So a league isn't competitive unless newly promoted teams can win the league?
When has that happened in any league, anywhere in the last 50-60 years?
Didn't Forest get promoted, win the league right away and the won then European cup twice? Still the only team with more European cups than league titles.
I don't get why you're crying about all this, no league has ever been like you want. No league will ever be competitive for all teams, so what would you do to make newly promoted/lower table teams competitive as you say you want them to be?
The closest to a competitive league in top flight football was probably Serie A in the 80s: there were 7 different champions in 10 years from 1982 to 1991.
Competition and egalitarianism is more common in US sports, as the leagues view parity as a quality worth pursuing. It's possible to implement even with an open pyramid if you do certain things.
Europe is different. Teams for the most part are content, respect their betters, and know their place. Not unlike the monarchies of yore*

No European Elite League you mean. Am I not allowed too cry about an opinion if I like? I think it’s a valid opinion, no one seems too like my take on it but most would agree when they look at the facts, that it’s true that the same few teams win their respective leagues and domestic cups year in year out.
There are other countries out of EU with highly competitive Leagues where it’s a level playing field for all.
You ask me what I’d do to make newly promoted teams competitive, I don’t know with our current system, wage caps are too complex, transfer limits are too complex. It’s a system overhaul is required which sadly will never happen
Unless European football breaks itself as it almost is, money is flying around like confetti, but 95% of that confetti is landing in one place and one place only and it’s not into the Clubs, hence why it’s become a billionaires playground, they are the only people now that can afford to be in the industry as owners

A competitive league is one where any team can beat any other team. There are few easy games. And you get different teams regularly winning and challenging for the title/Top 4/ Europe.
They did. They might well be the only team to have won the title right after promotion in England.

Your definition of a competitive league is just wildly off from what is genuinely a competitive league is, you say it’s one where different teams regularly win it, well that’s EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Premeira Liga, Eredivisie certainly all ruled out it’s the same familiar badges winning them year in year out
I just don’t see how you can say that’s competitive, look at the list of champions for all those leagues, decades and decades of the same tiny time few teams winning all the time
Battling for European places You say makes a league competitive? Yeh ok but places aren’t trophies, it’s not winning as such is it, it’s like an a distraction too keep the “absolute no chancers” happy with something too play for, because they ain’t going too be winning league titles, that’s for the elite, I think it’s a pretty poor distraction.
West Ham might say differently I guess having won the Europa Conference as a result, but that’s the best they can ever hope for realistically, and that’s wrong, why shouldn’t they be able too win leagues etc? Money
I guess what I’ve learned from all this, is that actually, perhaps I do really admire and appreciate the level playing fields American sports provides in their varying sporting leagues, not just in the MLS!
Competetive leagues don't mean different winners all the time, it means that a number of teams are in with shout of winning it even if they ultimately don't, it also means that there are regular 'upset' results
The American model can only work within a closed league, no promotion or relegation is anathema to football and ultimately winning is essentially a cup competition because of how the leagues work
I definitely read it as sarcastic, so that's my bad I guess. We have different expectations about football journalists and pundits, it seems, I would never expect them to consult experts (or ask them relevant questions if they happened to).

Well no but every team finishes in a place but only one teams gets to win a trophy. Every team needs something to play for, for as long as possible to make the league interesting and you know er... ...competitive.
