A distinction without a difference.
You took a mortgage from a bank to buy your home, no? The bank funded your acquisition but the bank does not own your home. Welcome to the difference between “funded” and “owned”. Seems like a pretty big difference.

You're not getting paranoid!

Great, isn't it? My daily activities have drastically been reduced.

Haha! Pleased that I can spot it, at least for now... I've been messing around with it, haven't found a good way to use it for work yet but it's on the to-do list. Got an invite to the Google one a while back, the differences in writing styles are interesting. Here's the response to "how could blockchain technology be helpful to Manchester United?":

Here are some ways that blockchain technology can be helpful to Manchester United:
  • Ticketing: Blockchain could be used to create a secure and transparent ticketing system for Manchester United games. This would help to prevent fraud and ensure that all tickets are sold to legitimate fans.
  • Merchandise sales: Blockchain could be used to track the sale of merchandise, ensuring that all royalties are paid to the appropriate parties. This would help to prevent counterfeiting and ensure that Manchester United receives its fair share of revenue.
  • Fan engagement: Blockchain could be used to create a more engaging experience for fans. For example, fans could use blockchain-based tokens to purchase merchandise, unlock exclusive content, and participate in polls and surveys.
  • Player contracts: Blockchain could be used to create secure and transparent player contracts. This would help to prevent disputes and ensure that players are paid their fair share.
  • Finances: Blockchain could be used to manage Manchester United's finances more efficiently. For example, blockchain could be used to track payments, manage assets, and generate financial reports.
These are just a few examples of how blockchain technology could be helpful to Manchester United. As blockchain technology continues to develop, it is likely that we will see even more innovative applications in the sports industry.

Interesting that it hits some different points, and puts a different emphasis on some where they overlap, but I haven't seen a good comparative analysis of that yet.

What I do think holds true is that Bard sounds more...focused? Don't know how to describe it really.

The EPL can easily organise that thus skipping the middle men (ex sky). We would have one subscription (mutv?) with United handling our subscription so we can watch away games, the CL etc.

Such situation will encourage to go big on tech. They could invest on multiple cameras across the pitch which would give a 360 degrees view of the pitch, the fan view experience (ie cameras near fans) or the stats experience with real time stats showing up + the ability to keep tabs on individual players (ex Maguire's speed or Martial's workrate). VR users would have a treat.

With such flow of money coming in mutv can hire top pundits who have our cause at heart. That means no more souness and Carra gloating on us losing 7-0. Fans can be involved (ex howson, Beth, Sam of united people tv etc) as well. Mutv game archive can be organised and made available. For example for 9.99 one can have in his library the entire treble season on the tip of the finger with extras (ex ole and Teddy discussing the CL final they won etc)

Paddy Crerand is as red-tinted as they come on MUTV but sadly I think he's retired.

The thing the PL needs to consider is that if they allow a direct-to-consumer approach it would kill off the smaller ones as no one can compete with United then considering our global fan base.

Maybe they can have a hybrid model. Or the big clubs can band together and have a hybrid model for them.

I sent a letter to the club this morning. Fingers crossed!

There would still be away games which united will have to buy at a premium. That's 50% of our games.

There are a number of potential ways that blockchain technology could help Manchester United:

  1. Ticketing: Blockchain technology could be used to create a secure, decentralised ticketing system for Manchester United matches. This would help prevent ticket fraud and ensure that tickets are only sold to genuine fans.
  2. Merchandise: Manchester United could use blockchain technology to create a secure and transparent supply chain for their merchandise. This would help ensure that all products are genuine and that the workers involved in producing them are treated fairly.
  3. Sponsorship: Blockchain technology could be used to create a transparent and auditable system for tracking sponsorships and advertising deals. This would help ensure that all parties involved are receiving the agreed-upon benefits.
  4. Fan engagement: Manchester United could use blockchain technology to create a fan loyalty program that rewards fans for their support. This could include exclusive merchandise, tickets, and other perks.
  5. Player transfers: Blockchain technology could be used to create a secure and transparent system for managing player transfers. This would help prevent fraud and ensure that all parties involved in the transfer process are treated fairly.
Overall, blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionise many aspects of the sports industry, including football. Manchester United, as one of the most prominent football clubs in the world, could certainly benefit from exploring the potential applications of blockchain technology.
How the hell do you know so much about blockchain? To call me blockchain dummy is giving me way too much credit.

I’d imagine not. Was making the point that ex-United players haven’t done much in football after playing. I was joking with Ince, half-joking with Schmeichel (who seems to know feck all about what he’s talking about). Van Der Sar is really the only one I can think of who’d add something on the staff.
The Ajax fans want Van der Sar to leave the club due to his ineptitude.

What’s the problem they have with him? From what I’ve seen, they’ve had a fair bit of success with him, but that was when Overmars and ETH were there. Generally, Ajax have hired bad coaches, other than ETH. He’s done well bringing in transfer fees, obviously.

He’s still the only ex-United player who has gone on to do anything of note in football after playing, so I wonder why the Qataris would promote getting any of them on the staff.

Depends where you are. The bank often does hold the title, or at the very least hold power over the home owner. Which of those two it is varies by jurisdiction.

For example, I live in a state (Florida if it isn't obvious by my screen name) that does "lien theory", where the borrow retains the title, but other states and countries have "title theory", where the bank holds it. However, if I have a mortgage I may still retain the title, but the bank can force me to have homeowners insurance (thus power and influence over decisions I make about my home).

So to the point of state funded or state owned, it really is semantics, as the state will get a lot of say in things.

Also, state funded, if that's how you choose to think of it, effectively means a loan (i.e., DEBT) from the state.

Gotta love ChatGBT.

I have been in the space for around 3 years now. I'm also very big on NFT's. The utility they will bring will be unbelievable.

He used ChatGPT...

Correct.

Also, I have a Project which is based on the blockchain. I need a little more knowledge than just relying on ChatGPT.

But hey, that's the beauty of ChatGPT, we'll all be experts! :)

Ah, wicked. I haven't used Google's version yet. Something on my to do list. But it does look impressive, too.

I really hope the feckers will selll shortly after this. I just want them gone, also we really need to plan our summer transfer window.

This is very important.
If the sale lingers through till next September (which is possible), we'll essentially be writing off another season, as the (outgoing) Glazers won't want to spend money on players in the Summer.

Overmars was kind of the glue that held things together and seemed to be the one with the vision of the club. VDS secured the talent, ETH enacted it on the pitch. Overmars was a massive loss. VDS is currently facing huge fan backlash, they want him out.

BC for United, as a developer is a long way away, if ever. Some examples, they lack organisational readiness, i.e IT capability, data availability. There will likely be external resistance, i.e. stakeholders (including upstream integration), GDPR issues, lack of external commitment, there is no competitive pressure.

Finances/player contracts: There are some interesting article written by Professor Christian Catalini of MIT who suggests near real time financial information can be shared with stakeholders (that could include contracts, integrating into AI can create performance based payments). ACCA have started training BC to professionals. Ultimately, why would management or even players want to publish that information on the BC?

Fan engagement: Gamification for fan experience isn't ready. I was at an Academic conference on Blockchain last week, one presenter asked how many "knowledgeable" attendees used BRAVE Browser, only 2 people in the audience. Another asked who was using the Metaverse (those that don't know the metaverse can be built on the BC). The metaverse increases barriers rather than decreasing barriers i.e it takes more time and it's not inclusive. While i know those are only two examples. I'll add, end users cite, trust, risk, awareness, speed, knowledge, usefulness, questioning the value and doing what is socially normal (waiting for others)/subjective norms.

There is probably greater use value for BC with an FA/UEFA based system with BC folks for clubs.

The thing is that he's done nothing of note on the football side of the club and hence his role has been on the board of the club. And since Overmars and ten Hag have left the football side of the club, he got involved on the football side of the club and has been making poor decisions and they still don't have a Sporting director. And the Ajax fans confronted him after the defeat to Feyenoord in their last league game.

We don't know in what capacity the Qatari group would want former players involved on the football side of the club. Bayern and Ajax do the same thing and it works because everyone knows their roles. Real Madrid do similar, where Florentino Perez wants people who have the Madridismo and his personal adviser is former Real Madrid keeper, Iker Casillas.

But it's important to look beyond the former players and try and understand who is running the respective football departments. And at Real Madrid and Bayern, it's their heads of scouting who ultimately decide who is and isn't signed and they work in tandem with the DoF and head coach.

No matter how we look at at it, it seems Jassim's bid is the better one by miles for the club. That's what it matters.

Some people are against him based on absolutely nothing and throwing accusations on sport washing, state owned and whatnot.

The club is the priority here. With proper investment and management we will be enormous without cheating like City and PSG. We have long history and big fan base to be back to the richest and biggest club in the world.

Well yeh, if you're willing to take everything at face value, even when it might contradict itself or lack any verifiable substance.

What is the purpose of these leaks? It's not as if outsiders have any say in who gets the club.

Wouldn't it be better to come out with all this once the club is secured and they are looking to secure United hearts and minds?

I'm going to assume to get fan engagement.

No, the fans won't be able to directly influence what happens per say, however, getting the fans onside early, will help later on.

Really? You think the prospect of someone turning us into the best team in the country and are rivals being scared is the worst thing you’ve read in here? You must not frequent this thread very often then.
Well, yeah. 'Isn't it wonderful' is a pretty horrific response to the pain of others.

Some great views. Thanks for sharing.

The fact that Tezos has teamed up with the club, created a discord and their own NFT's, is an indication that they are open to blockchain technology.

The speed of full adoption, will take time. But they're on the road.

Yes, it looks something like that. I don’t know if VDS is solely responsible for hiring coaches, but ETH has been their only successful hire (possibly Bosz as well, but don’t remember if VDS was there then). I think Overmars is/was a real talent, equal to Ten Hag possibly, so it’s not easy to replace those two.

It’s the magic number the Glazer want, but I cannot see anything other than Qatar nailing this now.
