None of those 3 goals were particularly good finishes if that makes sense.
Or maybe they are, as they all count..
Thank for pointing that out, Buzz Killington

That’s quite literally called shifting the goal posts. It would obviously be more significant if he was let go at an older age. But yes then let’s get back on topic.Sorry got the ages wrong, the source I read said he was released from their youth and I saw he made his debut for Copenhagen at 17 so assumed it was 16 but it makes it even more significant if he was that young, anyway this is the Obi Martin thread so back on topic I think it will be interesting to see if he is named in the squad for tomorrow
Leave him as far away from the current first team mess.
But give him a big chance during preseason and see how well he takes the instructions onboard.
It further reinforces what a rare monster Rooney was at that age. Will we ever have another goalscorer like him? sad face emojiMost 17-year olds would.

Mental to me that someone on here doesn’t rate him cause his mate told him not to
Makes it even better. Some young players like to score the perfect goal over scoring scrappy goals. But at the end of the day, a goal is a goal and that’s what counts for strikers.None of those 3 goals were particularly good finishes if that makes sense.

Thought he was with the u21sHe needs to be playing above that level.
Started and played the 90 for the u21's in a 2-0 win against Spurs, a week ago, apparently. Got an assist.Thought he was with the u21s

Other than his physical attributes, he just had that fighters mentality. It's very rare to see that nowadays imo.Rooney physically dominated men on the pitch at 14 - (according to Kevin Campbell who played with him in a reserve-game when Rooney was that age) - doubt we will see someone like that again
I mean, read the thread - many have explained why you don’t just throw kids into the first team. We do breed them for the that eventually, but the leap from u-18 to u-21 is big, and from u-21 to the first team it’s huge.We need to ease this lad into the first-team set-up and soon.
We are shy of genuine options and in a precarious financial situation. This is where reserve players can be useful.
Why are we breeding them if not to get into the first-team and succeed?
Let's try.
Everything about him was so rare at that age. Strength, fitness, finesse and hunger. Im afraid there will never be another rooney. We will see another ronaldo or messi yet, but not at that dominance and certainly not at that age. FreakOther than his physical attributes, he just had that fighters mentality. I think that is just hyperbole that he's come out with. I'm pretty sure he might have been skillful enough to run rings around them, but no chance he's "physically dominating" grown men at that age.Rooney physically dominated men on the pitch at 14 - (according to Kevin Campbell who played with him in a reserve-game when Rooney was that age) - doubt we will see someone like that again

Apologies for the casual post and not having time to read the entire thread. I'll stick to lurking for the most part if nothing is particularly enlightening in what I'm saying.Has anyone said he's raw yet?
Not having a go at you just makes me chuckle as every second post talks about how raw he is. Don't think it has been discussed as much on any other youth thread before!Apologies for the casual post and not having time to read the entire thread. Would love to pluck a Cantona figure eh out of thin air and stick em in this team. Look how transformative that was for class of 92.
But back to thread at hand, to me it is entirely apparent not yet for this kid. I want him to do well. I want United to do well. We all do. But we need patience. Talking about it only takes us so far.
Let me be the first, he is in fact rawHas anyone said he's raw yet?
Isn't his name just Chido Obi? I heard Martin is his middle name
Yeah, he dropped Martin apparently.
Isn't his name just Chido Obi? I heard Martin is his middle name
He recently changed his twitter handle to Chidozie Obi-Martin
As far as I know his mother is Danish and the Martin surname comes from her family. Anyway it’s not his middle name.
That's probably because most youth threads are just discussing 17 years old within the context of the U18s and U21s, and so no need to discuss the 'raw' aspect too frequently as that's only to be expected at that age and is what they should be working on in future seasons as a teenager at those levels. Not having a go at you just makes me chuckle as every second post talks about how raw he is. Don't think it has been discussed as much on any other youth thread before!
Compared to what media is guessing, he might be introduced a bit later. But of course I would be happy to be wrong and see him earlier. If he's banging them in at training and manhandling Maguire and DeLigt he'll get a chance beifre the end of the season, no doubt about it. We need to find a spark from somwhere and the INEOS approach currently seems to be to stock the youth team and focus on that so I assume we will see a few debuts before the end of the season.

This is similar to John Obi Mikel whose middle name was Mikel (Michael actually) and surname was Obi but for some reason in his playing career in Europe was known more by his middle name rather than his surname. Good thing Chido corrected it early on before it stuck.Fair enough, I was wrong.
