Television Cobra Kai

No it's pretty horrible. Daniel and Johnny are supposed to be karate experts and yet their body shape and stance is almost always wrong. Usually that would bother me, but with Cobra Kai it only adds the entertainment. It stays true to the original films in that respect.

Oh yeah, Johnny first fight was dodgy as feck, Daniel beach fight was choppy as hell. They both clearly is not a martial artist.

I really enjoyed it. Wholesome and charming with likeable characters. Any recommendations of shows with a similar vibe? I've been watching way too many crime series and this was a great change of mood.

I went straight to this after watching The Fall (quite a grim crime drama) and Conra Kai was a very welcome day of sunshine after that.

Yeah I've seen 1 and a half seasons of The Fall (the second lost me halfway through) so can see what you mean. Cobra Kai is excellent though - makes me wanna go back and watch Karate Kid again.

Just watched the first episode. Can’t tell if it’s awful or great

The first half of the second season where they fell back into the original dynamic, and Daniel was presented as the unambiguous good guy was a bit lame, partly because we’ve seen that, and the interesting thing about this show was approaching that from a different angle... and also partly because Robby and Sam remain so incredibly bland that it’s hard to care about anyone in Myagi-do.
It got a lot better as it went on though..

Daniel has aged terribly, but the guy playing Jonny has the perfect put upon hangdog expression to make him eminently rootable, whatever he does.

I have only this minute realised the Daniel actor is the same person - to me he didn't look anything like his younger self whatsoever.

The bad (now good?) guy is recognisible though.

I believe that every actor who is playing a character that was in the original movies, has reprised their role for this. Pretty awesome (even the likes of Daniel's mother and Johnny's old Cobra Kai buddies).

Really? I mean he’s aged terribly (not as bad as some of Jonny’s cobra Kai buddies) Bute thought he was still instantly recognisable.

Started this yesterday. Love it so far. It's corny as feck, but Johnny is a brilliant cnut.

Do you really think so? He's 58 (amazingly he was 22 while filming the Karate Kid!). I don't think he looks bad at all for that.

Daniel doesn’t look bad because he’s gotten old per say, he’s just gotten old in an unfortunately unflattering way. In the way that some child actors just have faces that don't suit maturity nearly as well.

Already said this previously but I think this is just excellent.

I had already watched both seasons twice prior to it going to Netflix and now that it's on there I have binged it all a third time. It has instantly become one of my favourite shows. It is supposed to be a cheesy martial arts show - just like the films were. It executes this perfectly and stays incredibly true to the source material. If you liked the Karate Kid when you were younger, this is going to hook you. Even when you think to yourself "that bit was a bit too corny", it manages to convince you to want to watch the next episode right away. Every. Single. Time.

I can't wait to see how they tackle the next series.

Many people had qualms with bringing back Kreese as the main villain, but I think this is realistically the only way to ever get Daniel & Johnny to be friends and finish the story so to speak. They will eventually realise that they need to work together and put a stop to Kreese & Cobra Kai for good (or at least take it back and make it better once and for all). I feel like the overall goal of Cobra Kai as a series is to have Daniel & Johnny settle the score and not have the grudge anymore. Although I am hopeful it takes a while as I want a good 4-5 seasons of this show if they can maintain what I think is extremely high quality thus far).

The episode where they both got drunk and go back to the home dojo before Johnny see’s Robby. “yeah like in Rocky, Rocky and Apollo go at it, just like that.”

had me in stitches and I want to see it.

Surely given what happened at the end of season 2 Johnny is probably going to be doing some sort of nursing back to health or something kinda thing.”

Yeah. I had a really long conversation with a friend of mine who is also a huge fan, but I can't remember all of our theories now haha.

Basically. I think a lot of next season is going to be about healing, for every character. I can see as much as half the season being about Johnny finding his feet again, Miguel will be recovering from his injury, Cobra Kai will be bullying everyone at school and there's no Miyagi-Do to oppose them anymore. Cobra Kai is going to become stronger and it won't be until something major happens to bring them together.

I think Johnny & Daniel will eventually join forces, teaching Miyagi-Do Karate, Robby & Miguel become friends, they'll be lots of hiccups and fall-outs along the way as usual but we'll eventually be at a point where it all clicks.

I do want to see Johnny & Daniel properly go at it at least once though, but I do expect that the journey is to see them become friends rather than continue the rivalry.

Watching him constantly struggling with the more modern way of things makes me laugh.

Finished the 2nd series now and is really enjoyable. Like some have said it is a bit on the cheesy side of things but then I always thought karate kid was.

I remember seeing a YouTube video a few years ago about how Daniel was really the bad guy in the whole thing and it does seem like the show likes to play with that a bit. The moaning about the illegal kick.

Isnt it also Barney from How I met your mother who explains how Johnny is the good guy at some point?

A bit?
They must be purposely making it ridiculous. You’d think they’d want the fighting to look better though.

I’m really enjoying some of the silly lines in it mind.

Watched the first episode with the missus last night. We're both fans of the movie. Cringy beyond belief at time. Tell me it gets better.

I really don't get people complaining about unrealistic fighting, did you really expect some realistic fights in this? Come on now. The series is tons of entertaining and fun which is most important, if you want realistic fights there are tons of other options for that.

One bit very naughtily made me laugh out loud.

Student: ‘My Dr says I might be on the spectrum:

Johnny: ‘I don’t even know what that is but you’d better get off it’

I mean it should be better than it is. I don’t think anyone actually cares though

This stuff is the reason I’m still watching

Just silly, insanely cheesy, OTT lines.

*punches kid in stomach*
*kid proceeds to need inhaler*
”what are you doing?”
“I need this, I’ve got asthma”
*smashes inhaler in to the wall*
”not anymore you don’t”

This being on Netflix is great. I still have this on my YouTube to watch list from over a year ago. It's easier with it being on Netflix

Started this and already half way through season 2.

I like how it's been filmed. It's almost like it follows straight after karate kid movies which is great. It's not clean like you see for most shows now. I don't see how it's cringey if you look it compared to the original movie. If you compare to other shows sure. But in that universe it fits perfectly

Also like how the one you root for can change depending on circumstance and episode.

That final episode of season 2 was a bit dark eh?

So cheesy but can't remember a show that I've actually LOL'd so much in a long time. Midway through S2. Does Ali make an appearance??!! If not, it's looking like she definitely will!

She will on s3

I read the talks somewhere.

Hopefully given
Johnny got a facebook friend request right?
That’s the shows biggest pull for me. Brilliant how you root for both sides and can flip and turn within episodes.

Can’t wait to see where they go with it.

I think finally given what happened at the end of season 2, we will see
Johnny and Daniel reluctantly working together to take down Kreese. And we will have one side to defo root for.
Miguel and Robbie will be the x factors though as im not sure what will happen with them.

Yeah, he had sort of thrown his smart phone (that he reads his emails on) away at that point though.

Just started this, didn't think it would be my thing but it's a great watch so far! I've never even seen karate kid!
Do you think the show gives you a decent insight into the rivalry?
The karate kid movies are always worth a watch either way.
