We'd definitely have gone bust if we hadn't sacked the kitchen staff, aye.I do.

Did Ashworth want another type of manager?Great interview.
The bit about Ashworth’s sacking was pretty telling. Reading between the lines, it sounded like he didn’t get along with Berrada.
And rightly so. The free lunches and ex players dinners is minuscule in terms of what we pay Casemiro. United have always treated their people like family and that is no longer the case.
re the bolded, I was pleased to hear no mention, unless I missed it, of Brailsford whatsoever. This is where I'm at as well. It's a credit that Radcliffe is publicly facing the music but I don't come out of this thinking Ratcliffe comes across well. My perception of him hasn't really changed.
I still think it's concerning how he is so involved in the footballing decisions, I expect him to rightfully have his opinion but I get the feeling that he's heavily influential in footballing matters which I don't see as a good thing.
You know Ratcliffe being co-owners with the Glazers is probably contractually bound to not criticize them publicly?
He did get a few mentions, no in detail but there were at least a couple of references to "Dave".re the bolded, I was pleased to hear no mention, unless I missed it, of Brailsford whatsoever.

People need to see this longer version of the interview, Neville asks nearly all the tough questions.
The statement about United running out of money in Nov, though a tad alarming, does explain why we are penny pinching. Sad and scary.
We will have a couple of years of this 'frugality' before we - hopefully- get on track on a the field and then on the finances bit.
Long road ahead.
He actually says the club would have "run out of cash" by November, which is true when you look at the accounts. They wouldn't have gone bankrupt but would have had to issue more debt or raise more equity.
On this, if he's doing a public interview, I don't think there is any other way to spin it. There's too much information out there on both instances. If he tried to distance himself from the decision or say they were rational decisions he would look ridiculous.Agree. Plus he has put in $300m of his own money.
I was really impressed by how Ratcliffe in both the Sky and BBC interview backed his manager. Took ownership for mistakes in keeping ETH and hiring Ashworth.
When did he call out Højlund?SJR is an absolutely disgusting individual, calling our Hojlund is bang out of order. We all know Sancho is a waste of cash, Casemiro discussion a wild one (in other industries the cops would be looking at that deal). PSG offered more cash and wages for Hojlund but because he is a lifelong United fan he came here.
No way of knowing. Ratcliffe's response definitely made it seem like there was some degree of discontent behind the scenes - whether with him, or with Berrada and Wilcox.
He didn't. Just named him as one of the players who we owe money for this summer along with Sancho and Antony. When did he call out Højlund?
Nah, the Glazers would have been gone. He is the reason they are still here.I'm clearly in the minority, but I've got a lot of time for Ratcliffe. Literally the only guy on the planet who made an acceptable offer to buy the club. Without him, this club would be seriously fecked. Far worse than the situation currently. He's put in his own money, unlike the Glazers and he's genuinely attempting to correct the mistakes of the past. Yet, he gets criticised. Of course he does.
I’m glad you’re glad.Glad you added the bolded because I was rolling my eyes reading that first part of you post given all the answers you were looking for were in the interview.
Would have been gone? How?Nah, the Glazers would have been gone. He is the reason they are still here.

He didn't call him out per se but he name checked him with players the club has spent a lot of money on. Maybe he didn't mean it that way but it came across like him talking about how wasteful United have been with buying players. When did he call out Højlund?
To say it with such certainty as well. Incredible.Would have been gone? How?
Agree. Plus he has put in $300m of his own money.

Really, I didn't hear that. Which bit did he get mentioned in?He did get a few mentions, no in detail but there were at least a couple of references to "Dave".

Definitely doesn't come across great but i think he meant we are still paying for these players every summer because they all had big price tags and we are paying in installments. So we are still "buying players" without buying them this summer. We have to pay 17m for Sancho this summer still, despite us selling him to Chelsea. We still have to pay Inter for Onana, still have to pay Ajax for Antony, and so on. All situations that they inherited. He didn't call him out per se but he name checked him with players the club has spent a lot of money on. Some like living in a fantasy land.To say it with such certainty as well. Incredible.
Think that was to clear some space on the credit card for transfersDid he not make a payment of 120 million or something towards the debt?

It was reported by the Athletic that Ashworth suggested the likes of Frank and Potter but when it came to making the argument for hiring them over Amorim, Ratcliffe found him unconvincing and Berrada made the better argument for hiring Amorim. Just doesn't seem like Ashworth was on the same page as Berrada and Wilcox. No way of knowing. Not Doris in the canteen, gaffs. From your analysis of the books, where should the cuts have been made?
I think keeping ETH was a rational decision at the time. Most fans wanted to keep him post the FA Cup final and when compared to the available options. The press finding out that United were looking for other managers was a huge mistake.
Plus, no one was complaining when Ashworth was hired.
The mistake may have been not to get Berrada in place first and let him build out the team.
