The media plays United fans like fiddles.

"Leaving the Glazers in control" - Because they know this infuriates the fans.

rather than:

"Minority stake with a view to full ownership" - Less bait.
Even if there is an agreement ( which at the moment doesn’t exist), it will not change anything regarding current deal which is to obtain minority ownership.

25% control with majority of shares under Glazer control is exactly “leaving Glazer in control”. There is absolutely nothing wrong in what is being reported.

Jimbo putting the Manchester back into Manchester United. Oh do feck off jimmy.

So is he doing this out of charity, or love for the club?
No he's not, but are the Glazers really going to accept a smaller amount now with INEOS eventually buying up all shares? Do you honestly think that the Glazers would set a price that they'd accept in 3 years and stick to that value? What if the clubs fortunes vastly change? What if the Super League did materialise? Would the Glazers seriously just say "Yeah the club is now worth £10b, but we'll accept the £5b we said we would 3 years ago". Just can't see that happening to be hoenst with you.

I also don't think INEOS would splurge £1.5b now then have the Glazers turn round in 3 years and say we want another £8bn or we aint leaving

Obviously Ratcliffe is not going to give the Glazers £1.5B without stipulations on how it is spent. If the mega richs Qataris won't stump up the asking price then this is better than nothing. Beggars can't be choosers.

The idea that fans won't stand for this is funny. How is it worse than what fans have put up with for a decade and more?

Most likely this is that's going on.

Thats exactly why I think there must be some agreements. Jim is no mug, he isn't going to throw away 1.5b for nothing.

So what is the optimist perspective here? Ratcliffe is in control in '26 and he genuinely will progress this club, first and foremost by not being a stumbling block to success like the Glazers, putting all focus on sporting excellence and placing highly competent people in all meaningful positions. Even if that were the case, what can he do in the meantime from stopping the rot at the club?

Maybe so... but still, are the Glazers going to agree to a fixed price now knowing the value could skyrocket and they could be left out of pocket. Yes the opposite is also possible, but should things happen and the value increases, it's not going to go well for them is it?

Yes Jim is no mug, but the Glazers are leeches, they won't do anything that will leave them at a disadvantage

Seems like a decent start. Jim gets his foot in, while also ruling out Qatar. I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet, but it'd be good news if it were to happen.

I suppose in the meantime, INEOS would have some representation on the board and would be able to influence changes, but wouldn't have the power to force them through.

Weak incompetent wannabe owner fails to replace weak incompetent owners.

Oh yeah, because watching the Glazers run the club into the ground for the next 3 years whilst pocketing £1.5b in the process is the best news i could think of.

The more i've though about this, it points to one of two situations happening:
1) The Glazers have no intention of selling and Jim is using this restructure to try, as you say, get his foot in the door for the future, or convince them to do a structured sell
2) Qatar have submitted a bigger offer and Jim knows he can't match it, so he's trying one last time to offer something that he feels would appeal to the Glazers

Not sure which one, if any, are true, but the article seems to read that Jim is doing this, or considering it, because he feels thats what the Glazers want, rather than what he's been told

Would be a disaster as it has Murtough and co remaining in their positions.

I ain't making anything up.
That’s just Ben Jacobs though. How can you say the media aren’t reporting an aspect of the story for outrage? In fact the original story that’s being quoted clearly states they don’t know how it affects any future bid or even if he wants to complete a takeover.
You’re just quoting Ben fecking Jacobs to me

One thing I know about Stock market, usually market knows. No material change to the price tells me nothing is imminent or close to conclusion. which also tells me that this might be Ratcliffe's ploy to move the sticks.

But they have outbid Sir Jim? Not even outbid but better than that. simply been the only legal option as a takeover.
The class A shares aren’t allowing Jim’s Glazers only offer to continue, Qatar have already done it, they’ve fecked both Jim and the Glazers plan. In 2026 he has the same problem in a takeover, he has to have a better offer than Qatar for the Class A shares and that’s not something he can agree to with Glazers alone.
I’m
Coming round to this idea too, why would the big hedge funds agree $21-25 for class A shares now when they’ve been offered more from SJ/92 foundation, too me this is a desperate last play for a man who eats s vanity purchase , reeks of Michael Knighton all over again !

No thank-you Jim. Out of the two main offers his has been distinctly uninspiring, unless you're excited by overly complex financial shenanigans. Keeping 'those people' hanging around is just the icing on the cake.

I'd take the Glazers staying forever and the club going bankrupt than state ownership and blood money.

The fact that practically nobody has responded to this shows either the stupidity of your statement or you are on so many people's ignore list.

And both can be true!

if you can help me figure out how to ignore him, I'd appreciate

Agree.

Also it will break the deadlock either way.

Does anyone predict we will imminently hear from the 92 Foundation side?
In a tweet before, Mike Keegan did say that Qatar and SJ remains committed to buying 100% of the club. Probably just going from past reports, but he might have been told post this news

Just proves, to me anyway, that Qatar is absolute radio silence, so absolutely no one knows whats going on from their side. Whilst INEOS seem to be leaking left and right about what they're planning, SJ just seems to do everything in silence since his last "take it or leave it" offer.
