One word - Glazers.

It’s that simple. You’re talking about a family of completely out of touch, now borderline geriatric, Floridian nepo baby simpletons who it’s widely reported have to be constantly humoured and eased into each decision they make.

And this is the biggest ‘decision’ they’ve ever made (or come close to making, as is actually the case).

Remember - the current Glazers have simply inherited Utd, they aren’t business people who acquired it.

Famously, they aren’t equipped with the skill set to run a big club, but equally, they’re not even equipped with the skill set to sell a big club.

The bidders they’re dealing with are big boys - multi billionaires, the Glazers, it must be remembered, are not this in comparison. They are nothing compared to the wealth of 92 Foundation or Ratcliffe.

They’re long proven out of their depth competing for the PL - famously appointing an accountant to oversee a football club in direct competition with the genius of Txiki at City… and they’re now being shown to also be out of their depth at either securing investment, or selling the asset they were gifted.

They are a prime example of privilege over competence - indeed, nepotism and cronyism is something that has consistently trickled from the top down through Utd during their reign at this once great club.

They are an anomaly in the modern business World - a collective of inept decision makers with no vision or discernible talent.

I'm not all that surprised, just a marvel you can run a business or a big sale that way... And probably suffer no consequences for it apart from "only" getting 5 billions instead of 6.

Football really is magic.

Anyone think that the theory of we're waiting until after summer to not get fleeced on deals is why they haven't closed the deal with Qatar or INEOS? With all the funds needed for the stadium and infrastructure you certainly don't need inflated transfer fees right from the start!

Praying that's the only reason for delay.... :nervous:

I don't know, inflated fees is the norm for everyone this summer anyway... But it does make sense not to add turmoil on top of turmoil, transfer season is stupidly frantic as is.
IIRC the PSG fully transitioning to QSI ownership happened in the winter. Chelsea was done in May but there was some urgency and pressure to close the deal by authorities.

Don’t think the Glazer’s would give a toss about that. Why would they suddenly think strategically about Utd? All they want is the maximum they can get for an asset they have been gifted.

Well said.

Ah yes. A complete anomaly in the business world. People who are only rich because of their family connections who have thrived through dubious morals.

Nah, I don’t subscribe to this one. I’ve had enough with the Harry Kane conspiracy theory in the other thread.

Your description of their incompetence is on point but I’d contest that they’re an anomaly. This past decade especially has revealed that this description fits for quite a sizeable chunk of the billionaire class. Their world is teeming with such characters. Utterly being out of your depth seems to go hand in hand with owning (inheriting) big brands and sports teams as toys to play with.

These fools seem far more competent running the Bucs though. Wether it’s luck or judgement.

The Glazers are an anomaly in the business that we’re talking about - owning a PL club.

There are no other owners who have directly inherited the club from their father passing away - it is completely anomalous.

Inheriting a fortune and then using said fortune to launch / buy a business isn’t the same thing as literally inheriting a club.

City’s owner has inherited his wealth and then used that wealth to buy Man City, but no one would call him a clueless owner - ruthless? Sure. Dubious? Unquestionably. But not inept.

There’s a big difference between that and circumstance with the Glazers.

They’re really not. Complete luck. They got lucky and managed to have Tom Brady for a couple seasons which paid off in a Super Bowl…but other wise the club has been a s*** show. They’re back to being one of the worst teams in the league.

Wasn't Leicester FC (and King Power) passed on to the son after the owner died in an accident ?

Heavy dose of copium here unfortunately. Glazer kids were running the club since purchase, just like the Buccs. Daddy had little to do with the day to day.

Inherited clubs are at least 3 in the PL since the Glazers took over; not exactly an anomaly.

I don't get why people feel that squeezing the biggest price out of buyers is buffoonery or incompetence either. It doesn't suit us and we don't like it, but it's perfectly rational.

Buccs fans tend to disagree.

It's not so much the price gouging I take exception to, most the way they're conducting this business. Feel those sort of deals are generally done behind close doors and announced when close to completion or happen in a more timely manner.

It's certainly distasteful from a fans perspective, we just want it done and the Glazers gone. Probably worth noting that there's millions more people with an emotional attachment to Man Utd than to most acquisitions. So everything simply feels more public and showcased. I'm not convinced there's been a huge amount of public briefing from the parties themselves; all the Glazers announced was a 'strategic review' to my knowledge. Ratcliffe has probably been guilty of a bit of briefing, and Jassim to a slightly lesser extent. Acquisitions take time... If you consider when a PL club has been put 'for sale' - it often takes years and years to get resolved. See Ashley and Newcastle, Liverpool taking forever, even Foley and Bournemouth last year.

My take is our club profile is simply huge so the news/interest is supercharged, multiple potential sales channels with buyers happy to brief, and sellers who want to maximise their asset. Nothing exceptional about it.

If you believe the media that 4 want to sell to Qatar and the other 2 want to hang around like a bad smell with Ratcliffe, then surely the 4 will get fed up and will put pressure on he other 2 to sell to Qatar, sooner rather than later. This non aggressive Mexican standoff surely will collapse soon. I got a feeliing like others that the transfer window end will be when it happens: so September.

Am not sure what our sale price will be, but if it is The Glazers asking price of six billion, you really to have to hand it to them.

Does not bode well for United's future. Jassim reading the room so badly, and winds up meeting the seller's valuation belatedly. His threats of walking away evincing transparent negotiating skills.

This is because he made overtures to giddy, entitled supporters (gentrif.. sorry, invest in the local area! a new stadium! Qatarrington! no
more debt!) proving his assets.

Negotiation strategy, otherwise known as 'United Tax', has been a significant problem post-Fergie. Jassim, on this evidence, will only exacerbate matters.

It's certainly distasteful from a fans perspective, we just want it done and the Glazers gone.

I do indeed want rid of the Glazers but not at any price. I do not just 'want it done'.

Neither bidder fills me anything other than a nameless dread - whereas one is attendant to a human rights abusing dictatorship and cannot work even the Glazers, the other is an unscrupulous, proven liar.

What I want is an administration who knows how to handle the footballing side, without projecting some dismal political ideology (autocratic regimes and hard-Tory brexit) with increased corporatism aimed at children.

Remember, you are absolutely being 'political' if you advocate these candidates. Qatar, especially.

@Rado_N is an accountant

You're not wrong.
Not sure the angst is warranted because I'll probably not like the new owners either.

Hopefully the Glazers are taking note of the crazy transfer fee’s this summer. £200 million barely gets you two starting midfielders these days and it’s only going to get worse.

Especially if we miss out on Top 4 and having to do a load of catching up again with those ahead of us.

If Arsenal and Liverpool can afford more expensive players than us(Rice, Caicedo) that means that the sinking of the ship is accelerating and it's really the time for Glazers to leave. They can't compete and grow the club in this market anymore. It's over, it's all downhill from here - midtable followed by eventual relegation battle in the distant future and possible bankruptcy.

I don't know. If they are even paying attention at all they are probably looking at all the money flying round and their eyes are lighting up like smeagle. "Look how much money is there now Avram, it could all be oursss if we just hold on longer to our preciousss". Never a fecking hobbit around when you need them.

It's funny how not so long ago we were promised news soon and yet it's as silent as ever. They are just waiting for a good news to soften them staying aren't they. Maybe if we thump Wolves or something and they know they won't have to fund a mega bid to keep the easily mollified happy.

They don't need to announce they're staying. They just stay.
I don't think they will though. Might take a coupl of years

Yes, and they have gone from being League champions to being relegated.

Not to pass over the incompetence of the heir but as I understand it COVID was a hard financial hit on the club and the parent company and it didn't help.

Some might call you hysterical but this is true. Alarming that we're making so many sales but there's not much talk of any further incomings. I hope this is the Glazers' final window.

Pretty sure they have to update on the strategic review for shareholders otherwise companies would just pump their stock all the time. Happy to be corrected on that.

Crikey I bet you're fun at parties! :p

I'm sure it's one of the reasons they decided to sell in the first place. Competing against nation states to buy players and it's only getting worse

Wasn’t there suppose to be an announcement of some description regarding an update on the sale when the players returned from the US Tour ?

Yet again nothing happened !

Honestly I doubt it. Higher fees are due to more money coming into the league. Player spending as a % of revenue has not changed significantly over the years, and the new FSR regulations that are coming into effect will aim to ensure it stays that way.

things have changed a lot in the last two years though

interest rates are way higher

and now we have the Saudis and Qatar joining, maybe others too

Maybe that was the Custis article which suggested Jassim could buy club in November

I agree, and I do think the club's current financial situation is unsustainable and thus they have to sell sooner rather than later.
