CL Semi-Finals 13/14 - April 22,23,29,30

and now people are judging Simeone based on one match

So that's Costa and Simeone in the caf's rubbish list already

I love that there are more posters in here saying "lol at all the idiots who are writing Costa off after one game, they've not watched him all season" than there are posters actually saying that.

This is true, but there is no denying he looked below average tonight. Doesn't stop him being fantastic this seaosn though.

yes he did. I didn't say he was good tonight, plus he was injured just a week or two ago

Mourinho does the same thing and people call him a genius

Mourinho mastered shithouse defensive tactics a decade ago. I won't give him credit for playing anti-football. But I'm very disappointed in Simeone tonight.

We've torn some pretty good sides apart at home this season, as long as Hazard Ivan Terry Eto and Cech are back were favourites.

Woeful game of football. Atletico were just pumping crosses into the box all night. Chelsea didn't even try to score. Dreadful game to watch.

scroll up. I saw three in three seconds.

Yeah I don't get it either. There's only been a couple who have written him off in general, whereas the vast majority have highlighted only today's game, where eh was shit. It is that scenario where some people have watched much of him, hear the hype and expect to see it when it's being televised, yet he comes up short. That's football for you.

Laughable how all the focus is on Jose, Jose, Jose and Chelsea. Atletico were pretty awful and defensive for their part too. Us more so, but then we are depleted and the away side, but lets not let common sense and tactics stop a good Mourinho bash!

I agree with this but some people have decided Simeone is a genius, because Atleti's direct style has worked so well in La Liga. Hence, no criticism will be allowed. :p Frankly, after tonight I'm even more convinced that Van Gaal is the right man for United.

Atletico were fecking atrocious. Cross, cross, cross, cross, cross, cross. Simeone showed as much tactical innovation as Moyes there. So much for being the brightest young manager in world football.

How many games against bus parking sides do people have to watch before they realise that everyone looks shit against teams who play like Chelsea did tonight or like we did versus Bayern?

Ok now you're going a bit far. Yes he was injured about 3 weeks ago, but he seemed absolutely fine coming back from injury in his last two performances, can't make an excuse considering he was good in his last two games. The opportunities he had tonight were poorly taken, not because he's struggling with his return.

That's true. At OT Bayern were making a lot of crosses though not as aimless as Atletico tonight

He is one of the best strikers in Europe but, some have been over the top when it comes to praise to him. I think someone here said he has been better than Messi or Roanldo this season which is just insane.

Simeone has built a side which can compete at the highest level. Regardless of how they do it they have won enough games to be in the position they are in. This is with a small squad and transfer budget.

Atletico are defensively the best side in world football.
Agree with that. They will miss their captain Gabi in the second leg though. He's a rock in the midfield and protects his defenders very well.

Most of that money has been spent buying hardworking, counter-attacking players ie Will.I.An and Schurrle. The rest just need to sit back and wait for the counter-attack, Jose's prime tactics when playing a team with some sort of attacking threat.

Well, they payed so much for them because they can´t negotate to save their own lives. God knows, why they payed 22 Mil. € for an one trick pony like Schürrle and while I actually rate Willian, he was nowhere near worth the 35 Mil € they payed Donetsk.

That is also not proper counter attacking football. That is building a wall around your box and hoping for a lucky punch. I can actually see an appeal in such a tactic, when it comes from a small club fighting for a draw, but a team like Chelsea, which threw 50 Mil. € direct investment on the market this season and has a 200 Mil.€ wage roll? For them it is just cowardly and disgraceful.

So with John Terry out for the second leg we're likely to see him running onto the pitch in his kit should Chelsea win.

The comparisons between him and Falcao have been pretty over the top too. Falcao has been tearing apart the Portuguese league and La Liga for 4 consecutive seasons, yet one great season from Costa and he is suddenly the better striker? There is of course differences in the players, but it's hard to see past Falcao as the better striker in my opinion.

I didn't say they were a bad side. They are pretty much a Spanish version of Chelsea. That's why the game ended up as it ended up.

Ppl need to get some perspective. Atletico don't have the luxury of having £ 25 - 30 mil players on the bench like Chelsea! Chelsea can rotate easily, whereas Koke for example was playing his 56th game of the season today, Gabi his 52nd. Of course at the season end you can then be mentally and physically exhausted. 0-0 is also hardly a bad result for them and they did create some chances after all against the most expensive bus in the world.

I am not going to argue with you at all there, because I 100% agree with you. It's not proper counter-attacking football, it's Jose football at its best.
