Chris Morris' Four Lions

It's fairly quiet and said by Waj off camera just after Omar gives his frist talk to the group after getting back from Pakistan....Just before he makes Barry punch himself in the face

Yeah I just noticed that after sw33t described it a few posts back. Very slowly said off camera.

"Well which is he Barry is he a martyr or a fecking jalfrezi?"

Just saw this. Thought it was really good, very funny in places. My girlfriend tells me she didn't really like it, but I wonder if some of the satire was lost on her because she's not British. I can't imagine it would be viewed as very funny outside of this country, after all.

Meh I was a bit underwhelmed by it as well, and I'm British and a big fan of satirical comedy.

Was just pissing myself at the "Psycho Baloo and piss-jet bagheera" line.

Also, the bit where they are discussing how they'd kill each other and Waj says "I'd take this (picks up a knife) and I'd feckin' run you over with a tractor".

yeah, I liked that too.

And when Barry said to Hassan. 'oh you can feck her but not kill her? What's wrong with you?'

finally got round to seeing this - great stuff

for anyone who has the DVD - as well as the usual deleted scenes ec, there are whole load of hidden extras as well - just wait for the seagull to fly in on the puffin party thing

Thinking about this, it's without a doubt one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Far too many quotables in there, or pretty much this entire thread.

Makes you want to strap on a bomb vest and blow people up...just for shits and giggles like.

Great film.

I've just watched it again, and I have to agree with Hectic & Spoony -- it's up there with perennial classics like Guy Gadbois & Emile Flournoy in my opinion. And heed Rood's advice and wait for the seagull.

"Let's bomb Boots, they sell condoms that make me wanna bang white girls."
I could not stop laughing at that one

 Thankfully I have a bad memory and have forgotten most of the brilliant one liners in this film. Must rent it out again.

You're kidding surely. This from one of the Inception naysayers. I know Four Lions is a totally from a totally different genre but jeez, I mentally switched off around the hour mark. Underwhelmed.

No, it's a great film. I watched it again, tonight.

As for Inception - chuckle.

You're mental. The film is a modern classic.

Maybe I'm just not able to appreciate the humor as much as I'm not English but I didn't find it overly funny the 2 times I watched it. Good, but not great.

There are bits where it drages to be honest, and the whole "bummers" bit with Julia Davis isn't very funny and pretty low brown & obvious...But that's if I'm being deliberately critical. It is a modern classic.

Can anyone suggest me some Chris Morris stuff I should give a go?

Most comedy films are winding down into schmaltzy·nothingness in the final act but this comedy is funny til the end, going out with a bang. I love Chris Morris, love most things he has done, with the exception of Nathan Barley which I hated. I hope he is working on a few new things.

Edit. Start at his most famous series - Brass eye, If you don't like the first episode, stop watching. If you liked Four Lions and like v dark humour you will probably really like Brass eye, which you can get on 4od.

Most of what the man touches turns into gold... on youtube you can find his semi-ad libbed chats with Peter Cook (Why Bother?), On the Hour (the faux radio news show) and its television equivalent The Day Today... Brass Eye being the first thing you should watch is true for me too... Absolutely fantastic stuff... and for those who aren't scared of psychosis, Jam... Jam's just............... *cowers*

I love Jam/Blue Jam although it's very hit and miss. For every piece of genius...

...there's always something which leaves me feeling a bit uneasy:

I also love his Wayne Carr interviews, but I can only find a couple of those on youtube.

Suicide with an Escape clause was an instant favourite when I saw it in 2004... It's brilliant on so many levels, like the point about the reserved nature of Brits... "nobody was raising a finger... it didn't seem appropriate really... he seemed locked into a very private act"

Utter genius.
