Television Cobra Kai

I haven't even seen the Karate Kid movies but stumbled across the Cobra Kai TV Series while waiting for a College interview as the lecturer is a fan. I became a fan after seeing that first episode, it's a brilliant show and I can understand where all the hype is coming from too. I really enjoy the throwbacks and the show manages to pull them off without seeming too cheesy but still also managing to keep the show current as well. I would recommend it for those who haven't seen it

Has season three been cancelled?
Last two seasons were released around April. Last year it ended on a bit of cliff hanger. Was looking forward to Daniel Laruso and Johnny Lawrence teaming up against Kreese's Cobra Kai.

It's in post-production now and I think I remember hearing Dec.2020 or Jan. 2021

NetFlix has acquired Cobra Kai.

Will be adding the first two seasons to their service and will be showing season 3. No date released yet but I would hope this year.

Good acquisition, should get a lot more exposure now too.

Don't understand why it so highly rated. Watch both season, and it is decent and enjoyable, just not at the rating given on Rotten T and Imdb, but anyway, binge-able and enjoyable nonetheless.

It’s an enjoyable show. I binged it.

Probably bc us early/borderline millennials are now the new old farts and boomers who are nostalgic for shit like this. :D

It embraces it's campiness, and yet gives it an authenticity, which isn't easy to do. You know it's a crap martial arts series, but it does enough to convince you the characters matter, which makes it eminently enjoyable.

I can’t stop watching it.

Cliche.
Enjoyable.

Plotline is generic romcom
But the actors made you care and root for them

Ps: halfway to s1 and still loving it. Will reserve judgment until I finished 2 seasons. Which is mini in today's standard so it's weekend bingeable

Finally finished season 1. It's cliche'd, stupid, with terrible martial arts ( except for the tournament which was fun) and the best living embodiment of 'memberberries. In short, I fecking loved it. Season 2 tonight for me.

Although why doe Robby always look likes he straining to pinch one off?

I binged season 1 yesterday - the nostalgia was absolutely class.

So I just finished this and it’s excellent. I expected heavy doses of nostalgia and there were moments of that without it being to in your face.

However the story arc and and how at times you’re just not sure who is supposed to be the good and the bad guy make it very intriguing and by the end of season 2 I really had no idea who I was rooting for.

Now can’t wait till season 3 comes out as I need to know what happens next. So so damn good. Some of the fight scenes are top class as well. Just finished watching Into the badlands and some are not far off that.

The show achieved exactly what it set out to do — to get you to watch it without taking itself too seriously. In parts it tries to have some nuance but mostly it’s just mindless entertainment and that’s what’s fun about it. You can just switch off and watch 3-4 episodes in a row while browsing the caf.

Just binged the whole 2nd season. Just an easy watch with nostalgia thrown in and bringing in old characters from the films is awesome but a shame they never brought in Dutch in the reunion scenes.

New season will be awesome and it seems the trailer reveals the nemesis from Karate Kid 2 which should be interesting.

It isn’t The Wire or Lost but damn it is a series to binge upon.

Best TV(ish) show in years. I loved every episode on Youtube. Glad its now on Netflix and will get the recognition it deserves

I think the martial arts is spot on for teenager that's just learning karate. Choppy socky. Tournament fights are points scoring so it's actual closer to dancing

I dont expect them to fight like bruce lee.

Watched one episode so far. It definitely captured the 80s level of cheese. Acting is pretty terrible too, but again - it does make it feel very 80s. Not sure I'll stick with it yet, depends on how many freaking flashbacks there continue to be until the show stands on its own merit.

I felt the same after one episode, by episode 4 the cheese had got me hooked!

Cheesy, cliche ridden nonsense of the very highest order but it’s brilliant

It’s cheesy nonsense but its enjoyable.

They aren’t trying to disguise it which I like.

It’s brilliant - watched both series in two days. It gives the fans exactly what they want and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

It’s really hard to work out who you should be rooting for!

Some genuine laugh out loud moments - “Medic”

Only disappointment was:
Not seeing Daniel smash through the ice block stand

Already said this previously but I think this is just excellent.

I had already watched both seasons twice prior to it going to Netflix and now that it's on there I have binged it all a third time. It has instantly become one of my favourite shows. It is supposed to be a cheesy martial arts show - just like the films were. It executes this perfectly and stays incredibly true to the source material. If you liked the Karate Kid when you were younger, this is going to hook you. Even when you think to yourself "that bit was a bit too corny", it manages to convince you to want to watch the next episode right away. Every. Single. Time.

I can't wait to see how they tackle the next series.

Many people had qualms with bringing back Kreese as the main villain, but I think this is realistically the only way to ever get Daniel & Johnny to be friends and finish the story so to speak. They will eventually realise that they need to work together and put a stop to Kreese & Cobra Kai for good (or at least take it back and make it better once and for all). I feel like the overall goal of Cobra Kai as a series is to have Daniel & Johnny settle the score and not have the grudge anymore. Although I am hopeful it takes a while as I want a good 4-5 seasons of this show if they can maintain what I think is extremely high quality thus far).

You are going to love the season 2 finale then

No it's pretty horrible. Daniel and Johnny are supposed to be karate experts and yet their body shape and stance is almost always wrong. Usually that would bother me, but with Cobra Kai it only adds the entertainment. It stays true to the original films in that respect.

While I agree, I think it's also much harder (especially for younger actors) to choreograph a fake fight than it is to go and have a real karate match. I personally think there had been a noticeable improvement by the end of season two and the final fighting sequence (bar the two youngest kids who were still moving at a very slow pace obviously).
