More likely it will accelerate the rate at which my interest in football has been diminishing since maybe my 30s as other life priorities take hold and social life adapts to that, but we'll see. I think a lot of that is natural anyway for most people.

I have said it before, United as an entity is more a primary identifier in your younger life. But as you get older you would have added more other critical components to your life which identify you.
So you have diversified your time and emotions -- which allows you to look at things in a more objective manner, less emotional/dramatic like some of the posters here have done.

All the while it doesn't mean you care less. Just calmer about things -- worry about things you can control. Different shades of 'apathy' perhaps?
Though apparently it maybe is some alien thought for some people here, who seem to be ok screaming at things they have zero control over.

You don't need to be owned by an oil state to be able to compete though, eg Bayern.

Bayern aren’t a great example let’s be clear here, they cherry-pick players from rival clubs. They have no competition.

United would never become like Bayern. The premier league has already moved on It’s the billionaire's playground now.

Omg I didn’t say the club received offers I said Ronaldo wanted to leave the club, which is why he didn’t go on a pre season tour !
Yeah but it sounds like you're blaming the club for not being proactive and keeping him around when it would be weird to bring someone else in when we were paying Ronaldo so much.

What planet are you on
I'm just saying. New owner might want to make his mark and might dislike him. The same way the entire top brass of Chelsea and their manager left is the same way it could be at Man Utd. Similar happened at Newcastle when they were taken over recently.

I'd agree on different shades of apathy and maybe the spell in the wilderness United has experienced post-Fergie has facilitated reflection on whether principles should be sacrificed for a win at all costs mentality. I wouldn't say being able to debate calmly and rationally -plenty on here can do that- means people are calmer about things. Many are fuming, but have the restraint to post articulately about it.

They're a good example in that they are able to compete in Europe without needing pots of oil money to do it. The domestic league there is clearly boring as hell though.

Newcastle had Steve Bruce as manager who the fans couldn’t wait to see sacked and Chelsea had an unhappy Tuchel who was going through a divorce and challenged the new owners.

We have one of the best managers in the game. The new owners won’t be dumb enough to sack him and appoint a Graham Potter type.

Great thing about football everyone is entitled to an opinion and we don’t have to agree we did not over pay for Malacia no but the fact remains as a club right now we are a striker short, we could a bought a few with that £40m overpaid, it was obvious Ronaldo was trying to get out of the club all summer for a CL club and Martial had just flopped on loan at Sevilla plus we had the number 11 problem!

Best In Class don’t leave the manager scrambling for a loan deal in January on a Burnley CFW whose playing in Turkey!

Oh you are one of those, you have to buy someone for £40m or they not good enough, fair enough.

They're not a good example of how to compete in Europe in the same way that City aren't a good example of how to run a clubs finances. Both are operating in a completely different world to everyone else.

Bayern have, for as long as I can remember cherry picked most of the best talent from the German league and the German league has never struggled for quality players. They almost always pay under market value for them.

United can't emulate that model even a little bit. No one else can. Go back 20 years, maybe 25 and United could have done what Bayern do but didn't.

Done deal hopefully, need that sweet gas money if we’re ever to get revenge in the scouse in my lifetime
By next week? As likely as me winning the lottery.

They may take a month of due diligence after next week. Only then will come up with a firm offer. Then Raine needs to analyse it with the Glazers.
Then they decide on the next steps -- narrow down the choices or walk away from the sale.
Then maybe another round of negotiations to finalised the last offer.
Late April or may?

Wouldn’t be surprised if behind the scenes, the Glazers and Raine already know who their preferred bidder is and who they’ll likely deal with. Just got to do the whole song and dance because they’re greedy

The fact that Elliot were at the game last night is pretty brazen , they haven’t spent a lot of time saying this should be a private process and public statements etc are frowned upon then you have one group turning up to a game. That has me worried and a bit confused.

Does it mean now Jassim can turn up at any game he wants or SJR? V strange.

I don't care who will buy us and when while it is Qatar and it is finished by the end of this month.

Stone never said Elliott was there. He said they could be there.
Aggregator accounts suck

Yes. But unless the Qataris came up with an offer that just blows everything out of the water like 6billion (for 69%) or Ratcliffe/INEOS offered 4 billion and the Galzers keep 30% of the shares today; then it would be wise of Raine/Glazers to slow-walk the process. I would.

But they know that there is a deadline for any new owners to come in -- in view of the summer transfer window. If they drag on too long, they lose that leverage.

Given all the bidding parties are being invited for talks individually over the next couple of weeks I would imagine they will all be present at a game if their talks coincide with a home game. Somebody had to go first.

My point is more that despite not having oil money or other state-backing, they've managed to win two CLs and be runner-up twice since United last won it, proving you don't need Middle Eastern or any other state's money to compete, as some are insisting.

Its all psychological warfare. The Glazers are basically saying to Jassim/Ratcliffe "Look we aren't desperate. Thanks to Elliott we can afford to hold to the club if we want to and we won't accept anyone lowballing us"

The football landscape is changing though, for better or worse super wealth is coming into the game more and more. Can Bayern compete with that going forwards? I don't know, I'd be surprised. I don't know if Bayern are the best example though to be fair, they seem to be an exceptionally well ran club.

Absolute bluffer. Nobody has said they were there until Stone said they may have been but that has been twisted to saying they definitely were.
Simon Stone confirmed they were there.

I am told there were representatives of Elliott Investment Group at Old Trafford last night.

Elliott used to own AC Milan and whilst they are not looking to buy a stake in Manchester United, they are offering funding, either through a potential part purchase or to assist with redevelopment work around the stadium and the club's Carrington training complex.

We are at the start of a period of presentations, with United making pitches to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group and Sheikh Jassim's representatives next week as the ownership situation moves on.

Elliot would be the worst, thought they were the third hidden bidder that had been considered for the 2nd stage.

Wonder if we will see them team up with Sir Jim assuming the Glazers are "determined" to sell.

Glazers giving up control, risking future asset increase, with new regulators coming in?

Yeah, Glazers will be selling.

Elliot are not a problem if the Glazers are not staying in my opinion or at least not where the ire should be directed at.

They're just hoping someone takes up their payday loan rates but if it happens, it's the new owners I'll blame were that to impact on the club (looking at your Sir Jimmy).

I don't think Bayern would do that well (both domestic and in Europe) if they are put in the Premier League.
