Club Sale | It’s done!

And how does this apply to the conversation I was having or answer my question?
Ineos are getting the gold medal because both bids are a record-breaking valuation for a sports franchise but Ineos is either higher based on the rumours.

The Qatar fans are vocal and visible but I would be very surprised if they were anything but a minority just banging on bin lids.
The hypocrisy, you can almost touch it

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but crucially, shares in the club are divided into Class A and Class B stocks. The Glazers still own all the Class B shares, which carry 10 times the voting rights of Class A ones. So even if Sir Jim buys 50% and Glazers retain 20%, the Glazers will still have the majority voting rights at the club.

This needs to be a full sale, we need Glazers out of this club once and for all, sadly they wont allow this to happen and continue to hold all the aces.

Just so everyone knows. This is wrong, completely wrong.

I'm sure others have already explained why, I'm just catching up with the thread.

Bragging rights are the whole point?
Of watching sport? I would say a pretty large part. The main point is entertainment, but part of the entertainment is banter with friends and rivals. Watching football by yourself, and then never talking about it in public with anyone seems rather pointless.

I know that it's not the case for me, bragging rights is an extremely small part of why I watch a sport.

Yes, we know this. It still doesn’t translate to Qatar not being serious, which is the point I was contesting. People can’t just expect them to pay ludicrous sums. They’ve gone through this process and made a world record bid ergo they’re serious.

It's almost certainly Sir Jim at this point, the info is coming from multiple angles.
Is it though?

The Sun posted an article suggesting it. The only other articles I have seen have all referenced the sun.

My understanding is that when the Glazers sell their shares they become class A shares, ie only hold normal voting rights.

Therefore if the Glazers even retained 6% class B shares then they would still hold control.

So all the shares will need to be converted to class A shares.

Then SJR can own 51% and the Glazers, say 17%, and the rest on the NY stock exchange (as they are now).

However SJR will still need the Glazers onboard because you need 75% to hold a quorum . A quorum is when the board can make structural changes to a club.

Therefore there will need to be some sort of continuing deal between SJR and the Glazers.

Sigh...

They are selling their voting rights. Which is why there shares command a premium compared to the current market value of the A shares.

Shaming people for wanting the club to be successful seems like a very odd hill to die on. Moreover, just because City owners cooked their books it doesn’t mean it would happen here.
I'm responding specifically to the poster comparing City's owners to INEOS. Owners who cheat are bad owners and their owners are objectively cheaters.

EDIT: If you condone cheating for the sake of winning, you deserve to be shamed.

This whole serious point is a misnomer. You either win the race (get United) or you might as well be 5th, 6th or 7th in the process. Same as the league (beyond CL qualification).

And this would apply to us if Brexit Jim buys us. We will compete, his Brexit fans will be happy with the plucky United label and City, Newcastle and whoever Qatar (as I eventually believe they will) buy will keep racking up titles.

And frankly (and this is the for anti-Qatar folk), the bullshit about sustainability can go to hell. We live one life and waiting another 20 years, so we marginally miss out on the title in the style of Arsenal this season has to be the most pathetic attitude I've ever witnessed. It's literally the same dumb argument as Brexit - we'll ruin your life but in 20 years it could be better but we cannot promise anything.

No.. it does. Because it's what these types of owners do...

Source: Every single example of State ownership.

So when you watch Real vs Barcelona, who are you rooting for or bragging to?

So why would we accept those motivations for Ratcliffe but not other bidders?

Not sure I understand what you’re saying. I think those motivations apply equally to all bidders. Vulture funds might have other goals that I didn’t list, such as obtaining control when an owner defaults on payments, but they aren’t going to be interested in dividends of 25M a year, it’s peanuts on a deal of this size.

Not saying you're a glory hunter, as I don't know you, but generally speaking, if the point is bragging rights and banter, then wouldn't everyone just support one of the top teams?

Either way, your assertion doesn't work for me. Maybe because I grew up in a time before the internet where you didn't come across opposing fans very much, but I generally don't like interacting with opposing fans. I have some good friends that are Liverpool and Chelsea supporters, but we don't really do bragging rights. Maybe some jokes in general (like just yesterday I was telling them that I refuse to ever drink a Carlsberg beer), but not really bragging and rubbing it in about wins and stuff.

Are they not to you? Isn't that the whole point?

Ability to identify with the club is a point regularly missed by the Qatar In side. All the we/us language in football is about identifying with the club. Bragging to City/Liverpool/Chelsea fans is all about saying the thing that I am part of is better than the thing you are part of.
When the club becomes a vehicle to whitewash the crimes of the Qatari state, when thousands of United fans are engaged in Twitter battles denying or minimising these crimes ala City and Newcastle fans, I cannot see those fans as being on my side. Bragging rights are very hollow then.

Once again oil money or whatever you want to call it does not mean you have to financially cook the books and cheat.

That’s a conscious choice.

Every day United fans sink a little deeper...

It's not a conscious choice at all, it's the backbone of their entire business model. Every single one of them.

City are cheats
PSG are cheats
Newcastle are cheats, they've already lied from day one about their ownership

Every. Single. One.

Stop living in denial, stop trying to convince yourselves and others that it would be different at United. Qatar don't care about United, we are nothing but a vessel for them to advertise to the world they are not backwards human rights abusing authoritarian dictators and like the Saudis and the Abu Dhabis before then, they will stop at nothing to push this falsehood.

They work on peoples naivety. You've fallen for it and are already shilling for them...

He has a five point plan
  1. Shaun Ryder, Morrissey and Ian Brown will take it in turns to walk the team out each week.
  2. All supporters attending the games will be encouraged to dress like they’ve just walked out of a Lowry painting.
  3. Playing staff names will be homogenised, everyone will now be called “‘r kid”.
  4. Club kit will be revolutionised with players now wearing a parka instead of a t-shirt like those southern pansies. It’s cold and wet up here.
  5. Senior people at the club from Ten Hag upwards will be encouraged to wear flat caps and take up an interest in pigeon husbandry.

And if he manages to buy out Joel and Avram then point 6 is is walking by the grave of Ian Curtis each week.

When it's signed we will all know pretty quickly. Until the Glazers sign anything it's all just posturing and negotiating tactics from all sides.

What is that appreciating asset is supposed to do for Ineos?
Ineos make money, no one wants cash sat in the bank though. So they're using cash/ spending power via loans to buy United with the mindset it will double in value in 10 years. Just a long term investment.

Can taste it, it's disgusting. Some United fans really do have no shame...
You are literally spreading bullshit and presenting it as fact and have the audacity to lecture others.

We are going to have to wait and see for the outcome and then what it means for the club. The ones who say they care about the club and would quite happily see it fail as long as we are not owned by Qatar, do not care about the club, it is themselves they care about and being on their moral highhorse. So let's just stop beating about the bush.

Not sure which part of me being surprised if the pro Qatar fans are a majority is being presented as fact.

That is right, so what's the 'sigh' in recongition for?

However the other concern is the quorum and the need to balance and satisfy the Glazers needs to maintain that quorum whilst SJR lacks the voting rights to maintain a quorum.

At least give me some sort of metric to indicate?

Twitter is overwhelmingly pro-Qatar. I think it’s safe to assume most social media is.

Twitter and reality are almost always opposites. Social media in general amplifies the loudest, most obnoxious voices and almost never represents the majority.

So I mean, if that's your basis for Qatar being the majority...

Personally I don't know, but I'd always lean towards anything I read on twitter is probably written by an idiot.

Pretty sure the majority opinion is that either Qatar or INEOS would be fine actually. It's those of us who have a strong opinion who are the minority more than anything.
