his and the DoFs shit prioritisation in the summer.

There was long term rumours about us being interested in Darwin as well and that ended brilliantly as the feckers spent 100 million on an absolute donkey and we can only hope this is another one.

Christ alive, by the reaction of this thread it sounds like we let Mbappe go to Pool over us! He's not even better than Diaz

I agree with your overall point.

However, if there is money available and ETH was given guarantees that we would be making an attacking signing in Jan, I'm pretty sure he'll be pissed off over the dilly dallying of his number 1 target...

What indications are there that we’d be financially set to make another big signing this year?

Yes we’ve gotten Ronaldo off the wage bill but from what I’ve read the club seems to be in a dire state financially and I’m not surprised with us having just spent €240m in the summer.

Well we've lost Ronaldo, Greenwood and Sancho is exiled.

We need players and the manager wants players.

Liverpool don't need attackers but Klopp is getting given them anyway

I don’t disagree we need a striker, maybe we will get one, but you’d foolish to expect the club to go and get a marquee signing for the attack after the summer we had, especially with another big club competing for him.

Liverpool only spent €95m in the summer so you’d expect them to have leeway to make additional signings who’s had to deal with Diaz and Jotas being injured for different parts of the season and a misfiring Nunez.

Hes not really a CF, yet though. He's actually quite raw in his dribbling and isn't very fast.

He is physical, moves into good areas and has a mean shot on him. But I've often seen him jog about the pitch.

Who says the club wanted him?

I think we need to calm down. We were supposedly after him all summer, ETH knows him and Anthony better than any of us, he turned down Gapko and signed Anthony. Gapko will be great for them but Anthony has already shown he’s going to be a great winger for us. We are oversubscribed in those type of players, martial, Anthony, Sancho, Rashford are not centre forwards, we need that striker. Very hard to find, but all Gapko does is compete with what we already have. I don’t think Felix Is the answer either, and I’d have taken Gapko if ETH wanted him as a central striker. I hope ETH has someone in mind.

Also if he was desperately wanted by two clubs why did PSV deal at that price?

So a 18 year old kid , an unreliable cf and a £72m kid who has having physical and mental issues this season. Brilliant attack that is.
That wasn’t your point. You were banging on about Elanga being immediate backup when he is actually 3 injuries away from starting. We need an attacker - that’s clear - us not signing Gakpo doesn’t mean we aren’t signing an attacker.

Well if you believe we're lacking numbers, that just makes the Antony signing look even worse. £80m would get you Gakpo + 1 more.

Liverpool shitting it that they aren't going to make CL

Not convinced this guy is the answer but they've got to try something given the state of nunez I suppose

Just saw this... I'm absolutely gutted. Just no fecking words. Few things I hate more than Liverpool. But the Glazers have to be among those. I really didn't need this before going to bed. In before we go instead for another third-rate shitter like Thuram. ffs

What you’re doing is called assuming. Don’t do that.

I have always thought nothing of Rashford, go look it up.

Liverpool have many a times been praised for their business on here.

If you don’t like it when I do it it sounds more like a personal issue so figure it out mate.

Stop making things weird.

Sorry mate.

You just seem to have turned in to a bit of a nightmare following the Ronaldo saga and this feels like you’re now fishing for reactions with some clearly ludicrous takes that you know will irritate United fans.

Recall you being a decent poster and valued your Sporting insight so just letting you know and hopefully that’s not the case

I'm all for a bit of Glazer/Murtough bashing, but ETH insisted on Martinez and Antony, and the club did everything to get him what he wanted. Don't think we were ever getting both, more like maybe he didn't trust Rashford at the time.

I never made that point either. I also don't think not signing a Gapko is a disaster. But our attackers are injury prone as evident by this season. Martial Antony Sancho Rashford have all had fitness issues in past 2 seasons so 3 injuries may seem far but not with our attackers.

No, I wanted Felix. But if you read my reply then youl get the explanation.

You ignored me when i asked so wasn’t sure why.

Figured you’d be happy the club haven’t got him given you’d not fancied the player yourself a few hours ago.

I completely agree with that. I think we’ll sign a striker though.

ETH would have sat in with many discussions, as reported by Athletic on who to push for and whom not to.

He would have more than likely been aware of the costs associated with longing out a FdJ pursuit. He wanted to push for him, and the club more than did their bit. FDJ was never interested, so it's very evident Ten Hag and Murtough were led on a false chase, which led to Antony being 2 or 3x more expensive.

Almost every reputable outlet. That's just shy of ten hag opening an "I love cody Gakpo" shirt in a press conference.
Where? Romano has had a shocker but I can’t think of anybody saying we were in for him. There was nonsense about smiles at a press conference, sharing the same agent and some bullshit Mirror report 2 days ago but that’s it. Romano is taking a huge L here.
This is been cold for a while since we literally turned the man down 4 months ago and allowed Leeds to 99 percent sign him then. What would have changed? We obviously don’t see him as a striker since he was a back up for Antony so I’m struggling to see why we’d even go near him
