Any chance one of the potential bidders has had a offer accepted and is now going through the fit and proper persons test with the premier league? Could that be happening without anything leaking?

I’ve just read a article on the athletic around this.

“The more important point is that lots of people have failed it but because that information would only become public if they were already owners or directors of clubs, we very rarely get to hear about it and failed applicants are unlikely to talk about it.

Speaking to the BBC in 2017, former Premier League boss Richard Scudamore said he had turned down potential club owners “too many times to mention”. When pressed for a number, he said “at least 10s, probably 20s”.
Unlikely imo. Glazer’s would have to notify NYSE, I think, in that circumstance.

No fan of Bush but war criminal is an actual legal thing determined by international courts. It has become to mean absolutely nothing over the years as people like yourself water it down to simply mean "anyone who initiates a war I disagree with"

It is an actual legal thing.

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Article 8, War Crimes
Article 8
War Crimes

  1. The Court shall have jurisdiction in respect of war crimes in particular when committed as part of a plan or policy or as part of a large-scale commission of such crimes.
  2. For the purpose of this Statute, ‘war crimes’ means:
    1. Grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, namely, any of the following acts against persons or property protected under the provisions of the relevant Geneva Convention:
      1. Wilful killing
      2. Torture or inhuman treatment, including biological experiments;
      3. Wilfully causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or health;
      4. Extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly;
      5. Compelling a prisoner of war or other protected person to serve in the forces of a hostile Power;
      6. Wilfully depriving a prisoner of war or other protected person of the rights of fair and regular trial;
      7. Unlawful deportation or transfer or unlawful confinement;
      8. Taking of hostages.
    2. Other serious violations of the laws and customs applicable in international armed conflict, within the established framework of international law, namely, any of the following acts:

      2. Intentionally directing attacks against civilian objects, that is, objects which are not military objectives;
      3. Intentionally directing attacks against personnel, installations, material, units or vehicles involved in a humanitarian assistance or peacekeeping mission in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, as long as they are entitled to the protection given to civilians or civilian objects under the international law of armed conflict;
      4. Intentionally launching an attack in the knowledge that such attack will cause incidental loss of life or injury to civilians or damage to civilian objects or widespread, long-term and severe damage to the natural environment which would be clearly excessive in relation to the concrete and direct overall military advantage anticipated;
      5. Attacking or bombarding, by whatever means, towns, villages, dwellings or buildings which are undefended and which are not military objectives;
      6. Killing or wounding a combatant who, having laid down his arms or having no longer means of defence, has surrendered at discretion;
      7. Making improper use of a flag of truce, of the flag or of the military insignia and uniform of the enemy or of the United Nations, as well as of the distinctive emblems of the Geneva Conventions, resulting in death or serious personal injury;
      8. The transfer, directly or indirectly, by the Occupying Power of parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies, or the deportation or transfer of all or parts of the population of the occupied territory within or outside this territory;
      9. Intentionally directing attacks against buildings dedicated to religion, education, art, science or charitable purposes, historic monuments, hospitals and places where the sick and wounded are collected, provided they are not military objectives;
      10. Subjecting persons who are in the power of an adverse party to physical mutilation or to medical or scientific experiments of any kind which are neither justified by the medical, dental or hospital treatment of the person concerned nor carried out in his or her interest, and which cause death to or seriously endanger the health of such person or persons;
      11. Killing or wounding treacherously individuals belonging to the hostile nation or army;
      12. Declaring that no quarter will be given;
      13. Destroying or seizing the enemy's property unless such destruction or seizure be imperatively demanded by the necessities of war;
      14. Declaring abolished, suspended or inadmissible in a court of law the rights and actions of the nationals of the hostile party;
      15. Compelling the nationals of the hostile party to take part in the operations of war directed against their own country, even if they were in the belligerent's service before the commencement of the war;
      16. Pillaging a town or place, even when taken by assault;
      17. Employing poison or poisoned weapons;
      18. Employing asphyxiating, poisonous or other gases, and all analogous liquids, materials or devices;
      19. Employing bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core or is pierced with incisions;
      20. Employing weapons, projectiles and material and methods of warfare which are of a nature to cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering or which are inherently indiscriminate in violation of the international law of armed conflict, provided that such weapons, projectiles and material and methods of warfare are the subject of a comprehensive prohibition and are included in an annex to this Statute, by an amendment in accordance with the relevant provisions set forth in articles 121 and 123;
      21. Committing outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment;
      22. Committing rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, as defined in article 7, paragraph 2 (f), enforced sterilization, or any other form of sexual violence also constituting a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions;
      23. Utilizing the presence of a civilian or other protected person to render certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations;
      24. Intentionally directing attacks against buildings, material, medical units and transport, and personnel using the distinctive emblems of the Geneva Conventions in conformity with international law;
      25. Intentionally using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare by depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival, including wilfully impeding relief supplies as provided for under the Geneva Conventions;
      26. Conscripting or enlisting children under the age of fifteen years into the national armed forces or using them to participate actively in hostilities.

On the one hand, it's the Sun and even Custis has been hit or miss on his specialty (transfers).

On the other hand, timing makes sense and I want to believe. But still very much sceptical.

Hopefully Custis is correct like he is once every 3 seasons.

Would doubt he got the scoop on this one but it's a fairly random update to make up and it's positive so I'm gonna choose to believe it.

It is The Sun so taking it with a huge pinch of salt...

Yeh - it’s random. Considering how quiet it’s been. I feel he’s got a scoop. Also wasn’t he on uniteds books a few years back? Probably has links in the club?

You're thinking of Neil Ashton.

Custis has been a journo covering United for the Sun for ages. The last big scoop he got was Lukaku, though when we balked at Morata's price, Chelsea ended with him and both clubs were disappointed.

As we all know we’ve been here before, many false dawns , hopefully when I wake up tomorrow this will be reported by other trusted sources , Im at the point I just want clarity one way or another

Nahh mate, not The Sun again. :lol: The last "exclusive" on this takeover I remember seeing from that lot was proclaiming Ratcliffe the preferred bidder with an announcement coming in a few days. That was in May.

If I was making news up, I'd probably go with November, too. Close enough that it sounds like an actual forecast, whilst also being far enough away that everyone will have forgotten about the story when November comes and goes without anything happening.

Gotta love The S*n.

Conveniently ahead of the new season starting and the first home game with a paper that will run with any old rubbish for views.

It's either no sale or Qatar to be fair.
However Neil Custis is backing up some of the recent rumours in the media about as that the delay was because of Qatar, not the Glazers having not made up their mind yet, if Custis is right and it’s a huge IF, the messages four weeks ago that Qatar had agreed the deal with the Glazers May have been true and they may have had to pass directors tests and UEFA/FIFA/EpL fit and proper Directors tests plus pay the money into multiple accounts to settle the debt first.

I think if I remember correctly the original loan used to leverage the club was not enough so two additional brokers were brought in to lend the rest of the money. There was also the 92 Foundation company from Qatar being registered in the Cayman Island. It would also take about 3 months to buy out the minority share holders from mid August to mid November is 3 months. Sounds more than plausible which is why I don’t believe it ?

Neil Custis is backing up some recent rumours in the media sounds about right. "I'm only reporting on what's been reported". The man has stole a living.

Yeah definitely one of the better Sun journos but as you say he can be very hit and miss

I can’t stand Custis but he’s very, very well connected to a lot of people at United.

Would love him to have got the scoop,however feels like the usual suspects will pour cold water all over it in their articles over next couple of days

There’s no way Custis has information on this before anyone else. He’s hated at United and has never been in the loop as one of the chosen journos that receives briefs so why would he be singled out for this?

Oddly well connected at one point, but I feel like its been awhile since he got anything big regarding us right, let alone the biggest story possible, which would be this one. So I'm massively skeptical.

Looks as though the Glazers have got six billion they wanted after all, as United are sold off to an autocratic, hard-right dictatorship. Qatar can move into schmoozling the council, but only after the notoriously difficult FA Fit and Proper Test.

FA: Okay, Jassim, can you prove your funds are not state backed?

Jassim: Certainly. how about a bag of money to convince you?

FA: Sure, who needs human rights?

I can’t stand Custis but he’s very, very well connected to a lot of people at United.

The people he's connected to at United won't know anymore about the takeover than you or I.

Nobody outside of the board of directors has a clue what is going on. No players, no coaches and no back office staff. Unless Custis has been on the phone directly with the Glazers, Arnold, the CFO or the GC, then his contacts at United won't have told him anything.

Unlikely imo. Glazer’s would have to notify NYSE, I think, in that circumstance.
Agreed, plus the FA is leakier than a rusty sieve. The second any paperwork hits the FA then about 20 journalists will know about it. Same with any government approval.

I think we are possibly being kept in a no mans land, where one side is getting all the ducks in line ready to progress, but the "Final" decision is being delayed in order to facilitate this.

There will be lots of "Hypothetical" talk about dates, payment schedules, negotiations on when liabilities fall due etc.

The Glazers will want to discuss all of this from a situation where they still have another "interested party" rather than have them withdraw from the process.

I fully expect we will hear something when the Glazers have finished taking out the energy saving lightbulbs and re-inserting the old filament lightbulbs they carefully stored in an old cardboard box behind the Trophy cabinet.

Qatar have jumped ahead :lol:

Talk about needing clicks. Been saying the same stuff for months.
