Club Sale | It’s done!

I’m sick at the thought of United being state owned by that shower. What can I do ? F**k all, but it’s a joke it’s allowed to happen.

I’d prefer Radcliffe and we work our way back to the top. It’s a cheat code getting dirty oil money , as far as I’m concerned any succes under them is tainted.

I was really looking forward to the club rebuild under ETH. It is far more satisfying to win the right way, which is having no question marks over your success and doing it in a way where you earned it. City and PSG earned nothing, their legacies are nothing.

I can’t say I have the moral courage to stop supporting United (not easy after over 33 years) but this really spoils things for me.

F*ck the football authorities for allowing this to happen. I hope the whole league implodes on itself so I don’t have to hate myself for not being able to walk away from supporting the club.
Excellent post, you’re spot on especially in regards to earning success. I’m generally worried all the great work ETH has done with the team will be unravelled if some oil state starts dictating who we have to sign, we need players who play for the shirt not just the salaries.

Just to be clear. You are worried about the links to the Tories and Wall Street but currently have no qualms about the political ideology of the Qatari ruling elite?

Yes, anyone but Americans. Especially someone like Jim who will be backed by them and will have to borrow and put more debt into the club.

The kickback from not selling at this point will be on par with the Liverpool match postponement

We wont play again this season

The Qatar thing because obvious to me when Avram was going out there during the WC and attending games even. Glazers been courting them for ages.

So good you quoted it twice.
So good you noticed it and quoted me, before I edited it. Life is tough though, Qataris are very likely to buy Man United and will continue their investments all across EU. And yes, you are probably using their petrol, while your government is doing its best to sell arms to Qatar.

*Churchill to the Americans*: it’s alright lads… we want to win ‘the right way’.

Not at all the same thing at all, I appreciate.

However, this notion of our success being tainted after over a decade of being handicapped in the extreme is a nonsense to me.

Also, it’s just football, why can’t you maintain your moral compass and enjoy the sport at the same time?

Besides if Qatari ownership influences us, surely it will influence them too. This is not a nothing club they’re buying, it’s a global institution, it has its own identity and they will be buying into that whether they mean to or not.

Just a little joke mate, no need to get so defensive.

What I should have said really is so good you responded to it twice.

Surely even the people strongly supporting Ratcliffe should be at least tiny bit concerned by a complete lack of pledges/promises/plans/whatever else you call it? I mean... "put the Manchester back into Manchester United" or "no fresh debt" is hardly inspiring. There is literally no PR from their side, is it because of them not being arsed to do it, or is it because they don't have anything worth saying? Because right now it seems they are simply trying to ride the "Let's make United great again" wave.

Feel like we have to qualify every quote with "i'd prefer to not have Qatari or Saudi owners"

But Ratcliffe's PR is absolute dog shite....."Trust me i'm British and basically reusing his Chelsea bid PR release document" vs "This is exactly what we will do, no debt, heavy investment, comments about the stadium"
I find Ratcliffes PR the worst of a Tory style, dog whistling. “Hey I’m British and we should keep it British” that’s not the selling points for me, the Qatar bid nailed the selling points for me, youth development, infrastructure development, community development, no debt.
JRs was underwhelming and short of detail

"This is a british bid for a british club" - Jimmy said calmly. I wonder how the millions of non british Chelsea fans felt about that.

Apologies mate. Misunderstood. English is not my second or third language. This thread has been a lot of fun. As long as the club is debt free and is able to use the money it earns, while facilities are modernized to allow for best experience for our players and fans, I could not care less who the owner is. Feck Glazers, feck debt and feck the leaking roof at the Theatre of Dreams.

Can you post a source for these quotes?

I’ll get behind most bids that allow the club to spend the money they generate and not servicing of debt, the last thing I want to see is a cheat code of a bottomless pit of external money.

Completely agree. The bid from Al-Thani spoke to us all us fans and you could see from a small set of sentences what he wants to bring to the club. Ratcliffe was abstract at best and he seems divisive to our broad set of international fans as United are a global club.

This is an absolute rotten choice. Not unexpected of course, since there was no candidate in the run up who didn't have major flaws, but it still sucks.

From a sporting perspective there's no doubt in my mind that Qatar is vastly more promising, but from a moral point of view it's the complete opposite. With all the flaws of a Brexit loving Tory polluting the environment, the Qatari regime is on another level of bad.

You dont want to make promises you cant keep. Thats why I think theyre not fully commited.

I think this is how most of us are feeling today about the whole thing. We'd rather not, but Jim Tory Ratcliffe worries me with what he''s saying.

So SJR bid will change nothing. Our current debt remains and no assurance on infrastructure investment. Looks like “British bid” is not that good
Surely ‘ no fresh debt’ simply means the purchase won’t be leveraged against the club, since we know already he plans to clear the existing debt with bonds from JPM and GS.

If course it applies, but it's not absolute, there are tipping points. Thats the way humans operate.
Peraps thery believe sportwashing is a lesser devil than greenwashing.

People can change, Ineos is poisoning the earth and may never recover.

I know which one I prefer (and that's not taking into account more loans as Jimbo hasn't the money).

This is so cringe. I expect this kind of shit from 14 year olds on Twitter trying to cancel random celebrities but an adult trawling through feck knows how many posts just so he can go gotcha is unbelievably sad.
Well that's nothing new for him in this thread unfortunately, he's been pathetic from the get go with some of his antics and takes.

it actually makes me wonder (not actually suggesting he's done this) but makes me wonder if he aimed his statement at the government? Not long ago we saw that Tory donor switch to labor because "the government is going to go cultural war before the election". If the pollies pick this up and want it as an issue, only one person has talked about "keeping a british club in british hands".

I just want an investor who will invest where needs to be invested and improve where things need to be improved. Focus on the structure of the club and not try to ejaculate money away like Boehly.

A lot of ‘holier than thou’ posts floating about. Face it, we have no choice in who buys us, if it is Qatar then that’s the situation we find ourselves in.

No investor capable of buying United is an angel. They’re all scumbags one way or another.

I don't think you have the capacity to understand this, but one of the things that made United exciting to watch in the good times was the set of constraints that surrounded them. There was never a time when the team was completely constructed of flavour of the month players brought together like a bunch of mercenaries. Many times you would look down the list and realise that a player wasn't considered the best in the world in their position. Those players knew that too. They knew they needed to bring their best to every game and it showed in the passion and teamwork. United ran away with so many games, won so much silverware, but there was always a tension because you knew that everyone had to perform.

Your argument is that we can use unlimited wealth to bring together a set of personalities that are fundamentally incompatible with winning teams. You can look at PSG for an example of how this works out. I'd argue that you can look back on the post-Fergie to ETH times as a time when executive management was trying to emulate the big spending model with an inept scouting and transfer team in place.
Sure I know what you are talking about. But we have been in very long dark period for nearly a decade since Fergie retired. Whether its money alone, or good management alone, just isn't good enough, these days you really need both. I think football has changed alot since the glory days of 80s, 90s, and even 00s. Without good management you can't sustain all the way at the top, without good money backing your can't afford/attract the likes of Mbappe, Haaland, Tchouameni, Enzo, Bellingham in this world. There already multiple teams in England (City, Chelsea, or even Newcastle in future) or Europe (PSG, Real Madrid, or even Barca on the verge of getting broke) trying to build super teams with unlimited funds, we are now competing in a completely different era than in the past.

I wanted Ratcliffe when he was first interested but now it looks like they won't be paying off the debt it's not looking good for him, Qatar is the best option so far

All valid, my only input in this thread is people can support or have concerns about any owners they like without bekng attacked.
