Qatar all day long. The sheikh has a clear vision for the club and will heavily invest in the team, stadium and surrounding areas. Whereas Ratcliffe’s is a debt ridden offer banging the Brexit drum with a very vague description of what he’s actually planning. No thanks.

The Glazers are bastards. I didn't even know they moved Uniteds official HQ to the Cayman Islands. They won't even need to pay tax on this takeover

There is probably a good answer but none of them are palatable.

Now one thing that I really struggle to understand is how british people can so easily support Ratcliffe when his Brexit involvments show that he has zero care for the average british citizen. I have him next to Murdoch in the ostensibly despicable human being tree.

Because he was born in Manchester and was apparently a fan of the club so everything else is ok it seems.

It’s funny how the “locals” bid is the coldest least convincing and soulless. Qatar know what they’re doing, in more ways than one, including excelling at Sports washing, but they’ve pressed all the right buttons, unsurprisingly.

There's surely more than these two bids, I thought I'd read a couple of bids were already in before last night anyway.

Spending on players doesnt need to be reckless, we’ve always generated enough money for players And their wages. We need investment to sort out the wreck of a stadium, upgrade the training facilities and then we’ll attract the best players.
I wanted Ratcliffe when he was first interested but now it looks like they won't be paying off the debt it's not looking good for him, Qatar is the best option so far
My thoughts exactly.

There have been literal numerous people who have completely changed their mind. I have shown it.
if you cared aboht human rights in qatar but not when you get Mbappe, I am literally a better person yes.
You’re awesome mate well done.

I’ve umm’d and ahh’d over this for the last few days since the Qatar interest has manifested itself, and seemingly every 5 mins spent thinking about my personal opinion on the matter, I’m just left torn.

I think it’s great that so many people are highlighting their human rights record & lack of support for women and the gay community - but, then what? What are you expecting to happen after that?

It kind of reminds of the reaction when something overtly racist happens - like Rashford, Saka & Sancho missing their pens in the Euro Final and the trolls came out in force, but as a country we all banded together to stomp out racism, and make it clear that it’s wrong. Great. Then what? Not much else you can do beyond that right, you just have to live life knowing that people who hold such views live among us and could be in positions of power. It’s disappointing but life can’t stop.

I’ve spent the last 10 years or so being part of social movements, primarily rooted in Black & LGBTQ progression - and one of the hardest parts about it is, you can care so deeply about an issue, and put your heart, soul & every ounce of effort into wanting to see change - and it still won’t move the needle, because the people who have the power to make change, are often the very people you’re fighting against or the people who are indifferent.

So yeah, it’s great to see so many people pushback on a country with an ideology that isn’t accepting of all people - but I want you all to realise that you’re going to have to live with the disappointment that your good intentions & moral code isn’t enough.
Maybe one day in the future Qatar will change its laws on human rights & equality, hopefully soon, however this guy buying Manchester United, will not have an impact on that. The best that we can hope for, is that he personally doesn’t believe gay people & women are less equal, in the same way I have to try and believe everyone I come across isn’t racist.
Side note: Sir Jim being a tax-haven living Brexit voting gammon doesn’t sit well with me either, (though obviously doesn’t compare) there’s no such thing as a good billionaire.

If Al Thani buys us, he has to invest in the women’s team & their facilities, and also make it clear that everybody regardless of their sexuality is a part of this club. Beyond that, I’m not expecting much else.

I don’t know if that makes sense, and maybe in another 5 mins my mind will change again - but ultimately, the closest thing I can compare the feeling to, is that reluctant acceptance that people treat others differently for things they have no control over, and you can’t change their mind about it. Anybody who’s part of an oppressed minority can probably relate.

On to the football side of things, we don’t need someone who needs to falsify sponsorships in order for us to generate revenue. Even after 10 years of almost no success we generate £700M in revenue, and without the glazers & their debt, I calculate approximately £150-200m that we could spend on a yearly basis - depending on where we finish in the league - without needing to dip into cash reserves. And for a manager like EtH that’s more than enough.
That being said, the glazers have clearly sucked us dry, so whoever does come in - needs to pay off the debt, not just move it via accounting. And, for the first window at least inject some cash for us to spend - we can be self-generating afterwards. Sir Jim’s offer is the least appealing based on this.

The others are nice to haves - yes it would be nice to have a new stadium, new facilities etc but it won’t stop any on-field success we have, it would simply make sure we’re not falling behind our competitors in those spaces.
If someone comes in & makes us debt free, we can still finance a new stadium & upgrade our facilities, because EtH won’t need to spend £200m every single year - so a new stadium might take 8 years instead of 3-5 for example.

I’ll wait until more details come out, SJR needs to be more transparent about how he’s raising his funds & how he plans on investing in the club if he’s having to loan from 2 different banks - both of which are also very questionable.

I like the Progress Pride flag that Arsenal have in their stadium, maybe we could get a banner with that flag hung in the stadium, that would be great.

Very good post

Invest in the infrastructure, build world class youth set up and scouting system. Let the manager bring in players he wants and let's develop an identity on the pitch.

That's the ideal. But my fear is we'll bring in all mercenaries we've seen enough of over the years just because a new owner wants to wave his dick about to show it's bigger than anyone elses
All the briefings suggest that isn’t the case. Yes, they’re briefing PR but it means they know that’s not what the fans want. I don’t see why they’d go down that route if they know it isn’t what the fans want. I totally share those concerns (and obviously others in terms of where the money is sourced) but I’m a bit calmer now seeing how they’ve played this out. I also think ETH won’t have it - I think much like SAF under the glazers initially with the debt repayments being unmanageable had we not kept winning stuff ETH may well save us from going down a very bad path.

Yeah, as I thought…. No fecking quotes you absolutely gullible numps

“sources say”…
It’s hardly a Sun article about something far fetched. Anyone with half a brain can spot it’s basically a press release.

Yeah, as I thought…. No fecking quotes you absolutely gullible numps

“sources say”…
So you think multiple reputable journos just made that up? Anyway, why don't they release a proper statement then so we will not have to continue guessing?

How can we back a British bid after Winston Churchill caused 3.8 million people to starve to death in the Bengal famine?

Can't believe people are ok with this.

Because it’s not a fecking quote man!!!!!

The Athletic sources says “Jim wants to put Manchester back in Manchester United” is being quoted as though Jim fecking said it.

Gullible as feck you lot.
It's literally a direct quote from his press release last night. "sources close to the bid AKA his team"

Do you think the British press are trying to misquote him? you call us gullible

How is it nonsense?

People have completely changed their opinions on literal human rights and deaths of vulnerable people because it benefits them. It should be constantly mentioned.
What are you doing about it? Apart from being casually racist towards anyone that wasn't born in Manchester within earshot of OT?

So you think multiple reputable journos just made that up? Anyway, why don't they release a proper statement then so we will not have to continue guessing?

No, I think the Athletic made it up and others,
like posters here, are running with it.

Jim has already done a full interview about the possibility and in due time we’ll learn more, why so fecking impatient?

Yeah I have a friend that works in the middle east and he has a great life there. But in the time he's been there he has come to realise he's largely insulated from the majority of the issues Qatar and other states have been criticized for.

I've spoken to a few people who've worked in near slave like conditions. What stood out was they've accepted harsh realities of life and more surprisingly were proud 'they' built the stadia for the WC. The exploitation of poverty is disgusting, what's also annoying is the contrast, folk from the West in good jobs getting treated like VIPs. My colleague loved her life in the Gulf. She had no guilt watching workers toil in 50c whilst her family were enjoying the day under some air conditioning.

A bit surprised there has been no third or more bidder announcing their intention.

There have been literal numerous people who have completely changed their mind. I have shown it.

We cant have you reporting posts coming back at you when you start posting absolute drivel like this...

The truth is, in the modern world we tolerate, turn a blind eye to, and don't even realise many injustices and atrocities. We generally look at what the powers that be want us to, and attention is drawn when they want it. DPRK death camps, the taliban, african dictatorships; these are just the bits of the world we do condemn, if only with paltry words. Chinese slaves, the middle east, the tory government, we tolerate because we are too weak to protest, and they have something we want. Once in a while, they'll throw us a bone. The video of Ty Nichols, some platitudes, whatever.

Even those fighting the good fight make severe hypocricies. Christo Grozev/Bellingcat has spent ages working against Putin and exposing his regime, but somehow seem beholden to Navalny, who is just another nationalist that wants to take over the system. Probably gets good access and an intelligence network, but it's a deal with the devil.

How does one be a good person, when their opinion doesn't even matter? Sure, if there's enough of a tide then collectively it'll matter, but that requires powerful people to decide on such a tide. (or the qataris in question to get caught doing something totally terrible on tape)

On the subject of Qatar taking us over, yea I'm with you. I don't like it, but I don't mind really as long as they invest in everything, make everybody feel included etc. Because I'm a hypocrite too who wants Man Utd to do well. And firing off an email to Mackenzie Scott asking nicely won't make her buy us.

I didn’t want Ratcliffe from the start and even less now with that vague Brexit dog whistling offer. The glazers only care about cold hard cash so I really hope the Qatari’s have offered a much better deal and it takes Brexit Jim out of the equation.

I do agree with this. Theres been nothing at all from the Ratcliffe camp. And that 'quote' suggests Jim Ratcliffe refers to himself ala The Rock.

Based on?

We know nothing about the bud, we do have an earlier interview of SJR though talking about the possibility with a shit tonne of warmth.

Well, it's the best people have to go on, considering he hasn't even made an official statement. For someone who cares so much, the least he could do is come out with an actual release and explain to the fans. Which is what Qatar have done. Ratcliffe's attitude is similar to what Nice fans have issue with. Already off to a good start then.

Exactly the kind of post that shows football has completely lost it's soul. This thread is a car crash of these types of posts. Disgusting.

Honestly regardless of what has happened now I don't think I relate to a large chunk of the clubs support base.

I can respect those who have called it as it is, villains post is a great example. But the amount of mental gymnastics a lot are displaying makes me sick. You're willing to put morals aside for the sake of some football trophies. That's fine if that's your position, but have the stones to say it how it is.

In the glazers eyes probably
But as a fan, I want to see more depth in their ideas. Put my mind at ease about the debt and not taking all the profits otherwise we’re swapping one glazer for another.

I agree. I'm actually surprised he's not tried to convince the fans he's the right bloke. Not that the fans have any power.

Because it’s not a fecking quote man!!!!!

The thing is though, the quotes about Al Thani bidding also didn't come from him. They came from sources as well. Just relax.
