I'd rather have Benteke and Berahino come in than Kane.

Sadly I can see us paying more than you to get Benteke now we have sterling cash. :(

Quality player, who seems underrated by a few as he plays for Villa. Would be able to get him on good wages and more than proven in PL.

A good fit all round and would develop nicely at our club, far better value then Benzema or Higuain would cost overall.

I agree, but I'm convinced Higuian will cost a mere 25m.

Think he'd be a good signing for either us or Liverpool tbh. Has all the tools needed to be an absolute beast of a striker for the next ten or so seasons, just needs for them all to come together, along with upping his workrate. Think 32m is a reasonable price too for someone with his best years ahead of him...

Only now? Don't think we were ever interested, he's had Liverpool written all over him for a long time now.

Your link with him today gave me a glimmer of hope. Dashed now though. He could prove me wrong but there's a sense of déjà vu about this

Any links with us have always seemed tenuous, I have felt he's a banker of a Liverpool signing for a while now.

He's a second class striker at best, that every big club in England has looked at and decided to go against it baring maybe Liverpool who will eventually end up with him. Physically big men will always score goals in a poor team because everything ruins through them, but him in a team which likes to play football and he will struggle

We are replacing two absolute Rolls Royce of forwards in Van Persie and Falcao, we need the right player to pick up from where they left off from.

Did you watch United last season at all?

Yes last season both of them where under whelming as they are hitting the twilight of their careers, but take nothing away from them Falcao before his injury was an absolute beast of a striker who has given nightmares to best defenders. You've got to be something special to put four past John Terry and Peter Chech in a cup final. And we all know what Van Persie has done and can still do so no point talking about. Top Top players

Would rather have stuck with Falcao on loan for another season

He scored more than both of them combined last season. Poor way to put an argument across.

Think the more likely target is Lukaku if I'm honest. Would be cheaper and he's been spouting off a lot recently

No way he'd be cheaper, Everton spent 28m on him. Overpaying for him will probably actually work out well for them, because they have as good a striker as Everton can probably get on a long contract, and no one will offer them a profit on that to force them to sell.

I think he's extremely good myself.

Same. 44 goals in 82 apps for (mostly) a Paul Lambert led Villa side with 59% of his goals coming from out the box. Decent burst of pace on him, difficult to defend against during set pieces...

I'd be very happy if we signed him, to be honest.

His all round game isn't good enough, I worry that LvG will lumber us with one of these big lump #9's before heading off when his contract ends.

?

They have both been absolute crap.

Buying Benteke would be a waste of money and I hope it's not true. Where did you get this rumour from as I googled it and it's only the express who said it

I didn't post any rumours, just came on the thread to say we shouldn't really be interested in a player like him.

What are you talking about  ? What did Falcao and RVP even do last season ?

He'd be good wherever he ends up but I hope we go for someone with more potential.

Best thing about signing Benteke would be that there is no need to play Fellaini as a form of target man. I'm not particularly anti-Fellaini, but long term I'd much rather us have a balanced side with a target man at 9 and an actually attacking mid at 10, rather than the withdrawn-target man role that Fellaini provides.

In fact I suspect if we signed Benteke we would offload Fellaini. Better to sell him while his stock is reasonably high, if he spent a season barely playing we'd get feck all for him next summer.

Top players in their primes, yes, but you seem to be rating these players on their performances 2 seasons ago, you're making it seem like the new striker is coming to replace 2012/13 RVP or Atletico Madrid's Falcao.

Van Gaal wants a team that are good on the ball and play it around on the deck. Signing someone who is only really good enough when it comes to heading a ball would be a bad move.

If we go for a striker then Bentekes name shouldn't even be on the list imo. We need a mobile, technically sound, workhorse who can fit into a possession team. Not a big lump.

He's much better than your giving him credit for, when in form he isn't JUST a big lump. I agree we should be aiming higher though.

Van Gaal's profile of a striker does seem to favour Benteke though. Hold up play, goals and ability to make simple passes to the wingers and attacking midfielders.

You're acting as if Benteke is bloody Zigic or something. Benteke is mobile, technically sound, and a workhorse.

Benteke not only rhymes with Heskey but the similarities are uncanny............but in saying all of that I still think he is good enough to do a job for us even if only for 1 season...When a player like Benteke has the likes of Ronney and Depay putting things on a plate for them then they can look like Drogba level all of a sudden

find it a bit strange. When we were linked to Kane look how many people were against it. Unproven! And now you get people saying they want him over Benteke who is proven in the premiership. Sir Alex used to ask our defenders about strikers and though I want Kane too (an English thing), Benteke has caused us problems in the past
