City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

If they are found guilty, but the punishment isn't severe - it's up to the other 19 clubs in the P.L to make sure it will be.

The absolute best part about this isn't that that we have 3 extra PL titles now but the fact that dippers on 4 PL titles have never won one with fans.

speculation about what should happen to City os all predicated on if City are found guilty of the charges. The charges are all there on paper. Really not sure what your point is here
Speculation remains speculation whatever it is predicated on

I'm wondering how adexkola will try and defend this.

Don't be scared, use the @ button next time

If City are found guilty no tears will be shed on this end, do the "crime" do the time

I think the framework in which the crime is defined is bullshit, as well as some arguments that border on "conspiracy theory" status, but that's not the point of this thread is it? :)

Do carry on

The £700m a season 'Visit Saudi' shirt sponsorship deal might be on ice for a bit

Should they make this stick, then it makes you wonder what mileage they'll be in these sort of takeovers in future, (or in fact the ones there are now) if they can't splash the cash at will.

A Saudi owned club, stuck buying £30-£40 million pound players, and sitting mid table isn't great for their image I would imagine.

Any punishment has to have an impact beyond this season, otherwise it's an open invitation to everyone to feel free to cheat for a decade.

This has impacted so many clubs negatively, and the only way the premier league could come out of this positively is if the punishment includes stripping them from previous titles, or relegation to league one or two, which would be sever enough. All the other alternatives would have no to little impact, for example:
  • A transfer ban would hardly impact them negatively
  • A points deduction would merely mean no CL season next season. They'll happily take it if it means a clean slate
  • A fine isn't gonna happen considering the charges, but they'd happily take it too
In my humble opinion relegation is a real possibility here.

And that is wrong, how? Are you telling me you are certain Chelsea is clean of any wrongdoing? Leicester, Wolverhampton? Are you 100% certain United wouldn't stack up a eye-watering amount of cases if put under the microscope for 4 years? How would you know? With the amount of corruption in this world I wouldn't be confident at all. But City are already deemed to have wrongdoings worthy of stripping away accolades and points for. Again, how would we know?

And I know it doesn't really matter. We are the one investigated, and there are obviously reasons for that, and we will be the ones to face the consequenses. But it is Worth considering since a tally of a 100 breaches seems massive, but given how we know nothing about how clubs are run, and no other PL clubs have been given the same treatment, we have no reference point. We have no idea how many cases could be built against any given club if they took a look at their dealings for the last 13 years. Therefore, we have no idea if 100 breaches is an abnormal amount, or if a similiar number would be uncovered in a large chunk of organisations.

As I said, when these are uncovered in relations to us, they have to be dealt with and it is irrelevant whether there is just as much corruption out there or not. But it was more an interesting thought than a "this is unfair, what about the others?" kind of comment
Aren’t we still a PLC? I have no idea about City but we’re talking jail time for United if they did this shit

What happens to the domestic cups they have won if they were to be stripped of their league titles?

You can't just hand them to the runner up as the reality is they shouldn't have even been in the finals at all. So how do you deal with that? Just null and void the entire thing for each season?

Yeah, this is why they won’t take titles. It’s far too messy and leaves open far too many variables… what about relegated teams City beat too? etc etc…

Other fans will just have to be satisfied with endlessly rinsing City fans about how illegitimate and ill gotten they all are.

I think a heavy points deduction & transfer ban at the beginning of a season is the most reasonable thing to hope for. I’d love them to be kicked out of the PL, but even that would require someone else to lose out on promotion in the Championship, so you’d have to relegate them from the entire league system really, which I don’t think they’ll push for, as it’s basically decimating the club.

FFP is a joke, nothing fair about it. Football establishment is pissed of because they block Liverpool who are now relegation fodder nearly?

I'm all for a squad level salary cap. City are just Jack Walker's Blackburn taken to the extreme.

What’s FFP got to do with Liverpool? They wish FFP held them back

Lets be honest, there are people at City who should be facing jail time too.

Not that I think United or anyone else are breaking any rules, but I really don't think being a PLC would stop corruption.

You're only saying that cause you know you'll be joining us in the Conference in the not too distant future.

Strip them of the titles in question, send them down to Championship with -30 points and a 2 year transfer ban. That sounds about right to me

Btw - if City are stripped of the title last season, I want a new interview with Jack Grealish and Roy Keane :)

Timing, I have to wonder if the timing of this announcement was done on purpose. We are expected to start receiving our bids for ownership this week. Was this timed right before Dubai attempts to buy us, to deter them from buying us?

No. The effect should be the same though.

At the end of the day, what has to be grinding is how unnecessary it all was. I think if you look at Newcastle, just putting proper money in by the rules (we assume), putting a competent, solid management structure in place, etc. took them from the dumpster fire that was the Mike Ashley era to bloody fourth. What City has done if not only cheated other teams and cost them untold losses of revenue, they've betrayed, lied to, and cheated their own fans , too - by not doing it properly. None of the other 19 teams in the Premier League will have any sympathy for them. Not to mention teams that were relegated. City raided Arsenal of talent, Liverpool too, and cost the league it's integrity over 10 years. We can bang on about Chelsea, but at least Chelsea served their transfer ban. These City c*nuts have been getting away with it for 10 years now. 10 years. Let that sink in. That's like 2.5 times longer than Trump's administration these bastards have been cheating and getting away with it. And we knew they were both crooked all along. No penalty is too harsh, no consequence too severe, this must set a precedent.

I'd ban them for every year they weren't compliant from the Premier League - so at least 10 years in the wilderness of not being able to be promoted to the Premier League. And if you cheat and don't comply for any of the future years, that's another year, c*nts. Doesn't matter if they earn promotion from League 1 to the Championship in 4 years, they aren't allowed in the PL for another 6. Let them rot in the Championship without any chance of promotion. 10 years of asterisks.

They can't compete with City. People in football are passed off at City due to that.

Arsenal, Burnley, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, Man Utd, Newcastle, Spurs and Wolves, the clubs wrote to the CAS about City...

Liverpool did compete with City and this unstoppable City are currently 6 points off fifth?
They were correct to complain, look at what was uncovered!

I'm loving this.

This will have a knock-on effect on Manchester City's season I think. There will be a negativity surrounding the club, Pep will be asked about it every week. Just wonderful.

Maybe that’s why they all want united it’s not inconceivable for us with success to get a revenue yearly of €750m per season with our huge worldwide Fan base, build 100-110,000 all seater and stadium and your revenue just increased £35m per year plus short snd merchandising sales , last report I saw from Delores had Spurs making nearly as much as us on match day revenue.

Where's all the posters coming to tell us how well run City are? Go on. I know you're reading this thread.

To be fair they were being well run.

It's really just about all that extra oil that was being used to grease the wheels.

I don't believe in what has been said so far. These are all assumptions by the journalists based on the number of breaches.

Points reduction, titles taken, relegation all make sense but one punishment wouldn't be enough.

If you ask me. The punishment should be all of these things and much more for a prolonged period.

Even the punishment you suggest (which I agree is more realistic, much as i’d love them to be stripped of titles and relegated) would cripple them assuming the PL continues to scrutinise their finances. I doubt a self-financing City (meaning a reversion to mid-table interspersed with relegation battles) is of much interest to Abu Dhabi.

The ME takeover for us was only paletable because longterm you can't see any other way of us getting near City (and probably Newcastle) if they continue to go unchecked, but, and it's still a big but, they are actually going to stop this sort of ownership from doing a they please, then a Saudi type ownership for us isn't needed at all, much as we might be suddenly more appealing to them.

Hopefully I don’t end up like Jeremy Clarkson for saying this but I want their bus parades redone with rival fans lining the streets with buckets of shit.

Stripped of titles is what should happen, really, but it's fantasy. These dickheads will do nothing. This entire procedure will prove what a scum league the PL really is.

Teams like us, and yes, even the scouse cnuts were robbed off hard fought premiership titles due to a cheating scum club.

Actually, if they let them get away without any SEVERE punishment the PL might be the scummiest league in the world no exaggeration..

How did Serie A manage promotion and relegation when Juventus were kicked down?

Isn't it an independent panel deciding on Manchester City's punishment? I'm not sure how much consideration they will put into other clubs when deciding on the appropriate punishment - which is definitely relegation.

The biggest football league in the world now has to act appropriately if these findings are verified by this panel.

Is there a difference between expulsion and relegation. Does expulsion mean no football for some period?

Expulsion means being booted out of the league and starting from scratch (basically they get to be FCUM). Relegation means a year of Championship football. That’s what it should mean anyway. People might be misusing the word. Or maybe I am…

I am more amused with the fact that despite us being piss poor since last decade…

If they are stripped of titles, we will get 3 PL titles while Liverpool will also only get 3 PL titles despite having once in 35 years successful era

That's what is confusing me as well. Expulsion sounds more like completely thrown out of the football system instead of being demoted to the championship.

Seriously, I hope the upcoming punishment will be exemplary no matter what. Something has to give out of this mess.

If it was for me, City should be expelled out of the Football League and then forced to start all over again in non-League football. After that, they would have to earn their way back for at least half of a decade if necessary. They deserve to be punished in a much harsher way than Juventus after the Calciopoli and Rangers after going into administration.

Revoking titles should be in order as well, just like Juventus got their 2004-05 Scudetto and their claim for thr 2005-06 title taken away after the scandal broke out.

City paid single digit millions for their share of Girona 44% iirc.
Pere Guardiola could well afford 44.3% on his own if thats the case, this is the man who was agent to Luis Suarez, and is now one of the top dogs at Sports Entertainment Group (agents) and represents both Pep and Ten Hag. Not to mention guys like RVP etc... were all signed on with them. A few million to own a club is not a huge deal for him. He's a wealthy, wealthy individual, regardless of his connections to City.
Yet Manchester City purchased the club.

Yeah, OK.

Stripping them of titles is meaningless. They'd gladly take that as their punishment as it won't cost them anything and it doesn't damage their footballing project going forward.

Points deductions going forward makes more sense to me. Deduct points for as many years as they committed the infractions. Something like 21 points this season, 15 points for the next four seasons and 9 for the five seasons after that. Good luck qualifying for the CL with those deductions and the inevitable talent exodus.
