We haven't been in this position for 18 years, there will be some big breaking news about potential buyers soon I reckon

Don't know what's what but Qatar can't buy Utd unless they sell PSG. Are there any news of that happening?

Every other day I see this headline with the hope of some positive news.

All good things come to those who wait..

You do realise that its not the government that is buying the club?

What reason is there that a potential Qatari buyer cant buy United?

If it's going to happen in Q1, I think we should already have strong rumours by now on the potential buyers. This is the biggest acquisition ever in football. It's impossible to be so discreet.

Is everyone really expecting this to get done first quarter 2023? Would expect more “chatter & news” surely there’d be at least one journalist who manages to gets a leak or does some investigative journalism and comes up with something.

I think the only information we have on potential timescales is a report last month from The Athletic, citing an anonymous member of staff at The Raine Group, who said that they were aiming for a sale in Q1 at a price between £6bn & £7bn. At the time of the report, the same source said that no serious talks had taken place with any parties. The Athletic were careful to point out that there is a lot of uncertainty about whether the price/timescale are realistic and that it is the job of Raine staff to be positive about prospects to amplify optimism and increase the amount of cash that bidders are willing to pay (in other words, "Q1" could be complete bluster).

Christ. Stupid take. One of the worst, most dense and poorly thought out takes in this forums history and that's saying something. Your post is impressively stupid and I am impressed.

Is it stupider than the 85% who wanted to sell Rashford in August?

Acquisitions tend to be very tight lipped. It's not like a player transfer.
I’m trying to remember previous acquisitions . The Newcastle one was all over the news. City was done pretty silently and out of the blue.
City being bought by the Thai owner, I can’t remember.
Chelsea being bought by Roman was out of the blue. So you’re right.

It will be a career defining moment for the journalist that breaks it, assuming it is a journalist, so suppose the opposite is also true for making the wrong call.

Yeah tend to think this will go more under the radar than the Newcastle one, however considering the size of this club maybe not

"Anyone who stops supporting because the club is taken over by evil murdering bastards isn't a real fan". The opposite is true
Who have Qatar murdered? Have they invaded anyone ? Are they bombing any countries ?

I’d respect you more if you just said “I don’t want Arab Muslims owning Man Utd” instead of hiding behind some false moral pedestal. Russia has invaded Ukraine, raped and killed 1000s. Yet I’ve not heard Russia referred to as “Evil murdering bastards” any and all insults are clearly targeted to Putin.

Yet Qatar, a politically neutral country. That if you bothered to research does a lot for 3rd world countries & charity gets demonised worse than any war mongering country. Why is that?

The way the owners have always operated for fifteen years it's amazing anyone thinks there'll be any leaks and that anyone believes there's anything behind Twitter rumours by accounts with less than 1500 followers

Plenty of reasons, but I'm not going to bother engaging with someone as blinkered as you. I've also done this to death in previous pages and provides links to the many and horrible crimes committed by the Qatari royal family. FYI I have no problem with Arab Muslims taking over United and it would be pretty ironic for me as an Irishman to take umbridge with that. Targeting people with that kind of vile, bitter attack when it has no basis in reality does nothing but completely destroy your already tenuous argument. So, basically, go and sling your hook.

The FCUM crowd have had a fair bit of that levelled at them for years so it isn't really a minority opinion, sadly. Agree with the bolded.

You’ve said a lot without actually saying anything.

They can own both. Red Bull owns 3 clubs, RB Leipzig (Germany), Salzburg (Austria) and New York Red Bulls (MLS)

It's more or less been said it's the PSG owners. But yeah you are right these places are flush with people who pay 6-8bn for a football team.

Yeah I end up just coming in here and skimming for tweets then leaving, have no interest in the tired same old same debates right now.

Any news at all? Likewise, sick of the whole Apple / Amazon are doing a takeover pipe dreams.

I think it’s a bit sport washing bit more of an ego play. Having Fury v Usyk isn’t going to have them run the political world, they want their country in the main stage.
Isnt it as likely to be a rich man’s play thing than a Trojan horse for world domination?

Even then why do you think rich people buy things for prestige? Because part of the power of being powerful is that everyone knows you are. No matter how you spin it, it's a net-gain for them.

Boxing fans won’t have a clue who brought them to SA though? A tiny, tiny percentage of non City fans would even know who Citys owners are. It’s just billionaires with money but upscaled.

Who in the hell is paying between 6-7 billion for the club and then a further 1 billion on the stadium/training complex and god knows how much in transfer fee's?

Even the Saudis etc aren't that daft. They'll do well to get 4 billion in my opinion.

They aren't after your interest. It's about legitimacy and access to other powerful people. It's a soft power tool.

In most cultures there are accepted and unaccepted way of showing off wealth. Like Bill Gates runs a charity to make the world better and murderous Middle East oil sheikhs buy football clubs.

Controlling a $300b sovereign wealth fund and being a big gas supplier in addition to being sovereigns does that for them already. They didnt need to own a football club to own real estate in London and they certainly don't need United to get access to the PM either, they already have that.

You're overestimating the importance of public opinion on someone who doesn't even need to stand for an election or particularly need anyone's approval. They already got the protection of the most powerful state on earth.

I think thats the reason why nothing is being leaked. No one is prepared to offer that much. I think eventually the glazers will have to accept that 3-4 billion is all they will get, as the buyer then has to clear the debt, start up the infastructure, transfers etc which will add 1-2 billion on top.

Yeah there was something about them selling a certain percertage off to a group in America.

I would say the same about your post. Vile accusations to direct at someone with no basis.
Just the fact that you labelled an entire country as “evil murdering bastards” despite that, as I mentioned, that country has not invaded any other country, is not bombing any other country or actively engaging in apartheid.

Like I said I never hear Russia referred to in such terms, or the USA, or the U.K. in those cases criticism is clearly labelled at the leader or government.

Could be a Qatari group. People always assume any ME buyer has to be state, but there are businessmen or wealthy princes that are not involved in the state there who can buy it.

Basically this, no one is coming to the Glazers with that crazy valuation in my view and you are not exactly selling a performing business. I think they missed their opportunity with the Saudis three or four years back and now they arent going to get anything resembling to the figures being touted.

I also find it hard to believe that if there was anything in the works there wouldn't be any leaks. This is arguably the biggest sporting franchise that's going to be sold in a long time you can bet your house that football journalists will be on it looking for a scoop - getting the scoop on this will be a career defining story in the era of individual youtube channels.

There is no be information because there simply isn't any to report because even if the suits are tight lipped they have assistants, messengers and other low ranked employees in the know willing to make a quick buck on the news.

I reckon it’s fair to say that if you amass “buying Manchester United” type wealth in those countries, then you’re somehow involved with the state.

It’s the same in any country. Although I get your point in that in a dictatorship they will be trying to appease as opposed to in a democracy where they try to first influence and occasionally appease.
