Club Sale | It’s done!

the tweet mentions a contract was to be signed for the sponsor this week but since then no action were taken...

does it also mean the Saudis wont be the one buying the club? i would think if they were in pole to buy then they would not bother discussing shirt sponsorship as it would be easier to buy the club then manage internally the sponsorships?

Also would it make sense to even sort the shirt sponsorship while the club is up for sale? Unless the Glazerz were trying to keep the club by saling a portion only and thus would try to find a sponsor for the shirt....

So confused
They either;

Dont think the shirt sponsorship is a good deal now Ronaldo has left

Want to buy the whole club instead

Somebody else buying the club doesn't want Saudi plastered all over their shirt.

I assume it's the latter personally.

Not sure the Glazers would have just let him walk away if it was a deal breaker, so I'll go with option number 3 as well.

I also believe this will happen. Will be a smart move.

However, some fans may want to install him as a DoF!
Same. Seems an obvious move from the Qataris. The World Cup has whetted their appetite and now they have a United hero on their payroll.

The last thing Qatari owners would want is Saudi Arabia plastered front and centre on the shirt.

Done deal, Qataris in by Monday.

Imagine if the Qataris bought the club and they had to accept a visit Saudi sponsor on the shirt. It would be the Glazer's last big mess

That’s the point I’m getting at. There are apparently Saudi negotiations before the WC and now he looks like to go there, they’ve stopped.

Maybe, but still would the Glazers have let him walk if there was any chance of it leading to that.

Logic would say it has to be about the takeover, as other than Saudi themselves, I'm not sure any new owner would want them plastered all over the shirts for the next few years.

It certainly lends credence to the Qatar theory, given the hatred between the two countries.

If Fly Saudia do a sponsor us then United will be bought out by the Saudis if they don't sponsor us it'll mean we're Qatar bound. Probably.

Are we sure we can’t get owners on the lower end of the despicable scale to buy the club?

else Saudi are set to buy us but they want to seal the deal before they add a couple of tens of millions to the sponsor to boost ETH's coffers

But that’s not really the way it would work, I reckon. Say the Saudis are negotiating with us for a sponsorship and it becomes apparent to them that getting Ronaldo was a live prospect. They’re not going to issue an ultimatum. The whole point is that in my wild-eyed theory, they’d walk away to avoid upsetting Ronaldo’s delicate sensibilities, rather than trying to strong arm us into keeping him. After all, it’s not like that’s what he wanted, either.

There's something fishy going on with Beckham and Neville and Qatar. The last 18 months, Neville has been very anti-Glazer and very pro-Qatar. If you are of the opinion things dont just happen randomly, then that's very interesting.

I also believe this will happen. Will be a smart move.

Beckham could be a public DOF, but he'd never do that role day to day. The perfect role would be to have him as a public face, with the donkey work and finances being done by others. Who wouldnt sign if you had a pep talk from a super famous, super rich mega star footballer like Beckham taking you out to his house in Miami to discuss to direction of the club and how you'd benefit from signing?

All of this could be interpreted any way you like.

Could be the Saudis are buying the club, so no point in a sponsorship. Or they've heard Qatar are buying the club and want nothing to do with it. Could be Dubai, and neither of those want anything to do with it. Or could be neither, and a partial sale by Americans is a lot more likely. I mean, if PSG can find takers for that overseas, surely Manchester United could to the same? Could be one of Glazer's buddies. Or could be none of those things and we get bought out by an Indian billionaire.

I for one am hoping for some more tangible information. Sooner rather than later, preferably.

Haha, very true.

Maybe Qatar are looking on in worry that the Saudi’s could be getting a foothold in the most popular league in the world and see this as an opportunity to stop that?

I don't know, Ronaldo is a child, but I don't think it'd be make or break for a deal like that either way, and been associated with United before Ronaldo goes and plays there almost makes it easier for him, as a top club has sold out to them for money as well, but you could be right of course.

I'd love to know the exact timeline on this, as if the Glazers were negotiating for this deal just before the WC then maybe things aren't as far along with the takeover as many hope, I mean it was only reecently that the Teamviewer news came out, so perhaps this falling apart has come as a shock to them, but I live in hope it's simply the fact that the next owner wants the final say on things like this.

If Saudi are interested in buying the club then it would be counterproductive for them to sign a sponsor now. Think about it. United are in a financial mess and in the middle of an auction. The last thing a potential buyer would want is to boost the seller's hands by signing a binding multi million deal with him.

Just happy it’s currently looking like that kind of ownership model as opposed to another U.S one.
